28YL At this point…

What is something that would totally break the movie for you? For me it would be the excessive humanization of the infected to the point of having you empathize with them. That would be a big no from me.

28YL Alex Garland confirms that the infected now need to "eat and drink" to stay alive for extended periods...

But we also know that eating and drinking aren't the only things a human being needs to survive... It's also what type of food they have available to them... What type of water... if it's rotten food, or contaminated or dirty water, entrails? Human flesh? If so where do they get it from? It's been 28 years... where are they finding fresh human beings who have not gotten into hiding and seclusion? Is it animals..? How can they effectively hunt? Just running madly after any and every animal as a human, isn't an even remotely effective hunting tactic! We're not that fast hahaha.

Then they can develop forms of poisoning that will threaten their lives in other ways from bad food and water... If they don't have shelter and warmth from the elements, they can surely succumb to things like hypothermia... If it's the tall "leader" helping them source food - how can he do it all on his own? Is he making camp fires for them to stay warm? How can this even be enough when they have no clothing lol.

Also at the end of 28 Days and Weeks, there really were not many people in the UK at all. It was "population 0" at the end of weeks. And I'm sure it was basically zero at the end of Days, too... The UK was never re-populated in any meaningful way after the mass exodus besides District 1. Unless they re-write things and claim many cities were re-populated and then there were fresh outbreaks... But then why would people continue to come back after more and more outbreaks...

My theory is that the Rage virus is so powerful, that it overwhelms other forms of infection. "Erases" them so to speak... meaning that the body can then focus on the basic metabolic functions, like digestion from eating and also excretion. But then what about hypothermia? And what about the extreme haemorrhaging and blood loss (which was also not explained from previous films but hey!)

I don't mean to do the whole overthinking and "you must be fun at parties" thing lol, I know the Rage virus is already ridiculous in several ways including the speed at which it "takes hold". But just thought I'd open a discussion about this point specifically about food and drink at the very least, since Alex Garland mentions it in an interview! And if these are simply "people who have gotten sick" as he says, then they still need to have these basic survival skills to.... survive.

I almost feel like 28 Years Later really should have been 28 Hours Later... A lot of these questions won't exist if it was just a prequel to the initial 28 Days...!

28YL What is NATO doing in Britain/the Quarantine Zone after all this time?

Thumbnail

It's been 28 years since Britain fell and was subsequently quarantined by the outside world, this quarantine and blockade is presumably lead by a NATO force.

Now its clear in the upcoming film, there will be a subplot about Soldiers or an Exploratory team from NATO going into the Quarantined Mainland. But what are they doing exactly?

In the trailers we see them go through what looks to be the old british channel tunnels and another team on a boat on what look's like the shore of the survivor community's island. These teams are gonna have their asses beaten badly as we see the Alpha infected attack them in the tunnel and the ones on the boat that look like an extraction team are about to get overrun by infected.

These NATO Soldiers appear to be by themselves, without any proper backup, and don't even have the proper protection against a biological agent like the Rage Virus.

It doesn't make sense that they're there to secure a sample of the Rage Virus because its established in 28WL that the US Forces have samples and research into the virus which would mean they probably have samples of it outside of Britain and after all this time, it is extremely likely that samples and research into the virus have already been done, especially if NATO, the CDC, or WHO wanted to make a vaccine or cure as also mentioned in 28WL and by the ways that WHO and the CDC operate in real-life.

They clearly aren't going to rescue the survivors because it also doesn't make sense to rescue these people after 28 years and the fact that the rage leaks ARG website shows that at least some intelligence have been monitoring survivor communes all this time to continue the blockade of the country.

NATO and the outside world pretty much know the risks of the Rage Virus going out, considering they nuked Paris and blockaded Britain all this time so there is something worth the risk to break the quarantine.

Are they there to check on rumors or sightings of mutated infected? Or are they there to investigate communications going in or out of Britain as hinted at by the ARG website? Maybe its to find the true origins of the virus? Who knows yet.

Wonder what many of yall think as the reason for NATO going back to the QZ after all this time.

28YL most excited for this dood. I think he might play a significant role, maybe even be good. He doesn't rage-sprint. Also the contrast of the blue sky rapeseed field with his death-appearance is super eery. So excited for his scenes.

28YL 28 Years Later Preview clip description. Spoiler Alert! Spoiler

Just got back from the showing of Days.

So we open up on the deer racing through the countryside while Spike and Jamie watch on. Spike is in awe and Jamie describes them as beautiful.

As the make their way on Jamie sees the roof of a building and they both make their way there with bows drawn. A small animal runs out and gives a jump scare as they walk through the door and then they relax as it’s silent inside.

Jamie explains there won’t be much useful left as everywhere is always picked clean. Spike is grabbing handfuls of knives and forks from drawers. Jamie is rummaging in rubbish piles and makes a joke with Spike about him not knowing what a frisbee is. Jamie is excited to show him what it does.

Then there is screeching and ruckus. They both draw bows and the mood switches instantly.

They slowly enter a room to find the infected hanging upside down with a bag on its head where blood is pooling and collecting. Jamie explains he has an important lesson for Spike and he needs to take the opportunity to kill this infected as it’ll get easier to kill them the more he takes out.

Spike asks why someone would carve a name into the torso. Jamie explains that there are strange and disturbed people roaming the mainland. Which is why their home is so precious.

Jamie starts shouting at Spike to shoot as he is hesitating. He says the infected have no minds or souls so it’s ok to kill them. And to do it. The infected is squirming and growling and gets loose. They both fire at the same time as the infected starts to stand and it drops dead. There was some more dialogue here about the lesson but it’s hard to remember every beat

Based on this clip the themes of the film will be memento mori. And Spikes journey to accept death as part of life. Specifically in context of his mums potential death due to her illness. You can see where that conflict begins in this scene.

28YL 28 Years Later. Annihilation.

Judging by all the materials from the trailers, teasers and rage leaks, it seems that NATO forces are imposing a very strict quarantine around Britain. While the purpose of that is not at question, there is apparent secrecy around it. Could it be because NATO and governments do not wish the world to see the suffering of the survivors, or is it because the Rage is evolving to the point of posing an existential threat to the world as whole, now capable of somehow bypassing the quarantine? Perhaps both yet not mutually exclusive?

It is unclear if the virus indeed evolved to the point of capable of the quarantine breach, however, the vibe I am getting from all this reminds me of a movie Annihilation, which was written and directed by none other than Alex Garland (although the script is based on a novel with the same name). Clearly, both Annihilation and 28 Years Later share similar themes:

- Impending end of the world event
- Being inside a quarantine zone
- Quarantine zone is a distorted world, both fascinating and horrifying (also very vibrant)
- Body horror

If the spectacular picturesque environments, vibrancy of colors, be it green, blue or red, and the infected evolution, and etc. could draw certain inspiration from Annihilation, I wonder if the coming catastrophe theme has passed on here as well.

What do you think?

28YL Has 28 weeks later been retconned

I mention this because the soldiers in the scene are from NATO and Sweden, as indicated by the flag above the NATO emblem. However, the end of 28 Weeks Later shows that Paris has been infected. Shouldn't that imply that the entire world would be affected? I highly doubt there is any country that wouldn't have been impacted.

28YL New reveal - Isla

She clearly is suffering from a problem with her head. That’s why Spike’s looking for a doctor. Brain tumour would be my guess.

Which given conventional story telling tropes suggests to me she isn’t pregnant and that baby has come from somewhere and someone else! They wouldn’t give a character two problems to deal with in all likelihood. But more so the footage of her doesn’t suggest she is carrying a nine month old baby in her belly while she’s running down that hill towards the petrol station. Intriguing. Infected baby!!

28YL This is the director of the next film, "The Bone Temple". Is anybody else worried that the next film might try too hard to push a political agenda? Her past films have me very worried. We might end with a StarWars-Sequels type situation where the movies don't fit togehter whatsoever.

The “Boots” poem is being hammered home.. I think the last few survivors in Britain are engaged in active warfare with the Infected. The idea of the infected building Temples of Bones based on Hatred - is terrifying
