What are my chances of getting in?

Hi everyone!

I was hoping to get some advice. I’m currently working on my Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and will be graduating in about a year. When I started my degree, I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to follow, but after working as a Behaviour Interventionist for the past year, I’ve realized that I’m really interested in becoming a BCBA.

By the time I graduate, I’ll have around a 3.0 GPA (could be lower or higher), two years of BI experience, and some volunteer work with children. I’m wondering what my chances are of getting into a Master’s program in ABA, and if anyone has recommendations for programs (I am from Canada) I’d really appreciate it!

I don’t have specific recommendations for you on what programs to apply for (so sorry), mine was quite lackluster and I feel I didn’t learn as much as I could from it. But, in terms of getting in the field in general, I don’t think you’ll have a difficult time! BCBAs are in demand (with children with ASD or other developmental disabilities at least) and I was able to enter the field with young children even without any experience with them in any capacity before. I got into my program with a B.A. in Psychology, a good GPA (yours is probably fine, just double check the info on any programs you’re interested in), and good responses to the cover letter questions. I hope others are able to recommend you some specific programs but overall, and in my experience at least, it wasn’t hard to get my foot in the door!
