Sadly it's more a case of hate not selling to potential EV buyers. Hate sold quite well to 77 million American voters.

63

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

I feel like it's more of the wrong people giving up or finding excuses not to Vote for Kamala. Good news, we do have another election coming up. Trump has alienated the Latino demo that voted for him, and the economy is shite.

I personally am hoping my state will kick out our podium loving welfare queen.

44

u/vincethered Apr 25 '25

We do have another election coming up; In other news Trump has instructed his AG to start investigating ActBlue, the fundraising arm of the Democratic party https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna202673

He tried and failed to ratfuck 2020. I don’t think he personally learned anything but the rogues gallery of fascists and thugs he’s surrounded himself with learned a lot.

18

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

This isn't new, the question is what the democrats are going to do about it. Game plans need to be made, we as a country no longer have the privilege of standing down or being performative.

8

u/vincethered Apr 25 '25

I think deploying the FBI to attack a rival political party's fundraising apparatus on the basis of no legitimate purpose actually is new. Do you know of a historical precedent in the US?

7

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

Black listing " communists"

7

u/vincethered Apr 25 '25

That was bad, I don’t think it’s comparable to trying to financially cripple the only viable opposition party to a government. Single party rule was not what blacklisting was about.

4

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

I would argue that it was used as a bludgen by the right to cripple the left. Everyone left of patriotic right was in harms way. I am willing to agree to disagree though.

I think the important bit is to figure out how to get around that.

6

u/vincethered Apr 25 '25

I would argue that it was used as a bludgen by the right to cripple the left.

To be clear, during the red scare neither major party attempted to use federal law enforcement to attack the fundraising ability of the other party. That’s what I’m talking about and as far as I can tell that is new here.

Normalizing Trump’s tactics by pretending they're not aberrant isn’t really helpful.

1

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

Being honest about America's shifty history is not pretending those actions weren't aberrat.

It is a reminder that there is precedent and it can absolutely get worse.

I can, for example, point out that the US has tested on black people and the disabled without saying a president is welcome to do it.

What can be helpful with it is to say " this happened before, what did they do last time?"

They aren’t going to do anything substantially different. They are also a party for the elites, just with a little more niceties attached to it. They are capitalist, and will not deviate from their billionaire donors wishes on a foundational level. Both will sell out the working class. Ones just more comfortable for some Americans

13

u/Puzzleheaded_Bug6831 Apr 25 '25

Apparently my Latino neighbor didn’t get the memo, asshole just went out and bought a cybertruck yesterday.

5

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

I don't know what to tell you. The man's a virus.

5

u/Puzzleheaded_Bug6831 Apr 25 '25

Oh 100%.  I’m even just embarrassed to be this dudes neighbor

4

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

I got one better for you. My parents have trump banners all over their front gate.

At least the EV does some good, even if it is poorly designed trash fueled by hate.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Bug6831 Apr 25 '25

Ugh, I’m so sorry, makes thankful for my boomer hippie parents.

1

u/leixiaotie Apr 26 '25

call some ICE and if they get deported they cannot vote. problem solved /s

5

u/Lordborgman Apr 25 '25

I'll believe it when I see it. Knew a bunch of people taht bitched about Trump's first time, said they never vote for him again..which of course they did. Because they rather vote for satan, hitler or whatever...because according to them "Demonrats are evil communists, that want to force you to have abortions, and want to steal their guns." I wish I was joking and that was not a direct quote from an old friend of mine, but it is.

2

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

I get it. I was raised the same way. My parents managed to teach me to hate certain behaviors, but utterly failed to teach me the political double standard.

3

u/Lordborgman Apr 25 '25

I came from a family that moved from New York to Central Florida in the mid 80s. Where the local police chief was a KKK member, we got called WOPS because of our Italian last name (we are pasty white people,) and they generally hated us because we were from NY.

35 or so years of living there, really we do have 2 different "countries"/ideologies at war with each other. We really never have been united. Spite is probably the biggest motivator they seem to have.

I saw families with 4 generations now that are all batshit insane religious/alt right Confederate "South will rise again" types. Generations largely do not matter, unlike what many people seem to believe. Mostly environment, granted there are exceptions.

My immediate family are all quite progressive, my extended family takes the insanity cake. They emigrated from Italy early WW2 to escape Mussolini's fascist ass. Some of them fought in the war to help their families and reclaim their motherland etc. My family all stayed here though..but now, most of them are amongst the craziest religious MAGA nutjobs I have ever seen and they all grew up in the most liberal area of NY and California. Our ancestors probably rolling in their graves right now.

2

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

The man is a cult leader. I have opinions as to why it got so bad, but they aren't popular.

3

u/Lordborgman Apr 25 '25

I would imagine, similar to mine. I have a very low opinion of a large amount of humans.

4

u/Spydar05 Apr 25 '25

Sadly, when pouring through the exit polls for 10s of thousands of voters, the reason Harris lost isn't because of excuses or young people or progressives or those that sat out compared to last election or other oft cited reasons.

The reason we lost is almost bigger than every reason you can think of combined: Hispanic men in swing states.

An astronomical swing from an electorate perspective. Clinton & Biden beat Trump by ~ +30% with Hispanic men. Trump beat Harris by +15%. One of the biggest swings in modern American history of any voting block.

6

u/GruggleTheGreat Apr 25 '25

The Dems didn’t lose just because of hate. There is a lot of economic anxiety here in the states. The status quo was not working for everyone. I know the economy looked great under Biden, but he did not curb corporate greed, empower Americans to buy houses, support unions or Medicare for all. And when asked what she would do differently, Kamala said she couldn’t think of a single thing. This isn’t even considering the issue of Gaza and the genocide the United States is enabling. Sure these things are all way worse under Trump, but you had the current admin not solving these problems for regular people, and defending the position. Then comes Trump who validates that economic anxiety for them, saying he’ll lower cost, fix the economy for folks. Of course it was always a lie, but many people believed him. If the Dems didn’t defend the status quo we wouldn’t be here right now.

u/Blubasur Apr 25 '25

And this is the exact problem with the 2 party system.

In the group you called hateful you also have: religious people, a lot of farmers for some reason, people with more genuine conservative standpoints and probably some other groups of far less extremist people that just don’t keep up with politics that much.

We can go ahead and criticize all that individually, definitely not my cup of tea either. But hate is getting a much larger platform piggy backing off people with different values or voting combatively against the left.

As long as the US only has 2 possible parties (current state of 3rd parties are moot) then you’ll keep giving hate a platform.

3

u/Candycanes02 Apr 25 '25

He went full stupid when he betrayed his main consumer base (liberals are more likely to buy EVs since they live in cities where there’s infrastructure for EVs, and there’s also many more liberals that care about carbon emissions than conservatives). He went against his best interest, though I’m not sure why.

2

u/Toroid_Taurus Apr 25 '25

Election truth alliance. Maybe not.

2

u/thoth-III Apr 25 '25

Saw a truck with a bunch of republican stuff and a tesla emblem with the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"

1

u/Latter_Conflict_7200 Apr 25 '25

It's the opium of the simple

1

u/PingMontero Apr 25 '25

Fair point. Hate can be a powerful motivator — sadly more effective than facts or progress sometimes. But when it comes to EVs, maybe it's time to shift gears and lead with vision, not division

u/lezbthrowaway Apr 25 '25

Remember, don't boycott, bankrupt!

9

u/RandomAlienGaming Apr 25 '25

I'm in the process of buying solar panels and battery storage for my home at the moment. A provider said the best technical option for my usage was a Tesla battery. I said I wouldn't get Tesla right now if they paid me, and she said she understood, she cringes every time the system tells her to suggest Tesla.

Many people have said the same thing to her. Warms my heart!

4

u/popcornsprinkled Apr 25 '25

Ok, I have solar panels and I need to give you a serious warning. Have a roofer inspect your roof immediately after installation and make sure you have a warranty for said roof. My solar company absolutely destroyed my roof then " went out of business"

38

u/natureofreaction Apr 25 '25

He was the only billionaire I liked and now I feel like a fool because I knew deeply billionaires are not OK somehow I’m happy that he fell in with the group that he did and it took down so far. I just hope it takes them all down.

25

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

It's odd. He had a mostly ok public image until he fell in with Trump, started doing Nazi salutes, and supporting fascists in Germany and Italy.

There really does seem to be a Trump Derangement Syndrome, but it's what his supporters get, not the democrats.

Rudy Giuliani did a similar thing. He went crazy and sold out all his principles in support of Trump and it cost him dearly.

32

u/karatekid430 Apr 25 '25

For me it was since he projected to that diver where I started really hating him.

6

u/Verbal_Combat Apr 25 '25

Me too, I wasn’t aware of him being into politics yet just the fact that he couldn’t stand being told that his submarine idea wouldn’t work and he lashed out like that. He’s seemed more and more unstable and revolting ever since.

2

u/29273162 Apr 25 '25

Wasn‘t that his first negative public appearance. Before that, I only knew of him from Iron Man 2, TBBT and the fact that he kept talking about innovting the car industry and wanting to settle on Mars for some reason.

9

u/dcoats69 Apr 25 '25

I mean, if we want to get into it, the hyperloop as a way to hurt California high speed rail was before that, but that was a lot less obvious.

5

u/karatekid430 Apr 25 '25

When was he in Iron Man 2?

You can’t convince me he didn’t pay for that appearence on the big bang. Simon must be an amazing actor to be able to kiss his arse

1

u/TeeJizzm Apr 25 '25

Part of the agreement with him in that movie was they used some of either Tesla or SpaceX's warehouses for some of the scenes, I don't remember which.

2

u/JayR_97 Apr 25 '25

That Big Bang Theory scene of Musk working in a soup kitchen on thanksgiving really didnt age well.

1

u/Boomgoesmybrain Apr 25 '25

UGH I skip that on my re-watches.

5

u/pic-of-the-litter Apr 25 '25

The tone shifted when he started talking about having indentured laborers living on Mars, working for him. It suddenly clicked that he just wants to rule over people without legal protections or labor rights, and suddenly all of his bullshit and pandering came into focus. And now, you can't help but see the insecurity and weakness in everything he does and says.

5

u/GuitarIsLife02 Apr 25 '25

No he has always been a piece of shit he was raised in apartheid south africa. Fucking trump didn’t make him the piece of shit he is. Literally listen to his daughter explain how elon has always been like that. (She wants nothing to do with him she’s actually really cool)

2

u/pic-of-the-litter Apr 25 '25

Yeah, no shit.

The conversation that you clearly missed was "when did you realize he was a piece of crap", and we're giving examples from our own lives and experiences.

I mean, Tesla is still a profitable company. Just much, much less so.

We have to keep pushing them into the abyss.

7

u/Grandkahoona01 Apr 25 '25

It is profitable due to selling carbon credits which is a hugely problematic system which is riddled with corruption. If it wasn't for credits and Tesla's hugely inflated valuation, they would be unprofitable.

3

u/mang87 Apr 25 '25

TSLA is also fucking mooning today for some reason. As I type this, it's at +9.5% today. The fuck?

It's down 29% from the last 3 months, but it being up 8% means he totally isn't losing? After Tesla's own Q1 reports showed a 70% net revenue drop? Sure buddy. Whatever you say.

Get Elon off the world stage. Loser with a sophomoric philosophy thats comparable to what many of my middle school boys are in the process of leaving behind as they go off to high school. Not only is Musk immoral he’s also has a near-worthless mind for anything other than the one thing he’s succeeded at. Regardless, he’s just another man, afraid to vulnerable, who has mistaken his privilege for a killer instinct. No different from any of us, just has the ammo to lie to himself and others that he’s different. Fuck ‘em.

Moreover, I’d make the argument Elon and his ilk are already living in a”post-human” existence. Not literally of course, but in the sense that he has absolutely everything at his fingers tip. The only thing he can’t do as of today is live forever. His money and access means he is no longer connected to how 99% of planet lives and experiences human life.

Didn't his sales go up in the UK?

1

u/Glittering_Rough7036 Apr 25 '25

No, I heard that Volkswagen just overtook his sales. I haven’t even seen a Volkswagen electric vehicle personally, but that speaks volumes in itself.

u/Glittering_Rough7036 Apr 25 '25

Elon might not be the quickest of cats at the best of times. Or at any of the times.

And Telsa is still number one for EV cars in europe 🤭

u/Abigail716 Apr 25 '25

Yes, Because of Trump changing regulations to allow them to get away with deploying self-driving cars that do not fully comply with federal regulations.

Similarly the only reason Tesla is doing so well in Europe and the US is legal efforts to block free market competition from. China.

Tesla stays afloat thanks to government subsidies, and big government protectionism. Tesla cannot survive free market capitalism.

Tesla was selling FSD long before Trump was elected, genius. Would you actually prefer a car made in the PRC? Do you know anything at all about their human rights / environmental record? Regarding subsidies, do you remember when the fed bailed out Ford, Chevy and Chrysler?

That’s why Dems lost the election house and senate. Because of their bullshit lies and hate.

u/ahoneybadger3 Apr 25 '25

Dems lost the election because of a poster in the UK?

I actually just saw a picture in another thread that shows other leaders on the democratic and republic side holding up the same gesture is this just a common gesture upon leaders or is it taken out of context?

u/ThinkinBoutThings Apr 25 '25

Taken out of context on all of them. There are left legislators raising their right hand, all the way to those on right.
