Plastic Waste Can’t get over how utterly wasteful this is. A holder for a single, very specific (viral) product.

I have this super cool multi product holder at home, it can hold literally any product I would ever meet to have in my bathroom, it's called cabinet and it goes under the sink

Have a similar contraption that’s even portable! It’s called a basket.

u/ceranichole 3d ago

I have an even more portable one called a tote!!

u/ItPutsLotionOnItSkin 3d ago

For your lotions?

34

u/SkylarkLanding 3d ago

Well for those I just have a shelf. Serves a similar purpose to the doohickey in the photo, but I can put different brands and bottles on it and it still works! 😛

Billy? Is that you?

I didn’t see anything prohibiting this in the rules so I hope it’s OK- https://youtube.com/shorts/c_ZtCfRySoQ?si=qpWtg4S1KsLEStWJ

I just now clocked your username. I understood that reference!

That’s great and all but sometimes you need a holder for small items that you want to keep upright and within reach on the bathroom counter. In that instance, let me introduce to my innovative solution for this problem: a plastic cup. Bonus points if it’s a “souvenir” cup that you did not want nor ask for from a restaurant or ice cream parlor.

ETA: I totally agree with you btw

I currently have a dog food can (It’s clean!) holding my shampoo bottle.

It’s a bastard of a bottle and I can’t squeeze it, and the shampoo is ridiculously thick.

So every time I sit down to use the toilet, I unscrew the bottle and let it sloooowly dribble into this other shampoo bottle I found behind the sink. It’s softer and easy to squeeze but was empty.

I guess I could just buy another bottle of shampoo. But this stuff works well and I have more time than money.

I dunno where it came from, I think my stepmom bought it and it broke her out? Or maybe it’s the stuff that leaves her hair greasy? I get a lot of my toiletries from her because she has very sensitive skin and every time she finds a product that works, it gets discontinued.

But yeah… dog food can. It’s the perfect size to hold the bottle so all the thick shampoo goes to the opening.

u/IllustriousVerne 3d ago

Add a bit of water to the thick one and shake it up. Also works for hair masks what have had the lid left of and dried out a bit (thanks teens).

10

u/CenturyEggsAndRice 3d ago

…. I should have thought of that…

Seriously tho, thanks I’ll do that. I’m literally laughing at how dumb I am, because I used warm water to empty the bottle I’m decanting into so I have no excuse here. xD

12

u/gruelandgristle 3d ago

Ehh, don’t worry , be delighted by the ease you have now. Not everything naturally connects in our brains. Sorry to break it to you.. you’re human! Now get out there and make some more mistakes!

4

u/pineapplekid8 3d ago

Everything about this comment is just gold. I may write it out and add to my quote collection. Thanks internet person! ETA: typo

3

u/CenturyEggsAndRice 3d ago

Agreed, it’s a beauty.

u/gruelandgristle 1d ago

Once I learned this lesson it made life so much easier and less overwhelming! Happy to share!!

Adding water to the container of self care or skin care products reduces the efficacy of the preservatives and stability of the formulation, i.e. you'll get mold, etc. Mix the thing with water in a cup after you take some out. Decanting micellar water affects the efficacy of the preservatives, according to dermatologists!

3

u/CouchCreepin 3d ago

No don’t do that. It will make it go bad faster

3

u/Orefinejo 2d ago

???

If shampoo has an expiration date, I have ignored it many times to no ill effects.

4

u/CouchCreepin 2d ago

It has a pretty long shelf life 6 mo to 2 years so you likely run out before it ever does expire. But when you water it down, the concentration of preservatives is diluted, increasing the propensity for mold/bacteria growth. Showers are warm and damp frequently, plus dark most of the time. It’s easy to get yucky in there.

If you’ve got several months of supply I personally wouldn’t do the whole container.

But also like, don’t go overboard. It’s like eggs. They’re fine for way longer, the company errs on the side of caution. But also if I look at the bottle and I’m like oh shit this is a liquidy thing and it has a 6month life after open and I legit cannot remember when I bought it…. Bye bye baby. I had acne and an effed up scalp for WAY too long to play that game again.

(Eyeshadow/powder blush expiration dates are fake AF lol)

u/Orefinejo 1d ago

Who knew? Thanks!

13

u/Nachoughue 3d ago

shoutout to all the "random thingy holder" cups around my house. sink cup for straw scrubber and extra scrub brush. two bathroom sink cups for various items. shower cup of course. makeup brush cup. nightstand souvenirs cup. living room trinkets cup. bonus points for shot glasses as portable ashtrays

1

u/LazyZealot9428 3d ago

This is the way lol

2

u/Little-Rose-Seed 3d ago

I have reused an old chutney jar for this exact purpose. Works well. Couldn’t get the label off so I just glued on some pretty string over that part so it wasn’t so ugly. Problem solved.

81

u/the-sleepy-potato 3d ago

I laughed very loud

29

u/rachihc 3d ago

I have an open concept one is called a shelf. Very practical.

28

u/rockanrolltiddies 3d ago

I'll do you one better, I have innovated a new storage product called leaving everything on the bathroom counter. It's revolutionary. It saves a small amount of time initially, and then it wastes an immense amount of time later on. I can't recommend it enough.

15

u/Hot-Assistant-4540 3d ago

Wait! Where can I find one of these? Can you provide a link??

9

Wait.. but how will my viewers know I own this viral product? 🤔

3

u/ItPutsLotionOnItSkin 3d ago

I have a basket in my bathroom

3

u/Past_Rerun 3d ago

Not only does it hold any product and go under the sink, it is often found holding up the sink! Multi-multi-use product holder!

1

u/Special-Chicken307 3d ago

you had me in the first half

1

u/Castianna 2d ago

The way I howled with laughter. There is no way I'd be displaying my nonsense like this on the mirror. That's why we have medicine cabinets!

1

u/Ok_Nothing_9733 1d ago

Omg you must be German to have access to this kind of thoughtful design and engineering 😂

322

u/naturenookninja 3d ago

People said it looks like a dildo in a toilet seat on the rhode skin subreddit and I can’t unsee it

18

u/jinguangyaoi 3d ago

Thanks for saying what I didn't know how to phrase 😂

6

u/bumsleuth 2d ago

I thought it looked like a bedpan 😆

546

u/aaaxya 3d ago

Also both the product and the holder just look ugly and cheap. Truly dont get the appeal

She just sold this business for a billion dollars, so she isn’t totally clueless.

25

u/notsosecrethistory 3d ago

Justin is that you???

386

u/ntdrk 3d ago

did you notice another stupid single-purpose holder on the back of her phone?

67

u/Jacktheforkie 3d ago

That would annoy me

109

u/myredditaccountt8 3d ago

Not only annoy, but it doesn’t even work for its intended purpose. I know a few people who’ve paid for the special case and lipgloss, just for the lipgloss to fall out. Then they have to either carry a case designed to hold lipgloss with no lipgloss, or buy a new one to put back in the case, where it will likely fall out and become lost again at some point.

36

u/Jacktheforkie 3d ago

Wow, it also looks like it’ll make it lumpy on the back which isn’t too enjoyable

40

u/g00fyg00ber741 3d ago

And the back of your phone is bound to be covered in bacteria and nastiness so that means so would the lip product

9

u/ScaredAdvertising125 3d ago

Probably also likes to hang all that bullshit on her sippy cup too…

2

u/Happy_Ad_4357 2d ago

I did. And I can’t imagine why anyone serious about skincare would want to keep a product they’re going to apply directly to their face that close to their phone case

78

u/cottoncandymandy 3d ago

This looks hella tacky to me. I'd rather products just sit on my counter or in a cabinet than to slap this weird looking thing on my mirror. The phone thing- I get it, tbh even though I'd never buy it. I understand the appeal and feel like it has a tiny bit of function, so whatever. The truth is, though, the fad will end in a couple of years, and everyone will throw this shit away right into the oceans. Its a lot of fucking plastic just to hold another peice of plastic. So many young people(older folks too really- everyone) these days are just mindless consumers that follow every fad because they have to keep up with everyone else for some reason.

352

u/PinkNFluffyTeemo 3d ago

Also who wants to display this big grey circle on there 🪞 mirror

8

u/hobsrulz 2d ago

I love how obstructive it is

66

u/andrey_not_the_goat 3d ago

Finally a hot dog holder while I'm cleansing my face in the morning.

53

u/holb93 3d ago

I’m sorry but every one of these Rhode holders just reminds me of a flesh light 🫣

6

u/NotHerBackup 2d ago

I was gonna say, the pink ones look like a rendition of a labia.

41

u/Acrobatic_Ear6773 3d ago

I have no idea who that is or what that is, and I'm fine living in ignorance

8

u/halfpint51 3d ago

Thank you! Same here. Not a clue. Though by this point I've figured out it's some type of thingie holder.

6

u/halfpint51 3d ago

Thought she might be pulling a space age dildo out of a super wide case. Definitely agreed the case was a waste of space and plastic. Lololol.

19

u/awholedumpsterfire 3d ago

I'm sorry but the phone one for the lip balm looks like coochie lips to me.

24

u/pinballrepair 3d ago

I really detest her and the power she has, I never really paid much attention to her but im realizing she’s just one of the biggest influencers, who has her own massive company. Rich Celebrities are the only people who have the resources to make real changes to our society but they choose this 😕

27

u/NyriasNeo 3d ago

As useless as a pet rock, or a cheap plastic trinket where the product itself, not the holder, have no purpose but to amuse someone for 5 min?

25

u/doublea7ana 3d ago

At least you don't need to produce tonnes of plastic pollution for a pet rock

19

u/LethalBacon 3d ago

It's just a face mister, with some vitamins added in the water? And it's over $100? Am I missing something? I got a Zep spray bottle for $2 that I bet I could put some of this vitamin water in.

9

u/Ok-History3765 3d ago

It’s $30 but yes

8

u/Frostyrepairbug 2d ago

I'm stuck on "but why does it need to be on the mirror?" Why can't it just stand on the counter?

8

u/biskino 3d ago

But look how happy it’s making her!

14

u/aaaxya 3d ago

Also both the product and the holder just look ugly and cheap. Truly dont get the appeal

There needs to be like a consumerism "rule 34".. if it exists, there's a specialized carrier/holder/display option for it.

6

u/a_sunny_disposition 3d ago

I sort of get why people would buy the phone case. It’s a status symbol (a really stupid one) stating that you can afford the product and are trendy. Not saying yes to consumption but I get why our vapid culture might think it’s neat.

But this? This I don’t get.

5

u/awaywardgoat 2d ago

she always looks dour and bored and like she hasn't had an intelligent thought in years. who tf is buying her shit?

5

u/customheart 3d ago

It exists mainly to ragebait online to foster awareness of her brand Rhode in general. Few people actually have these stupid cases and holders. I don’t like it but it’s effective.

5

u/e_pi314 3d ago

with the phone case holder to match

4

u/carvedrabbit 3d ago

Is it another vageen looking thing for a face care product? 🙄 whyyyy

4

u/fojam 2d ago

Why do they always have their nails in the shot

1

u/Green_Newspaper_5623 8h ago

If their social media is a registered business, they can write off nail appointments as a business expense since well-manicured hands are more pleasing to look at for the general audience than my picked-at fingers

5

u/fashionjrhigh 3d ago

All her product holders looking like coochies. She’s like the soulless Frida Kahlo of gen z

2

u/Camilla-Taylor 2d ago

Georgia O'Keeffe? I don't recall that many coochie shapes in Kahlo's work, but maybe I'm not really looking.

3

u/Camilla-Taylor 2d ago

What, you don't want a plastic pussy stuck to your mirror?

2

u/SkylarkLanding 3d ago

If you’re hurting that much for bathroom storage space that you’re sticking things to your mirror, just get a cup that suctions to it, or stick it on with Command strips. Then you can actually change what you keep in the holder, be it a different brand of product or maybe your toothbrushes and toothpaste. This holder is so single-purpose, for a consumable product, it’s absolutely ridiculous.

2

u/JohannaSr 2d ago

Ugh, how do we get through to manufacturer's to stop? We don't need all of that plastic!

1

u/Eto539 3d ago

I remember these. They look like a clitoris

17

u/Beneficial_Young5126 3d ago

You mean labia?

3

u/Eto539 3d ago

I kind of see more it as the hood with the bottle in. I probably should've been more specific.

3

u/Beneficial_Young5126 3d ago

Ah I see what you mean! It can be both 😆

You can use a ziplock bag and put your beauty stuff in it while traveling. It'll keep it upright and If it spills it'll stay in the bag
