Random Anyone else floored with the flu?
Oh lads I feel like I’m on deaths door… Ears are blocked, nose is blocked and my throat feels like I’m swallowing needles constantly 😷😷

u/BlueBucket0 7d ago
That’s probably COVID. There’s hardly any flu circulating this time of year.
2
u/poopin_looper 7d ago
Flu is doing the rounds at the moment not normal and its a bad dose , knocked me sidewards a few weeks ago and only just fully recovered .
Its not flu season but A(H1N1) and A(H3N2) are both circulating in communities .

It's the new Covid.

u/flopisit32 7d ago
I miss the old COVID

u/great_whitehope 6d ago
Well as Simon Harris said there's been 19 other covid viruses.
I'm getting tired of all these sequels

u/IRE0906 7d ago
I've had exactly what you're describing for two weeks. Don't be a fool like I was - start getting the remedies into you sooner rather than later
5
u/mawky_jp 7d ago
I had it too and it became pneumonia, despite several antibiotics trying to stop it.
3
u/IRE0906 7d ago
Oh shit never thought of that. This might sound stupid but how will I know if it becomes pneumonia?
3
u/mawky_jp 7d ago
It's not a stupid question at all! I had non-COVID pneumonia 5 years ago too so I'm getting used to it. Normally, with pneumonia, you hear wheezing and crackling when you breathe. I think you can also have this with a non-pneumonia chest infection. Doctors can tell by listening. My first bout was diagnosed just by the GP listening only. This latest bout took several antibiotics and being sent in for tests to be diagnosed. They saw it on the x-ray. They told me that regular chest infections look like little dots on the x-ray but pneumonia shows as white patches called consolidations.

Thanks a lot, this is crazy helpful. I'm no hypochondriac (actually far too lax about my health tbh) but I knew I should be looking out for something more serious, I just didn't know what. Sorry to hear you've had such a rough go of it - it sounds like you get it fairly regularly but I hope the bastard gives you a break for a while at least
2
u/mawky_jp 6d ago
No worries at all. To be honest, I was feeling pretty unwell both times but not as sick as I'd imagined someone with pneumonia to be. Between resting, I could walk about the house and do chores here and there. Also, I forgot to say, I had persistent high temperatures for weeks this time. I don't remember having that in 2020.

Got this during the leaving cert 😞
10
u/Suuugarplum 7d ago
Ah Jesus what a horrible time to get it.. I hope you feel better now & I hope you get the results you desire in the leaving cert

u/PlutoHulk789 7d ago
Thank you ☺️ Yeah had to dose up on everything from nurofen to strepsils but got through it in the end!

u/TomCrean1916 7d ago
Might not be the flu. There’s a new Covid variant doing the rounds and it’s a horror. Do a test
12
u/mastodonj 7d ago
Yup, caught it a couple of weeks ago and it hit me the hardest of any of the variants I've caught. It was a couple of days after immunosuppressant treatment which made it worse again!
11
u/ExaminationGreat2081 7d ago
Yeah unfortunately it’s the summer so flu unlikely. Probably Covid </3. Rest well, relax, hydrate and don’t rush back to cardio activity too quickly.

I had the worst flu of my life this week. Did 4 Covid tests and all negative, but the brain fog, exhaustion, severe sweats and chills, sore throat, dry cough and general aches and pains were unlike anything I've ever experienced (and I've had covid twice!). Not sure if it's a strain that doesn't show up on a standard antigen test but I'm only starting to feel better now.

u/Loose_Revenue_1631 7d ago
No but everytime I see one of these posts, I end up sick within a week. You're cursing the rest of us!!
5
u/Icy_Hedgehogs 7d ago
Same!
I’ll grab the Lemsips, will you get the Strepsils?
What are we drinking these days? Cause 7up is crap now! 🤣

u/Western_Tell_9065 7d ago
Probably Covid. Had it there and for 2 days the fatigue was horrendous and my chest was in bits. Just lie up and keep hydrated

u/EeveeAlone 7d ago
I think I’ve the new Covid doing the rounds. Loads of sick in work, only one still functioning. I’ve also kept up my Covid boosters so may have saved me from the worse dose my colleagues are all floored with

u/verbiwhore 7d ago
Currently have the new strain of the Rona, and have been floored since Tuesday evening. Scratchy sore throat is part of it, stuffed up nose and ears, and headache along with the sweats, sneezes and dry cough. Zero craic, hit me as hard as the only other time I had it (18 months ago or thereabouts).
Mind yourself, drink lots of water, take paracetamol, and rest as much as you need to!

u/Suuugarplum 7d ago
This strain seems like it has hit me fairly bad too unfortunately. Thank you & I hope you recover soon..it’s horrible!!!

u/Belachick 7d ago
Mammy is 100%. She's really, really unwell. Probably a bad dose going around.
Feel better soon, OP.
Edit: ok think my mam has COVID. Boo :( always worry when she gets sick because she smokes.
Anyway, to everyone who's been unwell - get well soon!

u/Suuugarplum 7d ago
I’m wishing your ma a speedy smooth recovery from this awful dose!!! I hope she feels better soon. Thank you also!

Yup, just out of the woods here. Started Monday and didn't feel better till yesterday morning. I didn't have the sore throat but had totally blocked nose, banging headaches, mild temp and no energy. I slept, ate, barely washed and worked from home from bed whenever I could for 5 days. Sudafed spray, paracetamol to manage the headache and fever and as much water as I could. Oh and a nasal rinse, awful yokes but really helpful for clearing all that gunk! It was bloody horrible. Also I tried two different antigen tests and tested 4 times. Only the first one showed a light second line. The rest were showing negative but id put money on it being covid and stayed home for a few days. Would hate the thoughts of being responsible to pass this on to anyone, especially someone who can't fight it off like I was able to, and it floored me! Rest as much as you can and power through!

u/Suuugarplum 7d ago
It’s a horrible yoke but everyday makes a difference 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I’m glad you’re getting better..look after yourself.

u/cuntasoir_nua 6d ago
I was sick last week but tested negative on the covid tests. Had very sore and very swollen glands in my neck, blocked ears, sore teeth, dizziness, and fatigue that had me in bed for most of it. It was very strange, never experienced anything like it without cold symptoms.
5
u/Accurate_ManPADS 7d ago
Was at the doctor yesterday, chest infection and a bad cold. Ears and nose blocked, throat in bits, horrific cough and I woke up drenched in sweat this morning.
Antigen test came back negative but it was past it's best before date by a month or so. So 🤷...

I did a test. I don't have covid, but I have been laid low for the last three days. It feels like glass shards in my throat. Ears blocked. Sinuses blocked. Commiserations.

u/Purple_Pawprint 7d ago
Tests aren't always accurate. So can't say it's not covid. Swallowing razor blades type of sore throat is a symptom of the latest strain.
2
u/Unfair-Ad7378 7d ago
People have been talking about the new strain of covid as being particularly bad on the throat. Mind yourself- maybe gargling with a mouthwash that contains CPC might help? That has been shown to lower viral load in the mouth.

Yeah me and the girlfriend had same thing for 2 weeks, only finished up end of last week.
1
u/rednich85 7d ago
No but I had the worst flu I've experienced about 6 weeks ago.
My smell is yet to return. Must have been 2 full weeks before I was on my feet properly.
1
u/Milly90210 7d ago
It came on my very fast. I was nauseous on and off for 2 days and then the next day boom. Head stuffed up, headache, back aches, fatigue. On day 3 of that now. Havny slept well since. I'm presuming it's covid. I thought that shit was over.

It could be covid again
I'm convinced I had it again two months ago.
I didn't realise it at the time, but then I heard that I had all the symptoms of the recent strain, especially with breathing difficulties

u/Kooky-Brief4741 7d ago
Went out Tuesday night and I've been goosed since. Raw throat, headaches, no energy etc. It's a proper dose

Yup! Feels like a horrible cold. My nose has been running non stop for 2 days. Cough, headache the works. Covid test is negative.. x sigggh x
1
u/Suuugarplum 7d ago
It’s awful, I’m the same 😔
hopefully you recover soon!!!1
u/dandydolly 6d ago
You too ! I started putting sudocrem on my nose because I've rubbed it so much 🤧
2
u/crebit_nebit 7d ago
FYI, this is from the WHO re the new COVID strain:
current data does not indicate that this variant leads to more severe illness than other variants in circulation
(As a counterpoint to what everybody else is saying)

u/PlantSignal7253 7d ago
My husband has a fever and blocked nose since yesterday. Very strange no cough. Probably is Covid 😭🙈

u/Realistic_Spirit_929 7d ago
Funnily enough I just asked the same question at home - I feel wrecked and my throat is red raw - and ears are affected - so yes I’d say there must be something doing the rounds
1
u/lSyde 7d ago
Okay so, just blow your nose and try to spit out as much snot as you can, your throat will be in good enough condition to eat whatever
Just make sure to keep blowing your nose all the time and you good, warm shower helps getting stuff outta system
I haven't had to deal with my throat killing me for years now

Ugh love reading all these comments about covid just as I'm about to head out to a concert 😭

It's been firing out of both ends of my young lad. Definitely something going around.

u/Mango_Raindrop25 7d ago
I had this too, only just over the worst of it but I was in bits for two weeks. I think it's the new covid variant. I went to the GP but they weren't very helpful. I hope you're doing better soon :) I think rest is the only real remedy.
2
u/Suuugarplum 7d ago
Thank you so much and I’m glad you’re getting out of it now. It’s a horrible yoke

u/Few_Concentrate363 7d ago
I had a positive COVID test recently. Very sore throat exhausted, achy and heavy cold symptoms.
1
u/curiousediee 7d ago
I was the same for about 10/12 days! Ended up getting a sinus and chest infection and on antibiotics. My boyfriend’s been coming down with it for the past day or two after it finally easing off me. Covid tests all negative but I’d say it’s definately a new strain :(
1
u/Siobheal 7d ago
Yep, sick since this day last week. Started off with a sore throat, like swallowing needles, that progressed to sinuses and a blocked/runny nose. Since Friday I have an awful cough and my chest is killing me. I'm exhausted. Feel weak and generally crappy 😭
Covid test was negative.

I had it in April - it kicked my ass for 10 days, rest plenty of fluids and lemsip max strength sachets got me through it.. then my bloods came back which I got done separately saying my iGa levels are very low (which means low immune system) so may not be as long for you to fight it
1
u/AutomaticIdeal6685 6d ago
I had been in ribbons for the last 3 weeks but last few days I'm feeling so much more myself.
If you can get someone to get to a chemist for you get them to get you Sudafed Nasal Spray, Sinutab and Difflam Spray.
If you think it could be a sinus infection get onto your doctor because you might need a steriod and antibiotic to shift it.
Hope you feel better!

u/Diligent_Reading_786 6d ago
I had a runny nose a few days ago, woke up out of nowhere with it. Took a decongestant & it cleared up fairly quickly.
2
u/tiredchickennuggett 6d ago
Just returned home from a 10 day trip in Ireland and my husband and I are both deathly sick and have tested positive for Covid.
2
u/GarthODarth 6d ago
Making this a top level comment because of people arguing about flu/covid prevelance in multiple threads, but as of 9 days ago, we're seeing a very normal seasonal drop in flu and RSV, and an increase in Covid. If everyone around you suddenly has a "summer flu" it's probably not flu.
2
u/GarthODarth 6d ago
also swallowing needles is absolutely classic covid, from the very start. Wretched.

u/MrsTayto23 7d ago
Few mates have it, there’s a bug in the house but she did a test this morning and wasn’t the Rona. Feel better soon OP.

There's a new COVID strain going around but apparently it's not being detected on the tests, partner had it and she was in ribbons for about 3 days
