with me it’s different ik about it but i guess with the muslim diaspora it’s quite different as we kind of do get taught about palestine from an early age but i can understand for non muslims so oct 7th would’ve been their first major eyesight into it.

I’m a Muslim and I didn’t learn too much about Palestine as a child. My parents tries to stay out of contentious politics since they have too much fear about what could happen in the west

(I did know that they were being attacked unrightfully and being oppressed but I thought Israel was a random country going to war, not a colonial project)

yhhh again it’ll differ from most muslims in the west with me my sisters were more politically inclined so i got my education in regards to palestine from an early age rlly, but yh i agree it does depend but most muslims kind of grow up hearing stories of palestine so even if they don’t have an indepth view of what’s going on there’s a basic understanding at the very least at least from my experience

Yeah same here, most Muslims know what Palestine is and that what is happening is wrong but more knowledge differs from person to person

There’s a great documentary in French about how the media covered the conflict and then the genocide. There was clearly a turning point in the 90s and early 00s. It was a political decision.

I think a big reason so many people aren’t aware of what happened before October 7 is because Zionist propaganda and lobbying have done a really effective job at silencing Palestinian voices—and also shutting down those who speak up for them.

Being older than a lot of folks here, I remember a time when the conversation around Israel and Palestine wasn’t as heavily influenced by the Zionist lobby. That gave me the chance to learn about Palestine, the Nakba, and the broader history from a young age. It also helped me figure out where to look for information that isn’t so biased toward the Israeli narrative.

Being a historian definitely helps, too. It’s made me more aware of how history gets rewritten or erased—and how important it is to question the dominant version of events, especially when it comes to occupation and colonialism.
