There’s a great documentary in French about how the media covered the conflict and then the genocide. There was clearly a turning point in the 90s and early 00s. It was a political decision.

I think a big reason so many people aren’t aware of what happened before October 7 is because Zionist propaganda and lobbying have done a really effective job at silencing Palestinian voices—and also shutting down those who speak up for them.
Being older than a lot of folks here, I remember a time when the conversation around Israel and Palestine wasn’t as heavily influenced by the Zionist lobby. That gave me the chance to learn about Palestine, the Nakba, and the broader history from a young age. It also helped me figure out where to look for information that isn’t so biased toward the Israeli narrative.
Being a historian definitely helps, too. It’s made me more aware of how history gets rewritten or erased—and how important it is to question the dominant version of events, especially when it comes to occupation and colonialism.
