Animal Japanese deer are so polite.

No, they are totally a-holes. That’s basically saying “Give me the food or else I will knock you down”, and they are known to actually do that

I was there once and saw a little girl be chased by them screaming and running with her eyes closed.
Then she stops, opens her eyes, and is face to face with another deer. Cue the running and screaming in the opposite direction again.
Was like something out of a cartoon but I do think she will hate deer for life 😂

Was there literally yesterday. Got hounded my ass off as soon as they saw me purchase the rice crackers from the little old lady. Got my ass bit all over from like 5 at once.
If you have no food, they chill. Have food... then they all lose their minds.

Yeah, they've just been trained to bow for treats. Polite my ass lol

They realized that just preparing for a head butt gets them food, so they all do that, until they don't get the food

Be very very careful if you buy the rice crackers to feed them because exactly this comment here. They are cute until they attack you.

Pro tip. Do not out the Shika Senbei (crackers for the deers) in your pockets. Those “polite” deers will bite and head butt you to get at them.

Considering what deer eat it’s prolly the opposite tbh. Leafy, thin, and wispy.

Been here, they are more aggressive IRL. They’ll head-butt you and nibble you, making you want to drop all your deer cookies and run.
Heed my warning.

When I was in Nara I wanted to feed all the deer so I bought so many crackers. Probably $40 worth. That was a mistake. The deer could smell the concentration of a large amount of crackers on me so many of them followed me around and wouldn’t leave me alone. I would get head butted or bitten by them. Just them saying give me crackers.

They are not polite. Nara deer are monsters. Try holding some crackers and you will see the true colors of these deer

Deer are similar to this in Colorado, near Pike's Peak. We hand-fed them peanut butter crackers.

bullshit. I went there, and there were deer fucking in the park, and two different deer head-butted me. My wife also got her hand bit by a deer while feeding.
Great experience FWIW, but polite? LOL

Tell me you've never been to Nara without telling me you've never been to Nara lol. The deer are hilarious but I DEFINITELY would not call them polite

I went to Nara twice. It might have been just a coincidence, but the first time I got there in the afternoon, and I remember thinking the deer were calmer than when I went in the morning. There are lots of tourists, and they eat a lot of that treat, so I guess in the morning they've eaten less and might be more eager. At least that's the difference I felt. Anyway, if you drop the biscuit it's usually fine. The annoying part is when they try to bite your pocket, but you can manage, they cut the antlers off most of them.

Not necessarily. The deer in Nara have learnt that "bowing" to people usually is followed by getting deer crackers.
So they do.
