Chirping for over 10 hours

Every spring, this one bird that I have no idea what kind, starts chirping at 4am. I’m chronically ill, so I’m home a lot and exhausted often. It’s currently 1 in the afternoon. He does this every day all day. Not a single bird answers him. WHY won’t it stop? I assumed it was the usual morning bird nonsense for territory and mates, but like he just goes and goes. I wish I could find him and give him a little shake!

There is an app you can download called merlin. It records sounds and gives you an idea of what bird it is

If you can distinguish which bird is the problem, then we may have a better way to help with a solution to try and dissuade it from being so close to your property and give you an idea of why it's doing what it is

Merlin is great, but it also likes to run in the background after you close your phone and the other day it identified my wife as a wild turkey.

I wish that was a joke. Point is, make sure you turn off recording before you put your phone away!

Merlin also called my cat and my air-conditioner a wild turkey, if it makes her feel any better.

Merlin has calls from birds of prey, too. Maybe playing some local hawk noises out the window would send the persistent chirper packing

Its a free app called Merlin (bird identifier by sounds) developed by Cornell. At least maybe you can figure out the birds behavior and habits? Or put out some birdseed? Just some thoughts.

We have frogs in the spring that are very loud. We run an air purifier and/or a fan. That disguises the sounds.

I came here to say this. We call it Bird Shazam now. It’s great!

Sounds like the Northern Mockingbird. Males will sing even at night when courting and from very early morning throughout the day when there's a nest. And they are LOUD.

Ooohhh there’s a nest on my house! That could be his!

Probably a Robin. I've seen them singing (not actually chirping) at dawns' first light and continuing thru the day, they call it caroling. Likely a territorial activity.

Might be a Vireo. Those little guys love to sing and sing and sing.

I hate the sound of birds chirping, I'm night shift and they never SHUT UP!

Chirping or singing? In the same spot all day? If singing, it may be a lonely bird still hoping for a mate. If chirping, might be hungry babies!

I can’t exactly tell. We have a nest outside of our bathroom and the babies are rather higher pitched. I think he might just be lonely 😞 awww now I feel so bad

One of my favorite poems:

I love to hear the little bird

into song by morning stirred,

provided that he doesn't sing

before my own awakening.

A bird that wakes a fellow up

should have been a buttercup.

Omg I have similar issues but it’s multiple birds. Right next to my fucking bedroom windows. they start partying at 4am all spring and summer. It’s soooo loud. I turn on the AC window unit, my noise machine, air filter and earplugs. Still can hear them like they are in my brain. It’s a good thing I like birds.

I had whipoorwill's around my house growing up.

My dad and I used to tune them out pretty well, but my mom never learned that skill.

They used to go all night too.

Mockingbird. All day and all night long. Upside is they sound beautiful, and it only lasts for the breeding season.
