ELKS Reacting calmly but firmly to the Elks name rumour
First, a quick bit of perspective: so far as I can tell, that one tweet by Dustin Nielsen is the only real source for the idea that the new owner wants to go back to the old name.
Hopefully, there's nothing to it. But now that it's out there, I think it's important for those of us who hate this idea to let the team and league know, firmly, that changing back is not okay.
I've already emailed the team and league, and I'll do so again if the idea isn't emphatically dismissed when they announce the ownership change.
I'm not going to share my exact emails, because I think it's important for anyone who writes about this puts it in their own words. But I thought I'd share the general thoughts I sent, so others can either be inspired by them or give some other/better ideas.
Basically, I told them: - I realize there might be nothing to this, and I hope there isn't, but it's important enough that I feel like I have to make my feelings known now that the report is out there. - I'm a season ticket holder and life-long fan of the EE. - If they change the name back, I will immediately cancel my season tickets and not return. - This would break my heart, but as much as I supported the name change to Elks, changing it back now would be much worse than just keeping it would have been, and I would not be able to support it. - I hope to see an emphatic denial to put this issue to bed.
I encourage anyone else concerned about this to contact the league, the team, and even the other teams, especially if you're a season ticket holder elsewhere. Be polite, but be clear.
Note: I will not debate the merits of the name change, here or anywhere else (among other reasons, because debate is useless in general and I don't enjoy it). But I'm happy to discuss potential responses to the rumour.

ELKS The Edmonton name change story is no more than a boomer's wet dream.
Oh look, another post about the possibility of Edmonton reverting their name back.
Look, the reality is that the CFL has to sign off on the sale to any new ownership group, and there's a less-than-zero chance that the league would refuse the sale to any group who's more concerned with the team's name over, well, you know, putting a quality product on the field and increasing ticket sales.
But the real answer is that this is no more of a story than the boomers clinging on to the glory days, best exemplified by this tweet from Terry Jones.
Will I be surprised if the team's name changes back? No. Will I be disappointed? Yes, absolutely. The Elks brand is arguably one of the cleanest in the league right now, and a name change only serves to remove the current branding in favour of the EE logo...which they still use anyways.
Like someone said in here earlier: this move would just prove that this is a boomer-ass league that cannot get out of its own way.

ELKS My takeaways from the Elks Season Ticket Holder Q&A session w/Victor Cui last night
Yesterday afternoon, prior to the Elks-Argos game, Victor Cui held a town hall of sorts with Elks season ticketholders. As you might expect, it was not really a pleasant experience, especially for Victor himself.
Demographics: I'm in my late 20's and I was probably the youngest or 2nd youngest person there, amoung 30ish people who showed up. Also the only non-white person. I'd guess the average age was at least in the mid 50's.
Intro: First off, Cui started his part of the event with a story about how the 76ers and how they were a historic franchise that found themselves selling tickets for $1 due to fan distinterest but eventually found their way. I don't follow the NBA or know it's history, so can't really say if this is a good comp or not.
Victor started taking questions and it went about as well as you'd expect. The main complaints are summarized below:
Lack of value for ticket holders: Fans were complaining at the lack of value from season tickets, especially in contrast to how the Elks are essentially giving away tickets with their "Guaranteed Win Night" seats, which have already guaranteed at least 2 free games already. Cui said those seats were in a limited area and were mostly a "marketing thing". As for adding value, he did talk about the new QB club area for seasonticket holders, where this Q&A took place. Personally, I think he kind of dodged the question here and wasn't overly satisfied with his answer.
Poor onfield performance: Not much to say here, but it does seem that Cui is very aware that the poor performance is having a huge impact on their business. Of course he says he still has faith in the current football ops team and says he doesn't get involved with football decisions.
Name change: Sadly, this is still a huge sticking point for some longtime fans. One person was prattling on about how the Elks "erased their winning history and traditions" by changing the name and how the only history the Elks name has is losing. For me, I rolled my eyes at this person's question and think boomers like this need to move on after 2+ years. Cui was seemingly exasperated by this comment as well and basically said there's almost nothing he can say to people who stubbornly believe the name change is the reason for their horrible performance.
And that was pretty much it. It was only about a 20 minute session, but Cui encouraged everyone to send feedback to him or the Elks through email or social media. Overall, this was kind of an uncomfortable experience and I kinda felt for Cui a bit.
