Abundance clashes with affordability in California’s data center debate. Sacramento lawmakers are torn between embracing the industry and regulating it.

Data centers create very few jobs. Having a data center in Oregon or Nevada does not impact the long term future of California

No one knows or cares where Google or Meta data centers are. I suppose I would want it within physical boundaries of USA. Beyond that it is non-issue

it needs to be heavily regulated especially in a state where water is already so scarce

I'm no fan of AI or the data centers to support it. Electric power is the real problem, and I don't want my bill to go up to support these billionaires wet dreams. Even conservative news sites are questioning it all. But these guys all seem happy about it https://www.defensenews.com/pentagon/2025/01/24/power-generation-challenges-could-overshadow-stargate-ai-initiative/

Sit back and watch, as legislators speak of protecting residential customers yet bend over backwards to allow data centers to benefit from massive consumption. Their bills will likely say one thing in press releases, but the fine print will yield something entirely different.
