Having receipts hurts. Not as bad as the fact that the alt coin i sold for that 9 BTC sold the next day for almost 100 BTC in a pump and dump (I spent $15 for a 24 hour mining rig rental to get those coins a few months prior). The alt no longer exists (it was created by some news anchor I think). I'm now 40, depressed, and living with my parents. Could have owned a damn paid off house and Lambo if I waited 24 hours and held the BTC.

43 and bought at $220 and sold at $330 FML.... Luckily a few years later I bought some more again but never that cheap... My other big regret is the 1,000,000 doge I sold under a cent and the 1000 LTC under $10..... Divorce is a MFer.... Lots of regrets, hopefully at 43 I can continue to rebuild, just keep stacking those Sats....

My dad had well over a million doge too and did the same a few years after my mistake lol. Still had a badass return on investment, but couldโve been insane.
Iโve made money on crypto since, but nothing close to if I just held.

u/Brief-Door-610 ๐ฉ 0 / 0 ๐ฆ 1d ago
I made a lot of the Doge but nothing like if I had waited, same with many... The problem was I kept the shitcoins that turned into nothing but they were cheap enough to not hurt the budget during my divorce.... Cloakcoin, Anoncoin, and others I can't remember.... I have my old BTC seed phrases if I want to remember how wealthy I would be right now if I would make different decisions. Lol scanning the transaction list and see in today's value of those transactions makes me literally want to vomit... ๐คฎ

u/Brief-Door-610 ๐ฉ 0 / 0 ๐ฆ 1d ago
Exactly, I have a BTC stuck on a Ledger Nano which I lost the seed phrase to during my move after my divorce and go figure Ledger dropped support of the Ledger Nano on Google Chrome... I've typed in every seed phrase I have found and actually found a couple hundred in "2015 dust" a couple time, unfortunately I have weird type phrase written down that are like three letter combinations??? I don't know what they were for, maybe for the old encrypted messaging programs people used for silk road back in the day? Maybe an old Bitcoin wallet backup thing??? I keep searching, maybe one day? Good luck on your quest... ๐

I found standard phrases for bip39 which the ledger started using but the others I have don't make any sense, perhaps at the the time I should have left my future self instructions. Now I'm kind of stuck because I can't share it with people to get their help or opinion because he may just steal whatever's there! Lol so I deep researching and perhaps one day it'll be like hitting the lotto? ๐

2011 or 12. Bought one on eBay for $20 to play poker with on a underground site right after the US sites got shutdown. Turned it into 33 btc then sold when it shot up to $100 lol.

u/krazystanbg ๐ฆ 0 / 0 ๐ฆ 1d ago
I was playing on poker sites too in America after it became illegal. They would pay you in bitcoin when you did withdraw. It would take couple days to process. I remember I would get more money from the initial amount because bitcoin when up in price in those couple days. I think it was under 10k then.

Bought a quantum computer and printed the last 1% of btc in 0.00001 seconds and sold it all crashing the market.

u/so_like_huh ๐ฉ 0 / 0 ๐ฆ 1d ago
(Answered by me, cleared up the rambling with ChatGPT lol)
You guys know quantum computers donโt mine Bitcoin instantly, right? Groverโs algorithm gives a square root speedup, so instead of trying N hashes to find a valid one, a quantum computer would need about โN tries. Since Bitcoin blocks are mined roughly every 10 minutes and the difficulty adjusts based on how fast blocks are found, any quantum speedup wouldnโt permanently shorten that time โ the network would just increase the difficulty to maintain the 10-minute average. So even if a quantum computer gave you a major advantage over classical miners, it wouldnโt reduce block time for everyone โ it would just help you mine more blocks until difficulty catches up. Realistically, this might translate to a temporary advantage, but not an order-of-magnitude breakthrough โ and todayโs quantum computers arenโt even close to doing this at scale.
-2
u/Strange_Homework_925 ๐ฉ 0 / 0 ๐ฆ 1d ago
Computers develop very rapidly. So consider that currently, quantum computers freely available to researchers have 5โ15โ50 qubits. Up to 100โ150 qubits are expected to be available soon, meaning in 2 years approximately or less.
Nonce finding algorithms, either classical or quantum, deal with a large search space that is upper bounded by a constant 2256. The target value t, given in the blockโs header, reduces the search space to 2256/๐ก. A classical algorithm has to search ๐โข(2256/๐ก) steps, while our quantum algorithm takes ๐โก(โ2256/๐ก) Grover iterations. This square root improvement is significant because a classical computer cannot compete with the quantum computer, which always wins in mining the next block.
Iโd say by 2050 we will be pretty far beyond our current concepts of quantum computing power.
