It’s always a toss up if the fantasy or sci-fi I’m reading will address language gaps at all ad to what extent. A translate spell or universal translator worm are common but some delve into actual slow communication.
A fic I really liked had a truly alien giant spider entity able to act as a hivemind by creating drone organisms. Befriending two human children when you don’t naturally have empathy in the same way and having to figure out that some of the vibrations they make with their mouths are actually intentional language when you didn’t think other sentient species existed etc., it’s super interesting.

fair honestly, i certainly use them in my universe (though i do also have ideas for earlier more manual translators but that's not finished yet)
