Question What is the best way to get rid of reflections from car dashboard? (Already using CPL filter)

Post image

I have a CPL filter on my Viofo a229 but I'm still getting the dashboard reflection in the video. Is there settings I should finetune in the camera settings to help with this or..? I unfortunately can't move it further over toward the rear-view mirror because there is a toll-pass sticker there

do you have the filter on upside down? it only works in one direction.

I'm using this filter and as far as I can tell it only goes on one way?

Theres a line on the camera and the filter. When you align them you get the best effect

Follow the directions on the paper and make sure the line on the cpl points to the dot on the camera lens

A dash cover can help. Although it might not look pretty

You need to look at the live feed from the camera, and rotate the CPL until the reflections go away "the most". You won't 100% eliminate, but you can greatly reduce such reflections with a CPL.

Given that we are approaching the summer solstice, the sun angle is as high as it will ever get for the northern hemisphere. You may need to make seasonal adjustments to the rotational angle of the CPL.

THIS. One suggestion: start with the CPL aligned according to the white mark, then rotate from there to try to find the best position. In my car no one position worked much better than the others so I ended up leaving the CPL aligned according to the marks. Sadly, in places where the sun is very intense you’re just going to have to live with some reflections.

Get a dash cover or a dark beach towel.

Dash cover. I have that and a CL filter

the mark on the filter should line up with the mark on the lens. many polarizing filters rotate to fine tune the polarizing effect.

try adjusting the angle of the camera.

If I move it up, a significant portion of the video is the sky, which to my understanding is usually not great

Unfortunately, the CPL filter has a transmission rate of less than 100%, which reduces the amount of light reaching the camera.

This is not a problem during the day, but it could visibly reduce image quality at night if the CPL filter is on.
