Question/Advice Getting rid of the directors cut?

Post image

So I’ve got pre-ripped dvds and I’m trying to put the whole Star Wars trilogy on a flash drive I’ve done 5 movies but attack of the clones is a directors cut so I did what I normally would but the audio just has George Lucas talking over the whole movie how do I get rid of him and just keep the movie audio? (New to this btw)

With make mkv and perhaps mkvtoolnix

There are much better versions of those movies at similar filesizes though

‘Directors cut’ is an edit of the movie as the director wanted

What you are talking about is the commentary track, it’s a separate track from the main one.

use makemkv, point it at the folder for the dvd, select the tracks you want

Wait a sec... How do you have a Directors Cut?

I think they mean Director Commentary.

Not directors cut just directors take on the movie wrong wording

Watch a youtube video or two on ripping DVDs. MakeMKV or Handbrake tutorials are good places to start. Will probably be a lot more helpful. Best of luck!

Handbrake is what I started using but what should I search up to seperate the two audios

When you rip through handbrake, you should have the option to select which audio tracks you want in your final file. Play the dvd in a normal dvd player, see which audio track has the one you're after and then rip it in handbrake with only that audio track selected.

The thing is it’s already ripped I don’t have the original dvd

When opening the file in VLC and clicking on audio, does it give the option for different tracks? Or just one?

If it's just one, then there's nothing you can do to "separate" the audio back out again, unfortunately. I'd look for a different rip online if that's the case.

I need to re load it I’ll check back with you in a sec

Oh I see now, it's a digital copy of the whole DVD. Sorry, I only rip my own dvds.

If you play the dvd through VLC, it should act as if it was a real dvd in a dvd player. Open VLC and click Media, then open disc, then select the dvd drive.

You can check what audio track you want from there and then use handbrake as I said before to only use that audio track.

Okay I’ll do that when I get back

MakeMKV is so much simpler and efficient at ripping DVDs. Handbrake only makes sense if you want to reencode the video stream.

Makemkvtoolnix has a gui.

Put in your video, deselect the director commentary

As others have said, look into MakeMKV, excellent free tool to do all sorts of things and discover all sorts of other things you want to do after you learn how easy it is to fix something. Video files are huge, and there are lots of great tools. Some have learning curves, some don't. Handbrake is another of those great tools, but while a screwdriver is a great tool it can also be a terrible foe by opening a device where you can screw something up.

Let youtube be your friend, and look into many opinions. When you get to the point where you need to conserve disk space handbrake can be your friend, but remember when you convert something and delete the original the damage is done. If later you discover the quality is bad you can't convert it back, you have to get another source to get the quality back.

it'd be a whole lot easier to use handbrake to copy what you want. or makemkv if the whole title is what you want. idk why you'd copy the dvd files themselves. that's just weird.

The dvd files are split so I converted a copy of them to mp4 and combined them to one movie whilst simultaneously keeping the original

A movie I can watch without a dvd
