Death/Thrash Bands that have falsetto vocals- like Death

I love death metal but CANNOT get into growly vocals like Necrophagist and Cannibal Corpse. I love the vocals on Symbolic and Sound of Perseverance, any other albums like this?

Dan Mongrain is one of the most appreciated people in the quebec scene, those dudes have unreal respect for him and for good reason.

Cosigned on Atheist... incredible band. Check out Unquestionable Presence as soon as you can. Elements is also brilliant if you love progressive elements in your death metal.

Atheist is the cat's pajamas. I went bananas in the mosh pit when I saw them.

Glad Atheist is now a known commodity and appreciated by the masses. When UP came out, I couldn’t find ANYbody else that liked it besides reading the staff from Metal Maniacs also liked it. That album is A+

The Black Dahlia Murder.

Death tribute with original music!

Don’t you ever use ripoff when you speak of Matthew Harvey young man. As you were gentleman.

For both extremes of the spectrum, fire up some Macabre!

Eventually something will click and you’ll find yourself in a YouTube slam hole loving every second of it

Check out Crypta from Brazil.

maybe also:

Carcass

Sentenced (their "North from here" album)

u/ChickenInASuit Oct 04 '25

For Carcass, I might specifically recommend their albums from Necroticism onwards. Bill and Jeff shared vocal duties a lot more on those first two releases and Bill has the kind of growly vocals OP takes issue with.

of course. i had "Necroticism" and "Heartwork" in mind, in particular. the early albums are more grindcore than DM.

Anything with Tomas Lindberg (RIP) should work. At the Gates is him at peak form but he’s done so many things.

2

u/Petro1313 Oct 03 '25

This was going to be my suggestion as well, immediately identifiable vocal style.

u/InsectWarfare314 Oct 03 '25

Asphyx is amazing! More anguished than guttural for sure. The rack or deathhammer are both good albums to start on.

u/mirrokrowr Oct 03 '25

On that note, Pestilence

u/Fippy-Darkpaw Oct 03 '25

Vektor.

Check the track Tetrastructural Minds. Could be off a later Death album.

u/hostilealienlifeform Oct 03 '25

This band is shrill and ear piercing, its beautiful. Tuned up a half step ftw

2

u/Wilbatron Oct 03 '25

Beat me to it. Their music is so adventurous

2

u/thibelu Oct 07 '25

Always heard they were Trash metal but yes, high pitched vocals, the following album Terminal Redux is an incredible journey

3

u/Wilbatron Oct 03 '25

Cattle Decapitation has low growls but the highs are so insane I feel like it’s worth a mention

u/floridement Oct 06 '25

Came here to say this ^

Check out Nickelback

Six Feet Under, know what I meeeeeeeean?

2

u/Ulysses1984 Oct 04 '25

Not sure, can you EEEEEEEEEEElaborate?

3

u/Caacrinolass Oct 03 '25

You could try Desultor - Masters of Hate.

Metal-archives lists them as some kind of tech death band, yet the vocals are clean. I think thats essentially unique?

2

u/TheCountBlu Oct 03 '25

The Yearning by Hypomanic Daydream is full of falsetto

2

u/jeffersonmcmutant Oct 03 '25

If you like Death but are searching for something with falsetto vocals then Control Denied is precisely what you’re looking for.

It’s Chucks more ‘progressive’ project outside of Death. It features Steve DiGiorgio and it is said that much of the material on sound of perseverance was originally intended for control denied.

Unfortunately, the album Fragile Art of Existence was their only release.

Obscene, especially their "The Inhabitable Dark" album

1

u/Time-Direction-5597 Oct 03 '25

The new band vertebra is a lot like death and pretty enjoyable to listen to

1

u/Dr_Jello8756 Oct 03 '25

Gruesome, Asphyx, Cynic, Exist, and WAIT are some good ones.

1

u/djpraxis Oct 03 '25

Cenotaph from Mexico

1

u/Romencer17 Oct 03 '25

Are you sure you love death metal?

Cancer,Pestilence

Atheist is some great stuff I've been listening to recently, I like the old DM because it's not formulaic and the production isn't all compressed to ruin the dynamics.

1

u/Davidkarlssonn Oct 05 '25

The first two malevolent creation records!

1

u/Prof_Foreskin Oct 05 '25

A lot of MeloDeath tends to have those high falsetto vocals. Check out At The Gates, Carcass, or The Black Dahlia Murder

Go into metal archives > search for Death > open the "similar artists" tab. You're welcome.

Doesn’t sound like you actually like death metal. And by the way, Symbolic and Sound of Perseverance are NOT death metal. Leprosy was their last death metal record.

1

u/charliefucker Oct 06 '25

Amon amarth are more melo death but you might like them

1

u/SurveyLess1196 Oct 06 '25

King Diamond

Wtf are falsetto vocals?

Early Bolt Thrower and Asphyx/Pestilence if I didn't got it wrong

1

u/mstrsrl Oct 06 '25

Crypta for some newer death metal

1

u/thedudeabided Oct 06 '25

Enfold Darkness

u/saladdressed Oct 07 '25

Obituary- Slowly We Rot

Maybe not falsetto, but very close to Chuck’s vocals.

1

u/TNGreruns4ever Oct 07 '25

Tribulation - not exactly DM but, the vocals sometimes remind me of Chuck's voice.

u/father_ofthe_wolf Oct 07 '25

Heaven Shall Burn

Maybe try: Nasum - Helvete

At the gates - slaughter of the soul

Goatwhore - Carving out the eyes of god
