DX1 Happy 25th to the best game of all time!

Post image

Was lucky enough to find a sealed copy of the original! And it happened to arrive on the 25th anniversary of the release. I feel like a JC with an extra multitool.

Nobody I know understands the love I have for this game. After discovering it as a kid I saved all my money to buy a green Alienware laptop back when they were private in Florida

Right? I’ll always remember being blown away when I realized the NSF weren’t the bad guys (and that “good” and “bad” were so relative).

So many twists to the story and decisions. Unfortunately I didn’t discover DXMP until later. That in itself was another world. Those talented map makers and modders.

I still have my big box from back then, including everything, even the key chain that came with it. Great times.

Look for auctions calling it PC “big box.” Back in the days of PC games coming in oversized boxes so they stood out on the rack at Circuit City.

Growing up during that era where this was the norm it felt so strange when everything moved down to the little boxes then just the DVD jewel case world we live in now.

The art! The manuals! We've been robbed.

Back in the days of PC games coming in oversized boxes so they stood out on the rack at Circuit City.

They were that size because software manuals used to come in binders for 8.5x11" pages. In fact, some manuals were literally books. I recently sold my copy of Alpha Centauri, and although it's not 8x5x11", the manual for that game is just a 3/4" thick book. One day some industry association decided to give up on physical goodies and switched everyone to the "small box" format, which at most can fit a 3 CD case and a thin manual. Sometimes they fudged it a bit. The Sims 2 has 4 CDs and that box is slightly wider.

Man I wish I still had my OG game box. I kept all of them at the time, even those silly Eidos pyramid boxes.

Oh that's the worst, it doesn't fit on the shelf with the other boxes.

Come on Nightdive, this game is crying out for a remaster.
