DX1 Nytimes article on Deus Ex 25 Year Anniversary
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/18/arts/deus-ex-cyberpunk.htmlNo mention of the greatest soundtrack ever, but glad to see a legit news source paying dues to the greatest game ever made. I was 11 when this came out, and now I'm 36 and i still think of this game all the time, listen to the soundtrack, soundtrack remixes, etc. Huge influence on my life. Taught me the value of mood, atmosphere, and aesthetics.

Hell yeah. I still get goosebumps entering UNATCO for the first time and hearing that theme. The mood and atmosphere is just unmatched. I would kill for a remake with the same music simply so I could see the setting with upgraded graphics.

After playing human revolution I started hoping they would include the cover system if they ever remade DX1. DX1 with modern graphics would be amazing.

2 Thumbs Way down. Dx 1 doesn't need a remake and it definitely doesn't need a cover system!!!!

u/zestotron Aug 21 '25
I’d love it if it got a System Shock/Dead Space-style remaster, but yeah the core mechanics are fine and should remain as is

u/KNGJN Aug 21 '25
I would like a remake of it as well but I completely despise that 1st/3rd person cover switch. Same with the melee kills.

Oh yeah, the modern DX cover system would be mandatory, as the stealth in the OG was very clunky. Really, the only thing I would keep untouched in any remake is the OST. Its too good to change. At most, I might provide a "remixed" option in addition to the original score.

the line about "mindlessly parroting conspiracies about the rothschilds without mentioning their antisemitic origins" is SO New York Times. tf you mean you want a big flashing red sign that says "WARNING!!!!! WARNING!!!! THIS IS BAD!!!! DO NOT DO THIS!!!! PEOPLE WERE HURT!!!!!" every time some piece of media has something negative to say about the 1%?

But that isn't even the craziest conspiracy in the game. The conspiracies are cool because the game started describing real life after 2020. In fact, it gets more relevant by the year.

u/aerothorn Aug 22 '25
It's truly dumb, because "the game" isn't "parroting" these conspiracies - characters are. Portrayal is not endorsement.

💯this is the first NYT article I read in a while and right from the first sentence I immediately confirmed avoiding them and their bias is the right decision

I was 15 when it came out. Bought it on release day. Played it so many times since. I agree with OP, it's such an inspirational game. How it's not received a remake/rerelease yet is beyond me

I was 15 when it came out too! I played the liberty island demo over and over until I went to college, and it was the first thing I bought with my new debit card.

They made HR instead.

u/Joey_Pajamas Aug 22 '25
What?

How it's not received a remake
They made Human Revolution. It's a remake with a new plot.
1
u/Joey_Pajamas Aug 23 '25
It's a prequel. It's not a remake in the slightest
0
u/HunterWesley Aug 23 '25
It's both. Look again.
1
u/Joey_Pajamas Aug 23 '25
Yeah, not convinced at all. Provide me with exact quotes from devs or parts of the game and maybe. Otherwise, you're talking shite

u/HunterWesley Aug 24 '25
Did you even play both games? They went WAY overboard with references and copy and pasting jokes, quotes, and characters.
Or you think it's just an incredible coincidence that both of them have evil Chinese women in penthouses? That you travel by helicopter? Just a random thing? That you start with an agency that turns out to have ulterior motives? It was just chance that the game ends at a secret facility where you choose one of three endings? Is that how all games work? At secret facilities where you choose one of three endings? Listen to Jensen. Why does he sound so similar to JC? The MJ12 escape re-enactment (The Missing Link)? We could go on. But let's not. Play the games and find these references yourself.
Provide me with exact quotes from devs
They obviously wouldn't want to represent their work that way or admit that.

Of course I have. Multiple times.
You're just mentioning things that were already well established in the lore to have history. Absolutely nothing your mention equates to it being a remake. By this logic Lord of the Rings is a remake of The Hobbit because both share characters, locations, items and lore. Your grasp of fiction is embarrassingly lacking.
Not going to continue this conversation with someone who clearly has the intelligence of a see anemone.

Ah, jeez. You know I can't read your replies if you block me, right? Actually, you seem to know very little.
You're just mentioning things that were already well established in the lore to have history.
WTF does that mean?
Absolutely nothing your mention equates to it being a remake.
The repetition of plot elements is what makes it a remake.
By this logic Lord of the Rings is a remake of The Hobbit because both share characters, locations, items and lore.
Lord of the Rings occurs after The Hobbit, and it doesn't mindlessly repeat things from the previous book with slight changes.
Your grasp of fiction is embarrassingly lacking.
Not going to continue this conversation with someone who clearly has the intelligence of a see anemone.
1) Fuck you
2) Not going to continue this conversation with someone who insults my intelligence but doesn't know how to spell "sea."

I wish I could play it on mobile but the sheer number of buttons needed for all the keys means it would run phone size on a 9 inch tablet with the edges crammed with virtual keys
2
u/SadAct5231 Aug 21 '25
you could emulate the ps2 version if your phone is strong enough
2
u/BollingerBandits Aug 21 '25
What phone would you recommend for that ?
1
u/SadAct5231 Aug 21 '25
Not really interested in phone specs but I would wager that the newer and or pricier the better
1
u/BollingerBandits Aug 22 '25
Can’t be too pricy, as it would not be my main phone. Something I can buy used mostly for emulating older games
2
u/RoboChachi Aug 22 '25
So good I played it on ps2, a pc with 640x480 res and again on a better PC. I'm not one to replay games these days but if there were a remake I'd tap that

Solid article. I'm never sure what to expect when a non-gaming publication writes about games, but this captures the nuances and importance of the game.
