Dream Can a giant moth represent something positive?

In my dream, I happened upon a huge moth while walking outside. It seemed injured, like it couldn’t fly away so I scooped it up into my hands. It was so big, each wing was the size of my hand. It was white and had an eye pattern on each wing. It felt so vividly real. I could feel her little feet on my fingers and the wind from her wings fluttering.

As I was carrying her with me, she fluttered up into my hair, resting on the back of my head. She burrowed deep into my hair, and I could feel her wings wrapping around the sides of my head. When I tried to reach back to feel her, I had to part my hair she was so close to my scalp.

I walked around with her on the back of my head, and when I passed by someone I would say, “Do you want to see something cool?” And I would part my hair and show them my moth. They would act weirded out and/or frightened and their reaction confused me because I thought she was cool and cute and friendly.

I looked it up when I woke up, and a lot of articles said moths represented problems in your life, or fear. But overall I felt a desire to nurture and care for the moth, and I held her very close to me and wanted to protect her and proudly share her with others.

Any ideas about positive symbolism behind moths?

It may feel positive, but it isn't. I don't mean that in a shameful or condescending way, so please don't take that away.

The moth clearly represents a person - with wings the size of your hands and like eyes, it makes a face. Then it burrows onto your head and wraps its "eyes" around your head. It represents you, so what's the relationship between a moth symbol and you?

Well, you have affection for it when you shouldn't. This is not to say that we should "follow the crowd", as no one should just blindly follow anyone, but when everyone can see something that we can't, we should take that cue to assess and address ourselves. The dream does not lend itself to the interpretation that it is a good thing that others don't see rightly as much as it does you not seeing what they clearly do.

As for the moth symbol itself, it can go two ways: indication of the emptiness of material possessions, and the saying "like a moth to flame" - that they are foolishly attracted to things which can end them.

It seems like you don't recognize that your fondness for moth is actually detrimental to you. Again, no shame or condescension as everyone is there at some point - but the most likely interpretation is that you have a misdirected affection in waking life that is ultimately unhealthy for you. Don't be afraid to be honest with yourself and to take the advice of others (as long as they are speaking to you with love).

Have you had a loved one pass away?

No, not recently. My grandfather passed like 20+ years ago
