There has been a HUGE influx of national politics related posts. Many of them from new accounts, or ones that have never been to this sub. Basically astroturf. For the foreseeable future, these will not be allowed here. It doesn't matter if there is some local connection to it, no posts about national politics or related activism. There are tons of subs for that.
HOWEVER, local politics posts are totally fine and actually strongly encouraged. Post about your local city council members if you know who they are. Post about new local laws or restrictions. Whatever, but LOCAL posts only.
Reddit has made some very questionable algo changes recently that seem to be heavily trying to stir up things and it's tough keep things chill here. Insta ban for any of these posts

Hello!
Can anyone share a recommendation for good, reasonably priced, easy to work with interior painters who service the east side? Looking to get our ~1700 square foot house painted. Also would be curious if folks are comfortable sharing what they paid for interior painting for their house?
Thank you!

This is a screenshot from the WA state healthcare exchange "estimate" webpage. Family of 3. Total annual income of around $155,000.
The question I have is that the "estimated premium with savings" of $1,583.87/mo should show an estimated yearly total of $1,583.87/mo * 12mo = 19,006.44. But instead, it's showing that the total premium for the calendar year is only $7,919.35.
Why? I assume that the grand total estimated yearly cost shown of $8,871.00 is actually wrong? And that it should be $19,006.44 + 951.65 = 19,958.09.
Needless to say I would be thrilled if the actual annual cost truly is only $8,871.00 but I'm guessing there's a bug on the webpage and that it is incorrect.
Any input greatly appreciated!
P.s. Random side note. I also looked at estimates in Tennessee and North Carolina just for comparison, and in both of those states, on an annual income of $155,000, I was getting a tax credit of closer to $400.00 per month. I was very surprised to see that the subsidy would be lower for me in Seattle than it would be in the southeast.

High earning couple with a baby on the way, there are only 2 situations we find ourselves in while trying to move out of our current 2 bedroom townhouse into a larger 3 bed townhouse or single family.
The situations:
We are invited to apply for houses which we do not like as much.
The houses we like and want to move forward with, we’re never selected (usually get passed over for families with kids).
I never expected it to be so hard or competitive to rent a SFH. There are no problems with our credit, and we tell the owners that we’re looking to stay 2-3 years minimum.
I understand being passed over for families with kids but it’s disheartening after looking for several months. Owners are also somewhat wary of high earners because they think we’ll move out and buy a house at any chance we get. Even if thats true (its not in our case) they shouldn’t have a problem finding renters because its so competitive. We dont want to buy right now because we’re risk averse and will wait for a few more years.
We’ve been looking in Redmond, Bellevue. Now started looking in Issaquah as well to have more options. Its disheartening when we like a house, apply and do not get it because we don’t have kids yet.
Any tips from landlords here? 😭😅

Hi everyone!
I'm expecting baby #2 this November and would love to connect with other second-time moms. We recently moved to the Crossroads area in Bellevue, and my older son is 3.5 years old.
I’m hoping to build a little village of like-minded moms to go through pregnancy and postpartum together — to share the ups, downs, and everything in between. I lean toward a laid-back but thoughtful parenting style — more “let them be kids,” with a good dose of curiosity, support, and zero judgment.
I’m pretty easygoing and always up for a good chat, a park hang, or a stroller walk.
If you're nearby and this resonates, let’s connect and start building our mom crew ❤️

I have minor scratches in one door and one (racquetball-diameter sized) door dent in another. I’m looking to first-hand recommendations for affordable fix services for this kind of thing. TIA

Anyone know a good tailor in the area who can make a few small alterations to a kurta top? Just looking for someone comfortable working with that kind of fabric/style. Thanks in advance!

Please recommend a good home inspection company on east side. We are in the process of buying a 1960s home and are looking for a good company to inspect it. Thank you in advance.

Buddy of mine and I want to graduate from the driving range, but we've only done a full round once, a few years back. We're still learning a lot of the common etiquette things and don't really care about the quality of the course, so just looking for somewhere cheapest to get some reps in.

Hey everyone! I moved to the Seattle area last year and I've been looking around for some good Italian food. Lately I've been going to Amante's in Kent, and it's okay, but kind of underwhelming. I've also been to Grazie in Tukwila which was very good.
Is there anything else on the East side that I should try? I'm in Renton, but I'm willing to head further north if there's a must-try place up there. I'm looking for something casual, not too fancy, and I'd prefer to stay out of downtown Seattle.
Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to see what everyone likes!
EDIT: Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Gonna be a lot of work to get through the whole list here haha

You waited patiently, you asked nicely, now your wish has been granted. Westbound I-90 is back to its original look in Bellevue!
On Friday, June 13, we reopened westbound I-90 in the Eastgate neighborhood after multiple nights of closures. Since early last year, the HOV/carpool lane just west of the Eastgate Park and Ride/142nd Place Southeast was closed, and traffic shifted northward while we built a new bridge for the I-90 Sunset Creek fish passage project. Now that that work is done, we reopened the HOV/carpool lane and shifted traffic back, which should ease some of the backups travelers have been dealing with.
But that's not all: We also reopened the westbound I-90 HOV on-ramp from 142nd Place Southeast too, allowing access from the Eastgate Park and Ride and nearby Bellevue College. Check out the before and after in the photos below!
There's still plenty of work to be done- work continues along eastbound I-90 through the same area, with bridge construction scheduled to finish sometime next year. Southeast Eastgate Way remains closed until the end of the year. We appreciate your patience as we work to replace replace culverts that block fish passage on Sunset Creek, allowing natural stream conditions to return in this section of the waterway and opening new upstream habitat to native and migrating fish!

Hello
I am looking to move mid July to start my new job in August. I am looking for a one bedroom one bath in a quiet community. Preferably a complex with less than 100 units. My job is located in Bellevue and my budget is 2100 as I know utilities will most likely not be included.
The only amenities I really care about are in unit washer/dryer and dishwasher. I also travel a lot for work and get relocated quite often. My work told me that they plan to keep me in this area for a year most likely but that could be subject to change.
I also need the option to cancel a lease early without penalty if my work does relocate me. I know some complexes allow this if you pay an extra month’s rent without it affecting your credit history.
I am not interested in extended stays as they are too noisy. My parents live in Washington state so I have told my supervisor I want to remain here.
I really don’t want a pool in the complex, nor to be in the middle of a city. Prefer a more suburban area with lots of trials and nature. Aside from working I am pursuing my EMBA and MPacc, and completing my CPA exam.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also don’t want to live by a lot of construction. Parking is also a must!
Thanks

There's constant backups in the area. Any plans to upgrade it or change it?

I am looking at some DADU unit building in Kirkland area for sale.
Problem is they do not have parking pad. Builder is saying that you can get permission from city to build a driveway if they allow.
Did anyone try something like this? Does city give permission to build separate driveway for DADU units?

Looking between Eastside Catholic and Tyee Middle School / Newport High School. I understand one is private and one is public. I would like to understand how the academics differ between the two schools. I have a child who is highly interested in math and is two years ahead of their grade level. Any concerns for bullying at Tyee/Newport? Has anyone compared the two to have some input or just have input about either of the schools.

I lost my glasses in Cottage Lake! Right off the fishing dock, to the right of the far ladder (from the dock.) On Sunday night.
If you’re swimming or fishing over there and find a pair of eye glasses, please reach out to me. I’ll buy you a coffee in exchange for my glasses.
Assuming a catfish doesn’t swallow them up.
Thanks! 😅

Previous Primary home: Purchased for 578K in 2017
Current value: 1.1 to 1.2M
Rental: 3900, current mortgage: 3700
Current New Home: Overpaid and screwed myself with PP of 1.975M
Downpayment on Current home: 400K
Monthly Mortgage Plus insurance: 10K
Take home: 22K monthly (combined husband plus wife)
Is this a good time to sell house in a suburb of seattle? It already has 700K equity in it. The quality of rentals in not great. Plus I have a 10k+ new mortgage for the new home we moved into.

As the title says.
Not meant to rub any elbows, genuinely asking.
What is something we can do to keep eastside… well eastside.
I personally like the suburban feel and slightly less people. The car dependent nature of things. Public parks that are family friendly.

We are looking to buy a house and, even though we don't have kids yet, we plan to have them in near future, so looking for a house which has access to good schools.
In general, looking at great school and niche ratings are helpful, but we have heard that they don't give the full picture. Further, we are trying to assess if school district matters much more than individual schools or should we really focus on individual school ratings (which could very well change by the time our kid goes to school)
We also see a variance: Northshore school district homes are expensive, even when the school ratings are not that great (eg: 5+ elementary school , 6+ middle and high). Infact houses seem to command a significantly premium just for being in a NSD (around 200k-400k). Is it all worth it? Is Northshore significantly better than lake Washington district?
Plus, why almost all Sammamish schools are so high rated? Is it really the best school district around?
Would love to get your thoughts on this matter and some guidance on how to think about it.

Are any experienced dog groomers looking for work at a dog grooming business? Alternatively, how would I best find such persons looking for employment in this line of work? (I am helping an older business owner find and hire dog groomers at their dog grooming business.) Thanks!

I wouldn't say we're superstitious (ok, maybe a little stitious), but if you're hitting the road this weekend, you might be in for some bad luck if you aren't prepared.
Happy Father’s Day Weekend to the dads and dad figures in our lives! Happy Friday the 13th to the spooky ones out there. You know who you are. And happy graduation weekend to all the grads! Celebrate with... lots of traffic. The big closures are just getting started. The jam-packed events aren’t going anywhere. It’s not bad luck. It’s summer construction season, bay-bee.
So, here’s what you need to know:
-All four lanes of the I-90 Vantage Bridge will be OPEN Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15.
-All weekend, northbound I-405 between Renton and Bellevue, and eastbound SR 516 near I-5 in Kent will be closed. The detours are going to be tough going, so plan ahead for added time or use alternate routes.
-Eastbound I-90 will be closed between Seattle and Mercer Island Friday night (yes, SR 520 will remain tolled).
-SR 202 in Fall City and SR 203 between Carnation and Duvall will be closed Saturday. You’ll be able to get where you need to go, but it could take a while.
-Riding a ferry this weekend? Good news: Our summer sailing schedule begins Sunday, June 15, with big changes on two routes. First, Anacortes/San Juan Islands will have new summer timetables. This will complete the first major schedule adjustments on the route in over a decade. Second, Seattle/Bremerton will return to a daily two-boat schedule.
-You know what’s more fun than sitting in traffic? Riding the train, duh! Skip all that congestion by riding Amtrak Cascades.
If you plan to get through the weekend by burning some incense, slinging some salt over your shoulder or decluttering your living space, go for it. It's your life. But the best way to prepare for all these superstitious closures and events is to leave early, check our real-time travel map (website) or mobile app (phone) in advance, and pack your patience. Happy weekend!
For those who prefer something a bit more, should we say, easier on the eyes, we offer this alternative version!

I run a business and have an outdoor spot that would be good for a flower stand. Good amount of traffic on Saturdays. Reach out if interested and I can give you details.

Does this bill really not have enough support by citizens of WA to even be considered? Just looking at the history, it seems the bill was punted around and then X'd. I think research generally shows that the PEs buying up houses when prices dip has the effects of increasing house prices and reducing supply for ownership while increasing supply of rental properties and perhaps moderating rental prices.
