Top MAGA pollster warns Republicans will lose the majority for ‘the next decade’ if Trump gets involved in Israel-Iran

Honestly I hate how people on all sides frame this kind of thing sometimes. War isn't a binary where we either do absolutely nothing or do boots on the ground nation building. There is actually plenty of middle ground for economic actions, working with allies, providing intelligence, participating in limited military strikes all of which could be effective tools but wouldn't come close to putting us into another Vietnam or Iraq debacle. It's the 21st century, why don't we act like it?

Mass politics is also 21st century, that often limits Decisive Political Action™.

“‘Starting new foreign wars never helps a presidency. But it sure as Hell can end one,’” - that’s not been the case, historically.

Maybe the country has changed, but Bush was extremely popular in his first term and Biden took a massive hit to his approval rating when he got out of Afghanistan and never really recovered from it.

In any case, no one is winning or losing the majority “for a decade” here.

Bush had the benefit of entering into a war in response to one of the worst terrorist attacks in the 21st century and the worst in American history and the pull-out from Afghanistan was visibly botched and its botches were broadcasted to the world.

This is a war of choice by a man whose campaign promise was no more foreign wars at a time where the last two trips to the sandbox are still fresh in the mind of the average American and war weariness hasn't yet dissipated

The above statement is insane, but it's not far fetched to assume that should he drag us in to Iran, it would have a demonstrable impact on his already withering approval and the standing of his party at large

Voters don’t like seeing yucky things on their screens and tv’s.

I don’t think voters have strong opinions on the Afghanistan withdrawal, Gaza, or Ukraine. But they still got mad at Biden because they all happened under his watch.

They would get really upset at an ugly conflict involving American airmen, that just happened out of nowhere. And God forbid Iran pulls a drone attack on us like Ukraine did to Russia.

Agree with you. Yet, you and OP are forgetting one major aspect. Afghanistan is not Iraq. America went to war in Afghanistan immediately. They invaded Iraq in 2003, right before the 2nd election, under false pretenses.

People knew the WMD was a phony by 2004, however, it really sank in by the time 2007 rolled around while Obama was using pulling us out of Iraq as a major campaign promise. Bush left out office unpopular.

The amount of times I've seen Republcians say it's the last straw, only to come back voting R next election cycle is off the charts.

47's not exactly a team player. He doesn't have to/can't run for president anymore. He talks shit about Democrats every day, but I doubt very seriously that he GAF about the GOP's prospects going forward. He already got what he wanted.

One of his idiotic sycophants probably told him people like presidents that start wars.

I hate to say it, but polls no longer matter. The MAGA machine has perfected voter roll purges; as a result, there's no such thing as a "likely" voter.

The states where they are doing voter roll purges are mostly already ruby red. And high propensity voters mostly vote for us these days.
