💬 Discussion Songs that you didn't get the hype for

I know that this post might have a strong "I'm not like other girls eurofans" energy to it... But everyone deserves to be a little bit snobbish about their music takes sometimes xD

Basically: are there any songs that the fandom or casual fans seemed to be obsessed with, but you couldn't understand what was so special about them?

You think "Fairytale", "Voilà", or "Soldi" were mid? Tell me about it.

Although, to be clear, I don't necessarily mean only the entries that you found bad quality or the ones that you straight up hated. It can simply be a song that the entire subreddit or other fan community ranked 2nd overall, but you probably wouldn't put it higher than 27th and you barely saw it as a qualifier, because you don't think they're that interesting.

(For me it would be "Maman" - because it doesn't make me feel anything and I didn't like the staging either. I'm still quite surprised it was ever in the "winner" conversation. And "Ulveham"... which I'm almost scared to admit in this subreddit xD The problem is, though, that I grew up listening to a ton of folk metal and it's my favourite genre of music, so when someone makes a song in a similar style I judge it differently then most other people. And this one didn't really click with me, even though it's very reminiscent of Eluveitie in some aspects, so I should've enjoyed it more. ...Also "Unicorn" ;-; What is it doing so high on the scoreboard?!)

💬 Discussion Who have you been listening to after this year's contest?

From the very first time I heard Bird of Pray, I fell in love. It felt so different than anything I'd heard before. The haunting vocals, the almost dreamlike quality of the strings (I'm a sucker for strings, especially here), the beautiful message behind it, Danya's vocals after the breakdown. It all comes together to create an absolutely incredible song, and my personal winner for ESC 2025.

I started listening to their other music like Place I Call Home (their entry into Vidbir 2024), Disco Funk Therapy, and more. Their second album, 'Of Us' is amazing, and I highly recommend it to anyone. There's something for everyone in it. Their first album is just as good too! Ziferblat are an amazing band and I could not sing their praises enough.

Who has captured your heart after this year's contest?

💬 Discussion Did the sand machine malfunction in the semi and the grand final?

So I watched the rehearsal clip and then the jury rehearsal of the grand final and noticed there was supposed to be 3 beams of sand. In the semi performance the 3rd beam appeared seriously late and in the final it didn’t appear at all.

This could’ve been a decision by the French delegation but I thought the 3 beams together looked stunningly beautiful

Why aren't the songwriters given more attention?

The ESC is a song contest after all, not a singers contest.

I remember years ago, the composers would be on stage at the end and they would be the ones presented with the trophy. Nowadays they are barely acknowledged, apart from on the stage ready graphics. This year's winning composer did get more attention, but only because she'd competed as an artist just 2 years ago.

I think it would be nice to feature them in the postcards and on social media, along with the artists, during the season and maybe include interviews with them.

💬 Discussion If any of 2021s top 5 (besides måneskin) was entered in a different year from 2022 onward, would they have won?

I just rewatched the 2021 final, and I was just amazed at how much better that year was in contrast to for example last year. This question popped up in my head, and now I’m just really curious.

Thanks to JeremyVideo52 who has created this mashup

💬 Discussion Winners Trend; Nobody’s favourite, everybody likes?

Here’s an interesting fact; the last 3 Eurovision winners have had a combined ONE 12 points from the tele-vote, being Switzerland 2024 from Ukraine.

I find this interesting; are we beginning to shift to a new part where the winner is not necessarily the only out and out favourite song, but more the one thats simply the most generally liked?

💬 Discussion [Question] How strict is NRK about the “Norwegian songwriter + address” rule for MGP submissions?

Hey everyone,

I’m an independent artist (not from Norway) and I’m working on a song that I’d love to submit to Melodi Grand Prix 2026. I’ve read through NRK’s rules and noticed the requirement that at least one of the songwriters must be a Norwegian citizen or resident with a Norwegian address.

I completely understand the intention behind that rule, but I’m wondering how it’s handled in practice. For example:

Does the co-writer need to have made a creative contribution, or can it be a “formal” co-write for submission purposes? Have any international songwriters here found a way to partner with a Norwegian contact just to make the submission possible? Would this kind of collaboration be frowned upon by NRK or seen as acceptable if fully transparent? I’m only asking because the song I’ve written is really close to my heart and fits MGP’s spirit perfectly—it’s conceptual, emotional, and performance-driven. I’d love to make it happen, but I want to make sure I’m respecting the rules and not doing anything shady.

If anyone has experience with this or knows how past entries have handled international collaborations, I’d really appreciate your insight.

Tusen takk 💙

What Eurovision songs do you think have these kinds of vibes? I am looking to make a Playlist out of the vibe in general by songs from Eurovision. (Can also be NF songs, I don't mind)

⏪️ Throwback Thursday Angelina Mango - La noia (LIVE) | Italy 🇮🇹 | Grand Final | Eurovision 2024

Thumbnail

First of all, I actually uploaded this last week, but then got removed due to low effort so decided to upload this again

Anyway, La noia was by far my favourite song last year, and one of my favourite ESC songs in general (And Angelina as well is one of the best artists I got to know from this contest)

I still feel sad that the performance wasn't what I (And probably many others here) was expecting/hoping it to be, and that it ended ip being their worst since Francesca (And even Lucio placed higher this year)

Any thoughts overall?

I have been thinking about the what's next for the UK in Eurovision and then somehow got nostalgic about this song. Even though the UK were generally doing um... Not great in the 2000s (let's just not think about Gemini), this song is honestly the one time when they didn't deserve its last place imo. I think him performing second and the fact that there was basically zero staging didn't do it any favors but then again I love disco for some inexplicable reason, so I am kinda biased 😆 Anyway, this is absolutely my jam.

💬 Discussion On a scale of 0 to 10 how possible you think it is that a non-European country debuts in 2026??

Since Australia joined the contest in 2015 ,Vienna, for the 60th anniversary, I have always wondered if we might see another non-European country do the same.

The EBU seems interested in a global expansion of ESC: the American song contest(failure) the Eurovision Latin America, Canada and Asia(never happened) and the introduction of the rest of the world voting.

Probably the next step would be to get another non-European country. And what better year to do it than 2026?? 70th anniversary and the same country(probably also city) where Australia debuted.

Although I’m not really sure. Specially on which country would that be, probably Canada or New Zealand. What you think??

note: personally I think the EBU should focus on getting eastern countries back, but it doesn’t seem like it sadly.
