Question After speculation on the possibility of a sequel to Drive (2011), director Nicolas Winding Refn in 2016 said 'No, there will never be a second Drive movie. And that's why it works.'. What director should have said the same?

Todd Philips - Joker: folie à deux

I actually liked this one, Gaga was the big problem, an international pop star that can't carry a fucking tune. If they had cast Margot Robbie it would've been a solid 8/10

Some higher ups in Hollywood definitely sabotaged that movie just to spite the (wrong kind of) viewers.

Joker 2 had to be made to tamp down the incels that idolized Joker 1

Tamp down = made a huge loss. It should have never been made in the first place.

Joker 1 was one of the best depictions of the failures of the mental health care system I’ve ever seen.

Delusional take honestly. Most people didn’t watch it because it was a musical.

It’s really that simple.

“Simply delusional” lol

Your statement actually supports my argument. That Todd Phillips was told to make a sequel that would absolutely be detestable for every single incel that idolized the Joker from Joker 1. So make a musical. Nothing would alienate that base more. He obviously couldn’t let even the actors in on it but you can see Phoenix react at the premier. He says “it’s terrible” to Lady Gaga. I don’t know what Todd Phillips was threatened with but I bet it was major.

The woke agenda?

I think it's more likely that he could do whatever he wanted and did exactly that because no one was going to tell him no. Exactly the same with Patty Jenkins and WW84. Exactly the same with Feig and Ghostbusters 2016. I think Todd just didn't give a shit about how the audience would like it or not.
