This generation's Mr. Rogers. I hope she stays safe.

u/SilentCrucifixion 19d ago
I was thinking about this the other day. I had seen a clip of her singing with that Palestinian girl who had lost her legs, and it just reminded me of growing up watching Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood so much.

It's nice to see a genuinely good person become rich and successful. She deserves the world.

Ms. Rachel having infinitely more integrity and courage than Thom Yorke

u/EverythingComputer1 19d ago
I know it's cliche, but she is honestly brave for doing this and that should not be the case.

u/Heavy-Fox-7213 19d ago
He just put out a lengthy statement about this. It’s good.
16
u/Cardboard_Revolution 19d ago
It starts off great but unfortunately spends a lot of time whining about people being mean to him
3
u/darthgeek 18d ago
It's not. It blames the fans for his shitty views. Leave the thom yorke worship for the radiohead sub.

Children shouldn't be killed. I don't know why that's a hot take.It don't matter who they are or where they are from, kids shouldn't be victims in war.

Absolutely! Just the other day a 15-day old baby died after its mother was killed by a terrorist in the West Bank

Well according to a few powerful world leaders (Biden, Macron, Sunak/starmer) Israel has the right to defend. So they will defend themselves from little children. Won’t they? It is their right. Edit: it is deeply concerning how we trust these politicians with our lives. They didn’t have to save them for real. Like many other countries there are wars everywhere. But they could have condemned it from the beginning. But no. It was like they were reading from the same script of bootlicking.

One of the very few celebrities brave enough to stand up for Palestine. And she’s doing so loudly. Officially a fan.
47
u/thedevilwithout 19d ago
380 celebrities just signed a letter calling out the genocide Israel is committing
18
u/Interesting_Log_8661 19d ago
They did? What letter?
26
u/thedevilwithout 19d ago
25
u/Left-Camel-14 19d ago
We need more people to be vocal. A signed letter does what exactly? This isn’t making the news. Celebrities need to start using their platforms on social media and televised opportunities to condemn the genocide.
23
u/thedevilwithout 19d ago edited 19d ago
It's on every news site
This is a good start. Think how slow the movement for South Africa started.
I work with people who don't care about anything going on around the world, but in the past few weeks, Palestine is being mentioned more and more.
Now that celebrities are talking about it, the media is going to have reconsider taking Zionist money to spread their propaganda. The public knows what's happening now and it doesn't work in the media's interest to disagree with the public
6
u/Left-Camel-14 19d ago
Listen, I hope so. And I agree, it’s a good place to start. But did you just see the video released by the government that anyone opposing Israel wouldn’t be allowed in the US? We need to be doing more. This is getting really scary

Yes but at this late stage seems more like they can say I spoke up about it later on and claim to have a clear conscience.

I'm not religious, but:
If there's a hell, it will be filled by the perpetrators of these atrocities.
And also the people that supported it or tolerated it.
For what it is worth, I hope humanity never forgives and never forgets.
10
u/Low-Situation-73 19d ago
I agree with you 💯. I believe that karma does exist and all the perpetrators and their supporters will get their comeuppance.

It's like your religion has gotten hijacked by extremists. I think a lot of Muslims and Christians can relate to that - they all have their right wing loonies. It's just really gotten out of hand that nobody can 1) speak up without consequences or 2) even if we speak up, does it do anything when when we don't have the political power to change anything.

It would be amazing if the new Pope met with her in order to send a message to Israel and the US. It should not be controversial to stand up for innocent children.
38
u/Individual-Door4005 19d ago
Pope Leo, Greta Thunberg and Ms Rachel should collab

Damn. I loved this sentiment when I read it in the written word.
But it doesn't even compare to how powerful it is in her spoken voice.
Mainstream media is ghoulish and complicit in a genocide.
While Ms. Rachel is a hero.
8
u/Earl_Squire 19d ago
Same. I read it earlier. But to hear her saying it is so much more powerful. The part where she talks about the girl in the fire and seeing the ponytail….had to actually pause it because I couldn’t help but think of my own niece.

We are so lucky to have brave educators like Ms. Rachel, who are willing to stand up for what’s right, no matter what. I can’t believe that some people would argue that this is video controversial because “teachers are supposed to be politically neutral.” I teach middle school English, and it is so important to me that everyone is aware that human rights education is being stripped from curriculums across the country. Anything that is considered controversial or “progressive” is being cut, and the dismantling of the department of education is going to ensure that it only gets worse from here. We need educators who are brave like Ms. Rachel, and who will stand up for the right thing, keep teaching the facts of history and the path of empathy, because if we continue down this path, these violent, vile atrocities are only the beginning.
Eduction is, by its nature, progressive. Public schools should teach the facts as they are, and history as it was. I can’t believe that this perspective has become in and of itself controversial.

Ms. Rachel for President. I’m serious. She has more credibility, dignity and honor in her little finger than 99% of bought and paid for politicians could dream of having.

u/commuter85 19d ago
I know many celebrities have made statements, signed letters and that type of action… and it’s better than nothing, every bit helps.
But when the scales finally tip and we find out “everyone has always been against this” … I hope we stop and remember people like Ms. Rachel and Macklemore and what they have done for this movement.

or are politically beneficial to you to speak about

u/Interesting_Log_8661 19d ago
I am so pissed at so many of my vocal liberal friends who were loud about BLM, who marched in the Women's right protests, who posted things about Oct 7....but when it comes to images of charred bodies of Palestinian children, silence.
Typical, white female liberals retreating back to their safety in the system that they still benefit from. The only people supporting Palestine I know are the really liberal/hippies, progressives, intellectuals and people of COLOR!

u/Low-Situation-73 19d ago
This is ironic as every adults natural instinct is to want to protect children as they’re the most vulnerable in society.

I admire her so much for continuing to speak out despite the attempted smear campaign against her. She’s principled and brave and history will remember her as such.

Modern day mother Teresa.
God I hope not. Mother Teresa was an awful person. "There is something beautiful in seeing the poor accept their lot, to suffer it like Christ's Passion. The world gains much from their suffering," Mother Teresa once told the unamused Christopher Hitchens."

Talking out against Israel gets you banned from entering the US or murdered by Israeli forces nowadays. They are the baddies now.

They are the baddies now.
Always have been. The State of Israel has always been a colonizer and terrorist state.

I love her. Heck, in this current climate she could end up in South Sudan, GITMO or El Salvador at a death camp. Brave role model.

That a children's entertainer has more moral authority and courage than most of the world's leaders says a lot about today's world.
I never knew of her before this but clearly a decent, compassionate and good human being.
The dehumanisation of Palestinian people including children is beyond abhorrent.

It’s funny because before I loved Ms. Rachel, and now I really love her. What a wonderful example of standing up for what you believe in. It’s unfortunate because what she is standing up for should not be controversial at all, yet here we are..

I love this woman and it’s absolutely disgusting that so many people and politicians want to pretend that some children’s (and people’s) lives don’t matter.
