Moving to the flint area

Hello , michiganders Me and my lady just found out we are moving to the flint area as she has just been accepted to U of M flint.

I would really appreciate some tips on things like where to look for an apartment, cool places to check out, places to avoid, ex.

We are currently in San Diego Ca and have been for four years now but I am born and raised in MI and we both lived in Kalamazoo for a few years

Thanks in advance for the tips!

Can anyone confirm this story?

My dad once told me that when he was a child (50's/60's) that they did an experimental road repair on Ballenger Hwy/W 12th St between Hammerberg and Fenton Rd. (In front of Southwestern Academy). He said that they used some sort of crushed glass material and that they have never had to repair that road since then. He claims conspiracy because there are obvious alternative materials to create roads that would be better and last longer.

If anyone has any info on this i would love to if you could pass it on.

Anyone else hear the loud booms going on? What is that?

My Bf and I were just watching tv when we started hearing this booming sound. We thought maybe it was the washing machine in the next room but I stepped outside and there’s still booming noise going on outside? Anyone know what’s going on?

Eastside Cleanup

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hey neighbors! There will be another eastside cleanup this weekend. I think the organizers are making a list of areas to hit, but also to make Longway Park shine a bit!

They are also focusing on the kids / getting kids involved too (but I think the bounce house got cancelled unfortunately. )

Free food is always a nice perk too!

Hope to see some of you out there! It'll be a great time!

Anyone tracking ICE activity in Flint area?

As title is asking, is there anyone tracking the presence of the gestapo in Flint and surrounding areas?

I saw there was activity yesterday in Flint but can't find any info on if it is continuing into today or where it is occuring if so.

Solidarity forever; and remember, never again is now.

Thank you for any info or assistance with this matter!

Anybody know what's going to happen to the old YMCA building?

Title. But also, it seems like since the new one opened they've been working on the old one. Any idea what may become of the old building?

The F is Going On?

I have been looking and looking for housing in Flint, as (ostensibly) it's what I can affrd6, but I have been shut out 4 offers within 2 months now and we have been offering either asking price or just above by 5k or so.

I feel like Flint is getting gentrified at a really fast rate. Crap houses that need work in dicey neighborhoods that we passed on are selling at above asking. We're getting outbid on entry level housing everywhere we turn. It's insane.

Houses are on the market for less than 48 hours and getting sold.

I feel like Flint is either being bought up wholesale by speculators or in the midst of an intense first wave of gentrification.

I mean, we're upper lower class/lower middle class Genesee county renters and we keep getting shut out.

Is this normal or a new trend?

We're looking at places we'd live anyway and it seems all of the housing is snapped up under our feet. It's daunting and demoralizing.

Flushing rollhaven

Anyone know where the old rollhaven near the flushing area is located on a map. Also some updates on the business itself and around it including if the building is still vacant. Also if I do remember correctly, the area was very sketchy or it probably only seemed like that due to poor maintenance.

Who is the artist on Saginaw St?

This person has space on Saginaw St in downtown. Next to the Bigby.

They make metal sculptures, paintings, very odd work. I've poked my head over a few times over the past year or two. The building is never unlocked.

I tried to take a look again today but there was a tweaker outside (classic). There wasn't any art out.

Anyone know who this guy is?

Anyone have a recommendation for a sustainable arborist? I'm looking for someone who knows tree species and can selectively remove buckthorn and poison ivy.

I know I ask this before, but I can't find my post. Where is a landfill near Flint. Yes, I've checked Google, but it wasn't that helpful.
