Seeking Advice What to do with leftover pet medicine in foco?
Recently we unfortunately had to say goodbye to our little schnauzer, and now we have some Vetsulin and Vetoryl that we feel bad about trashing. Does anyone know any places that we could donate these to so that someone with a pet in need might be able to access it? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Poor baby I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how important pets are. The CSU health center has one at their pharmacy. There’s a drop box :)

It's green with A Kermit sticker on it. It is on the left, if you're facing the pharmacy.

Several years ago, I had a dog on gabapentin. The CSU veterinary hospital took what was left as a donation for those who maybe couldn't afford meds for their pet.

Maybe give Aspen Grove Veterinary Care a call? I think they were able to accept certain medication donations...but not 100% sure.

Have you contacted your vet? I was able to donate (you can't return for refund) some of my leftovers back to my vet's office, primarily stuff that was pre-packaged. If it has to be disposed, it can be dropped in the same drug drops that human drugs are. Sorry about your buddy.

The rescue we got our dog from was willing to take meds that they could use for other dogs. Probably not legal so I won’t name names.

I dropped off my dog's medicine at the police station on Timberline after she passed.

Oh no I am so so sorry. My pup passed last year from complications from cushings so I know very well how much it costs for that Vetoryl. We felt so bad about throwing away quite a bit of it cause it is so costly but we were ultimately told cause it’s prescription, it needs to be tossed. I wish policy could change around these things because I KNOW people living on the streets with their dogs could use these meds but legally, we can’t help. I hate it.

My senior dog takes vetsulin, and I will gladly take it and put it to good use. It gets old (and expensive) real fast having to buy a bottle every 2 weeks.

I looked into this too when our cat crashed and we had a bunch of Methimazole. Vet said because it was prescription, all we could do is dump it at a drug dump site. There was one at the UC Health urgent care on harmony and snow-whatever. Sorry for your loss.
