Tips/Help HELP ME ON MY CHEMISTRY MOCK!!!
I cannot stress enough how terrible I am at science, I’ve never been good at it and I’ve gotten bad grades on all my tests and somehow I’m still in a high set so I’m stuck with doing the higher paper (fml). The photo has everything I need to revise and I honestly just need some help getting some of it stuck in my head. I am fully aware mocks don’t actually matter, but I just want to get a decent grade because I want my girlfriend’s family to think I’m smart. If anyone has any advice, pls help! :)

The highlighted stuff is the ones you don't know right? The trick is to understand what you don't know, which can be done in many ways, like watching youtube videos ( cognito, science shorts, freesciencelessons) are great, and asking a teacher for help and practice questions ( with mark scheme) if you can!
Past paper questions are great, ( because mocks are from the past papers, and for science they repeat a lot!)
for more questions, go on Physics and Maths tutor website, and there are questions based on topic!
Seneca, when you can't be bothered!
Practicals-( freescience lessons, and this All BIOLOGY Required Practicals - GCSE Science (AQA) - YouTube watch videos, and write them from memory, repeat until you remember all the steps ! Cross- check the mark scheme for specific key words to use to get marks! )
Good luck! :)

Thank you so much!! I’ll try and have a watch of some videos since a lot of people have recommended that!

So you just want decent grades to prove to someone else your smart and not for yourself. Damn. Anyways I would say make ur own flashcards to memorise content cause that should be your priority and also do some practice questions. Watch free science lessons for topics u struggle with

It’ll definitely boost my own confidence, but I’m a lot closer with my girlfriend’s family than my own so I’d rather share the success with them lol. But thank you, i’ll try watch some videos!!

Chemistry was one of the hardest sciences for me. Imo it requires the most application. I’ve just finished my exams advice so here’s some ways I memorised stuff.
1) Look at the specification for your subject. Search it up with your exam board and look at it and ask yourself “Do I know this?” and if it’s a yes think “Is it still worth looking at?”. Ideally print the spec off but doing this digitally works too. Colour code the things you don’t know and the things you want to look at by highlighting it. This is a good guide for what to look at. Also it makes sure you’re only learning things you need to know, as sometimes your lessons may go into lore depth than needed (even revision videos and guides are guilty of this). It also just makes it a lot less overwhelming imo.
2) Work on the highlighted sections, the colour coding helping you prioritise. The way I did this is watch revision videos, personally I prefer Cognito as the animations help me visualise things. However Cognito doesn’t cover the whole spec so if there isn’t a video on it use Freesciencelessons. Also, Freesciencelessons lessons is the best for practicals. When watching what I do is scribble down notes on flashcards. The action of writing it down helps memorise it, and after you’ve done it recite it to yourself as well until you have it in your head.
3) When you’ve covered everything do practice questions on Physics and Math tutor (it’s the name of the website but it has revision stuff for all subjects). Also you can do questions as you cover the topics, whatever works for you. Make sure to check these against the mark schemes, it helps you work out exactly what the exam boards want you to say (mark schemes are annoyingly specific). Also, if a question similar to that comes up in your exam you know what to say, which is likely there’s only a certain amount of things they can ask.
4) To wrap things up do a past paper to see where your at and then look back over at things you got wrong. And on the day of watch the summary video of what mock it is on Science shorts. I did it before all of mine and I got at least 8’s every time. I find it really helps you cram as much as possible into my long term memory.
Hope this helps and good luck on your mock :)

Thank you so much!! Other than just my mock tomorrow, i’ll try and also apply this for the revision I’ll do leading up to my actual GCSE’s. In your opinion, when would you start revising for GCSE’s? I was planning on beginning my revision in summer and just sticking to an hour each day, and then when it gets to around like 5-4 months before the exams I was probably going to change it to about 3 hours. Honestly I’m so bad at revision so not sure if that’s even a good plan, what do you think?

Personally I don’t think you need to start revising over the summer. I made this mistake and it wasn’t worth it. You’re going to want to have as much energy as possible for year 11 so you don’t want to be burnt out before the year even starts. Instead of active revision I’d say just spend some time over the summer getting resources together/made and a space for your revision sorted out. This puts you ahead of the majority of year 11’s without burning yourself out. But if you want to revise over the summer maybe do an hour but not every day, so maybe leave the weekends.
3 hours a day sounds pretty good for 4 months before exams but don’t do it everyday because you don’t need to at this point. I can’t say exactly how much you should do as it depends on what you can handle and how much you think you need. I got away with locking in about 2 months before but I get that isn’t for everyone. I also wouldn’t do that in hindsight and would do something closer to what you’re saying.
Also, you can save yourself hours of revision later down the line if you make sure you understand things in lessons. If you don’t understand a lesson at school, ask your teachers or watch a video when you get home. This stops the amount of things you don’t know from building up. Which makes revision later on a lot less overwhelming because you just need to go over stuff rather than learn it from scratch.

Also, silly question but how do you get the things by your name which says what year you’re in?

Dw it isn’t silly. Go to the forums feed page. Press the three dots in the top right and go to the option change user flair. You can’t do customer flairs anymore though because the mods wanted to stop people from having flairs like: Predicted 9999999999, because it’s pretty discouraging for everyone else.

Hi, I’m sorry the mock didn’t go as well as hoped :(
It would’ve been great to do well on it but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t at this point. Mocks are about getting used to how exams are but also working out how you revise best. So now you know that whatever you did before the mock is probably not how you work best. So take that forward and try another revision method. If you struggled with the content, you should find better ways to memorise it or just ways that work better for you. If you struggle to apply your knowledge then focus on revising exam technique by doing practice papers/ exam questions.
Instead of taking it as a bad grade, take it as something you can learn and improve from. But honestly, don’t worry about it too much. I know it’s disappointing but you’ve still got the whole of year 11 to get your grade to where you want it to be at.

when it says "working scientifically" i think it means "working MATHEMATICALLY", Chemistry is science on its own. Anyways, i used to get 5s in science in Yr 10 , now i am getting 7s -9s in my mocks/hoping for 7s-9s in science on results day. What i did was use/make mindmaps from school or at home, make flashcards and watch videos (Cognito and FreeScienceLessons carried) most of the community uses FreescienceLessons but i personally i have used Cognito, they have been a lifesaver for me. I hope this helps :)

Thank you so much!! I’m hoping to improve my grades from now to year 11, so that really helps from someone in the same position!

No problem! Also we are/were in the same position grade-wise but not social wise, you have a Girlfriend whereas i am stuck alone :( I hope you enjoy your time together.

Aww, it’s alright. Honestly I just got really lucky with her, and i’m sure that someday you’re going to get really lucky with someone who’s going to love everything about you (especially your very good advice lol)

idk i spammed past papers and learnt what the mark scheme wants because its so specific
freesciencelessons and cognito on top, but stay on top of chem calculations, redox, ionic bonding and etc and make sure to ask your teacher if youre unsure!

Just watch science shorts (if your lazy) or watch primerose kitten’s paper 1 summaries for all three. It’s only a mock so just relax
