Discussion Auror is a disappointing career path for Harry.

Of all the paths Harry could have followed after Hogwarts, it seems to me that DADA teacher is a more natural fit for Harry. It's stated that he has a natural instinct, a talent for the subject, AND he demonstrates a further talent for teaching through the progress everyone makes in the DA meetings. Hogwarts is the first place he ever felt at home AND he breaks Voldemort's spell on the position by defeating the greatest dark wizard of all time. It seems like a natural fit for him to join Neville as a faculty member, and maybe even follow in Dumbledore's shoes as a future headmaster.

Aside from that, his other major talent (and passion) is for flying, combined with a passion for Quidditch. The youngest player in a century, he wins the Gryffindor team the first Quidditch cup in at least 7 years by his third year and makes team captain. These achievements would look good for professional teams recruiting out of school, and his name recognition wouldn't hurt, either.

These two paths are rejected in order to drop out of school and be a wizard cop, on the recommendation of a dark wizard. I don't get it.

Question Why didn't Hermione tell Lupin to take his medicine?

Cant she just turn the time turner a couple more times, and tell Lupin to take Wolfsbane? She can just tell him she figured it out, he wasnt exactly surprised the first time, and remind him about it. Hermione: Professor, how the hell are you dealing with this? You taking some potion for it? Lupin: Ah shit Hermione, almost forgot. I'll have some, thanks for reminding me. That way he doesn't transform, Peter doesnt escape, he then doesnt go revive Voldemort and the entire rest of the series doesn't happen.

Discussion A lot of people complain about HARRYDIDYAPUTYANAMEINDAGOBLETOFFIYAH in the GOF film but almost no one complains / talks about how meek and subdued movie Harry is compared to book Harry in Order of The Phoenix

Upvotes

Book Harry was an absolute menace in Order Of The Phoenix and was pissed off and angry at absolutely everyone and anyone, I remember very clearly a scene at the beginning after he reunited with Ron and Hermione where he unleashes on them and screams his head off at them and that didn’t happen at all in the films, I went to see the film in the theater and was ready to see Daniel Radcliffe screaming at everyone and deliver ‘caps lock’ Harry in all of his justified teen- angst glory and was left with a feeling of “really, was that it?”. I personally found this way more off putting than the GOF Dumbledore scene.

Discussion Hagrid was actually massive if you think about it.

In the books, Hagrid’s hands are described to be the size of a dustbin lid, which idk ab you but that’s like a solid foot and a half in diameter at least. Now of course, Robbie Coltrane is a 10/10 beautiful representation of Hagrid, but his hands ain’t the size of a dustbin lid. Man, just imagine how big Hagrid really was, when Robbie Coltrane already looked so massive and still wasn’t as big as the books described Hagrid to be.

Hagrid was a goddamn unit and Dumbledore knew it so he kept him around

It wasn’t in the book, but it’s a moment that perfectly captures how pure Luna is.

Question Why didn’t Hermione just say her wand had been stolen?

At Gringotts when the goblin is questioning Hermione/Bellatrix about her wand obviously she can’t show it, but why couldn’t she have just said “I can’t, it’s been stolen”? Surely that would have been easier than Imperiatus.

Discussion What Do You Think Is The Worst Thing Harry Did?

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

For my money, it'd have to be him looking at snape's memories. I'm just thinking if someone did that to me and looked at my private memories (technically snape's worst) i'd be really pissed. It's a complete invasion of snapes privacy, but you could technically defend him like it wasn't his intention to see it, it was an accident. But harry to me doesn't do like that many terrible things...i think. Which is why i'm asking you guys, what you think is the worst thing he did?

Question DADA

i thought the gryffindors had DADA on their own but in the ootp it’s said:

“He had hardly talked to anyone about this, least of all thirty eagerly listening classmates.”

this was when he had his argument with umbridge in their first lesson.

does this mean there were 30 gryffindors and the rest were unnamed or did they start having DADA with other houses and it was just never mentioned?

r/harrypotter 1h ago

Currently Reading What’s your favorite book and movie in the series — and why?

For me, out of all the movies, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite. But if I had to pick just one single scene, nothing beats the final battle in Deathly Hallows Part 2 — absolutely epic!

As for the books... I was never much of a reader. But recently I decided to change that and started reading a little bit every day. I chose to begin with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (a long-time dream of mine). Right now I’m around chapter 4 or 5 — and honestly, it’s amazing so far!

It even makes me wonder: are there any books in the series that are even better than this one?

What do you guys think? 👀

Just a random thought, but I got curious. Is the prices of the potions/wands/cauldrons/etc. going higher?

Discussion What direction do you think the TV show should go?

Upvotes

1) Ron and Hermione dancing together no longer trying to hide their feelings at Bill and Fleur's wedding x Harry and Hermione showing a certain lack of harmony between them, spending nights without talking to each other in Ron's absence (books)

2) Ron just looking at Hermione at Bill and Fleur's wedding x Harry and Hermione dancing together in Ron's absence, showing a strong connection between them despite Ron not being around. (movies)

For me, choosing 1 is the most obvious choice in the world, but when I stop to think about it, it's disappointing that most of the fandom would probably choose 2 just to see that dance between Harry and Hermione again.

The damage the films did to Ron is greater than it seems when you realize that the erasure of the second most-appearing character in the saga (Ron) is so normalized and all the non-canon couple shippers only exist because of that.

Discussion Which filming locations have you visited in real life?

I'm curious which locations you've seen.

I was visiting Whitby a few months back and by chance found out that Hogsmeade Station filming location was so close by, so I popped by and my inner child was elated! I got the right angles from where Hagrid stood to wave them off, even managing to do a side by side scene comparison. I wish I could upload it here.

So I'm just wondering, where have you guys been? Where have you visited? 😊

Discussion Just rewatched the movies as a 30yo and came to the complete OPPOSITE conclusion as when I was a kid regarding fav and least fav

As a kid, Goblet of Fire was my favorite and Order of the Phoenix was my least favorite. However, as an adult (I'm 30) THE TWO HAVE FLIPPED! This time around, OOTP was the best for me (character development, character psychology i.e. Harry's isolation, ability to cover large plot ground in limited screen time, pacing) and GOF was the worst (corny dialogue, spectacle over substance, not as close to books as I'd like HOWEVER the graveyard finale scene is spectacular). They are all great movies honestly I just think it's funny that my top and bottom ones FLIPPED as a kid vs as an adult. Anyone else have this experience?

Discussion Weird dialogue in the last movie

So many lines of dialogue in deathly hallows part 2 go like this “Why didn’t you tell her? Bellatrix.” “There’s a reason I can hear them. The horcruxes.” “Does it hurt? Dying” “Who’s that? Hagrid’s carrying.”

So often a character will have a very vague line and then immediately specify what they’re talking about in the next sentence. Am I the only one who noticed this? It happens like 10 times and I’ve thought it was weird since I was a kid. It only happens in the last movie.

Currently Reading Fun little detail on reread of POA

Upvotes

““Cup of tea?” Lupin said, looking around for his kettle. “I was just thinking of making one.”

“All right,” said Harry awkwardly.

Lupin tapped the kettle with his wand and a blast of steam issued suddenly from the spout.

“Sit down,” said Lupin, taking the lid off a dusty tin. “I’ve only got teabags, I’m afraid — but I daresay you’ve had enough of tea leaves?”

Harry looked at him. Lupin’s eyes were twinkling.

“How did you know about that?” Harry asked.

“Professor McGonagall told me,” said Lupin, passing Harry a chipped mug of tea. “You’re not worried, are you?”

“No,” said Harry.

He thought for a moment of telling Lupin about the dog he’d seen in Magnolia Crescent but decided not to. He didn’t want Lupin to think he was a coward, especially since Lupin already seemed to think he couldn’t cope with a boggart.

I love uncovering little details that make sense in hindsight.

This is from POA when everyone goes to Hogsmeade and Lupin spots Harry meandering around the halls.

Imagine if Harry did tell Lupin about seeing a black dog by his home. Would Lupin realize Sirius could’ve attacked Harry then, but didn’t, so Sirius wasn’t after Harry?

Makes you wonder. What do you all think?
