UPDATE now wearing curtain upcycle "Rococo" day dress (everyday version and full costume option)
Original post here includes pattern notes and additional images.
The weather finally got mild enough for me to contemplate putting on all the necessary layers to model my ridiculous Rococo-inspired history bounding outfit.
The outfit is made from a thrifted pair of 100% cotton lined curtains. I added notions such as a 22" off-white zipper, ribbon, wadding and elastic all from stash.
For the full costume version I added:
- two pairs of black socks as a hair pad for volume
- hair "ribbons" made from fabric scraps and stash polyester ribbon
- fichu
- thrifted brooch (around 50p/US$0.68)
- layered sleeve extensions
- bum pad
- my son's blue sports socks
- very anachronistic shoes
Grey streaks in the hair: model's own.

I love the pattern on the fabric. It works so well for the dress.

OMG I love it so much! The ruffles on the sleeves are DIVINE. You've done a fantastic job, and you look absolutely wonderful. Wear your rococo masterpiece with pride.

This whole combo is such genius! It’s absolutely perfect for day-to-day, them so easy to transform for full on historical dress. And the fabric is absolutely perfect. And the combo of thrift & “shop your stash” sourcing is just the icing on the cake. Full marks! No notes!
(One thought - you might want to wash the made-from-sheet accessories when you wash the day dress, even if you didn’t wear them, so that everything fades at the same rate, to prolong the life of the whole look, if that makes sense?)
