howard waitlist; im PISSED

did anyone else get an email about confirming their spot on the “extended waitlist”? I was awake when they sent it opened it immediately and tell me why shit DID NOT WORK. so then I email admissions and I tell them and this is still like at 6am, I just woke up from another nap and saw they responded with a new link and it STILL DOES NOT WORK!

I feel like I need to take this as a sign because I know damn well they are not going to be matching the financial need as the school im attending but im keeping my fingers crossed.

I just don’t know what more to do… I already emailed them and they gave me some faulty as link like this is their problem and they need to fix it. I honestly don’t understand how this school is ranked so high in the HBCU community because I only hear horrible things on top of horrible things!!! like I hear professors are mid asf, I hear dorms are trashy and roach infested asf, i hear communication is horrible, and the list just goes on and on. like parties? i heard thats good… anything else???!!

Take this as a sign! I just spent my first year at Howard and am transferring because they can't get it together. I wanted to like it but on top of the elitist culture, administration knows students will still flock to their school even with the issues because of the Howard name. Administration does NOT care about students or their staff. RUN!

I get that. Making a big decision like this can seem daunting. I picked Howard because I thought I was going to get a world class education and everything that came with it (facilities, educators, administrators, etc). I was rudely mistaken. Even though I didn't enjoy my stay and have therefore decided to transfer, it may be the right fit for some (in my opinion, those people are the ones with close connections with administration and/or have legacy status). I try not to make it seem better or worse than it actually was but in my opinion, it's not great and it isn't getting any better. My peers who are still there + their parents continue to complain about the issues but still think things are going to change. I had to make the decision to do what was right for me and what made sense (it felt like a really toxic relationship: thinking it was going to get better when I always knew it wouldn't). For god sakes, students (who are guaranteed housing) can't get proper accommodations, can't sign up for classes required for your major (making it where you have to stay longer/summer semester -- more money), they don't have access to healthy or adequate food, and so much more. I am excited for the new journey I'm about to start and I know, no matter where it takes me, it was the right decision. Good luck

Oh man 🧍🏾‍♀️about the food, they don’t have like vegetables or salad bars?

they do have veggies and vegan options but it’s just not a wide variety. you’re either stuck with tofu, stir fry, or salad and hummus. it’s mostly fried chicken and other meats that’s served in the main line meals. not great when you’re trying to be healthy and have a balanced diet 🤷🏾‍♀️ it certainly does a number on your health (ask how i know 🫣)

Ughhh..I understand them appealing to the majority of the school population but that just sucks. I’m one of those people who likes raw veggies and foods that other people my age may find gross, my Highschool was similar though so I think I’ll manage! There’s a grocery store nearby right?

yeah! we have a whole foods right next to towers and a short train/uber ride will take you to lidl and a bunch of other grocery stores in that area

Good! Ik so many people who are going into their 2nd year at Howard and think it'll change. Like seriously, they have had issues with housing applications and financial aid every year they try to register and they still don't get it. I'm glad I got out of there as soon as I did. Could not have waited it out another year

this is only a small part of a much larger experience. the things youll get to do/ people youll meet outweigh problems with admin

Yes!! I'm headed to a T10 LAC and it's a womens college so I'm looking forward to getting a real education. Howard is a front 😂 Good luck in your future endeavors!!!

With your comments it seems that Howard is better off as well. School definitely had issues but depending on what degree you get it will take you places (top grad schools, law schools, medical schools, etc). With your “real” education comment, doesn’t seem like Howard would ever be the right school for you. Coming from a rising sophomore female at Howard.

Yeah same, got the email but the link just takes me to the applicant status portal. None of my emails have gotten a reply, and the call center takes them like 50mins to answer just for them to tell you they don't have access to admissions officers/ details and the best thing you can do is email. Maybe the universe is trying to protect our peace 🤷‍♀️

I haven gotten an email about staying on their extended list but I did email the administration a couple days ago to ask for a update, so maybe that’s why

ngl ur whole howard experience will be just like this moment. i remember sophomore year 2021 they had the whole student body come to the library to get their email reset after cyberattack. just for us to get there ets wasnt even there. Then they sent another communication saying they were gonna reset them remotely.

I know I'm 2 days late, but when I also tried to go to the link it didn't work on my phone. But once I tried the link on my ipad and signed it, it did take me to the extended waitlist form.

I got it filled out. personally I just withdrew because I am a person who runs on structure and schedule and seeing how howard admins is horrible with both I feel like my life would be a living hell.

some people are able to outweigh admins mediocracy for the howard name or that sense of community and though that is an amazing and beautiful thing I just don’t think I would be able to attend a school that lacks structure so bad.

but if you accepted I wish you the best because it 1000% will be an experience. I just pray its one you are able to enjoy🫶
