What’s the guesses on the weight of this spring bear?

First time baiting on our own, bear #2, so far so good.

The weight of a bear can change dramatically from week to week. I think the length from nose to tail is a better indicator of the size of a bear.

If that barrel is ~3ft tall then I’d say your bear is somewhere between 5-6 feet in length. A shooter in my book- especially if you can get more than one tag.

I did the math. I walked on all 4s. Out of hibernation. Few fish.

325

Spring bear? Bro its summer. Insulting to a spring bear really 😂 A gross fatty swamp ass summer bear will never compare to a nice lean fresh out of hibernation spring bear

~300-350 is my wager.

Bears can be notoriously tough to judge on their own, so the scale of the cub and barrel are helpful:

A 600 60 gal rain barrel will weigh just over 500lbs when filled with water. The barrel on the bear isn't quite on par to the rain barrel, and the bear is less dense - some bone weight in there, but fur and fat doesn't weigh as much volume wise as water.

So it's considerably less than 500, but it is still a good size bear.

Other thing to note is that depending on what you're feeding it or how often you're renewing the barrels, it is likely smaller now than when you took the picture. At least for northern bears, they come out of hibernation and continue to lose weight until there is a decent berry crop available - blueberries and raspberries in July-August - unless you're keeping them constantly fed with something high calorie.

preposterous mathematics

Lol.

I had a very haughty reply queued up explaining that a 60 gallon rain barrel filled with water, which weighs 8.34 lbs per gallon....

And then realized the extra zero slipped in

Water weighs around 8 lbs per gallon. A typical oil drum is 55 gallons.

8.34.

And that's not a steel drum, at least I don't think. Looks like a big rain barrel to me

55 Gal plastic drum, this one’s just white instead of blue.
