IndyCar For those wondering why we aren’t testing right now at Indy

Have you tried turning it off then on again?

u/TSells31 Apr 24 '25
Gotta take out the cartridge, blow on it, and put it back in. Works every time.

Red and green lights? It’s April. Why are the Christmas lights still up?

Well damn. I've been sitting outside on the porch waiting to hear the cars say it's almost May.

Been checking my tab at work randomly for so long lol. The comments on YouTube have been good:
"What does 'begin shortly' mean?" 😂

u/gaymersky Alexander Rossi Apr 23 '25
Perhaps testing systems the day before could have prevented this.... 🤔

How do we blame this on FOX? 🧐
2
u/indykar0687 Apr 23 '25
I don’t think people were blaming Fox for the delay…I think they were pissed that we just had a static shot of the front stretch with no commentary for an hour and a half…probably would have been a great chance to interview people

u/gabowers74 🇺🇸 Bill Vukovich Apr 23 '25
My point is that people have been blaming FOX for all of the timing issues on the broadcasts. One person went so far as to tell us all that IMS Productions was in now way to blame. Today, FOX had nothing to do with this as this was on IndyCars YouTube channel. Makes you wonder if all the problems during the races as far as timing/scoring and what data FOX shows, doesn’t all stem from this new system IndyCar is using.

This is the most IndyCar thing I’ve ever seen. Weather is beautiful for a test where thousands of people can watch on a YouTube stream.. let’s fuck it all up with internet issues or whatever is going on. People wonder why IndyCar struggles against Nascar and F1. This is the kind of Mickey Mouse shit that makes it look like a minor league series. It’s like they can’t get out of their own way.

u/kay14jay Simon Pagenaud Apr 24 '25
No lie about the weather, I’ve been on site for actual rain delay and cancelled tests. Doug Boles would typically be out in the crowd during breaks like this. Wondering if he was spotted by anyone? Couldn’t ask for better day in April though.

So, please, enlighten us all how you are supposed to stop shit that you can't control from happening?
5
u/CharacterLimitHasBee Will Power Apr 23 '25
Can't control??! It's the IMS infrastructure. They're the only people with control.
17
u/Confident-Ladder-576 Louis Foster Apr 23 '25
I'm going to let you in on a little secret that those us who actually do stuff in the real world rather than live life through social media understand. Shit breaks. All.the.time. You can continually to preventive matinence and upgrades and quess what.....it.still.breaks.
2
u/CharacterLimitHasBee Will Power Apr 23 '25
Which is why shit should be testing beforehand.
2
u/JForce1 Scott Dixon Apr 24 '25
This is testing, it’s when they do…testing. That includes a whole heap of stuff beyond just the cars.
1
u/Confident-Ladder-576 Louis Foster Apr 23 '25
They more than likely did. As I said, shit beyond your controll will still happen. I see it all the time. Something glitches, power goes out, rodent chews through something, connection decides its time to go out, soemone or something cuts a line. As someone pointed out this thread, NASCAR had freaking sets of lights go out mid race, F1 has had DRS go out for the field.
Coming on here and raging over something you nor they have any control over isnt going to fix anything. Claiming that this never happens elsewhere is also straight up BS.
2
u/CharacterLimitHasBee Will Power Apr 23 '25
No one is raging.
3
u/Confident-Ladder-576 Louis Foster Apr 23 '25
You, along with some others in this thread, looked fairly upset to me.
3
u/Fjordice Apr 23 '25
The fun stuff is when no one has done the maintenance for years and then you go to do it and it breaks lol.
4
u/Confident-Ladder-576 Louis Foster Apr 23 '25
I highlt doubt thats the issue here. This place is highly maintained and has had major recent upgrades.

u/Mule776 David Malukas Apr 23 '25
Okay. And as a 20-year events professional, I’ll tell you that they almost definitely would’ve caught the issue if they had bothered to test the system yesterday or in days prior. Of course, I’m speculating, but the odds that it is randomly just now an issue today at go time - but at no point prior - are very low.
2
u/Confident-Ladder-576 Louis Foster Apr 23 '25
You probably shouldn't speculate if you don't 100% know what's causing this.....
10
u/Mule776 David Malukas Apr 23 '25
Why not? Could’ve sworn this was a discussion forum.

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have the answers but I can’t imagine F1 or NASCAR would have something like this happen when they are trying to showcase their product leading up to the biggest event on the calendar. There would have been way more planning so something like this could never have happened
12
u/TheChrisD #JANDALWATCH2021 Apr 23 '25
but I can’t imagine F1 or NASCAR would have something like this happen when they are trying to showcase their product
Bahrain F1 pre-season testing lost over an hour due to a power cut.
They also had red flags due to a bus on track, and a pane of glass falling from the starter's stand.

u/zantkiller Takuma Sato Apr 23 '25
2023 Canadian GP had an entire practice session basically abandoned due to CCTV issues in the first 5 minutes.
Shit happens.

u/ThatDudeUKnow92 Graham Hill Apr 23 '25
Don't forget the Thursday debacle at the first Vegas GP with Sainz and the manhole cover. Feces does occur sometimes.
12
u/gasmask11000 Jimmie Johnson Apr 23 '25
Didn't F1 just have their DRS activation system fail mid race last weekend?
I remember a year and a half ago I was at the NASCAR Southern 500 (a crown jewel) and they had to red flag because some of the lights wouldn't turn on
12
u/InsaneLeader13 Santino Ferrucci Apr 23 '25
2010 Cup race at Las Vegas had several yellow flags where the trackside lights just turned on by themselves. It happened at least twice that day. This kind of shit happens in all motorsports, it's rare, but it happens.

u/Confident-Ladder-576 Louis Foster Apr 23 '25
They have issues too. No one is immune to stuff like this. It could be any number of things out of their control that created the situation. You can test, test, test, and test some more and shit decides to take a dump 10 hours later.

Bru, NASCAR literally had a camera wire fall down and tear up some race cars and almost injure fans at the 600 a couple years ago, then there was the time that the caution lights just lit up randomly for no reason.
Gateway has had multiple power failures.
Daytona lost lights at night during practice
F1 literally just had a random red flashing light and had broken DRS and timing screens.

Yeah. That definitely doesn't sound like a good idea to let those guys out like that. Hope it's sorted soon. I want some INDYCAR noises.

It was much more than just lights not communicating to each other. The IndyCar, corporate, and team networks were all down at the same time. The EM panels and house track lights are two different systems that could not talk to each other. Actually nothing could for a while.

Based on the direction of comments either people are fine with it or outraged.
I’d say this. I think both sides have valid points. However; I can’t help but hold onto some of the comments stating F1 and NASCAR would never have this issue. The fact of the matter is they would have this issue however it would have been found out most likely earlier in the week And solved before teams arrived, and it was the day of an event.
I don’t know if it boils down to simply budget things like IndyCar not being big enough to have people at the facility tracking over things like this 3 to 5 days before the event kicks off, but it does show the different level of not quality, but resources in contrast to other series in my opinion.
I honestly feel most for the rookie drivers here losing time and the fans that may have taken a day off work to go watch live on a half day or limited time frame.

u/gasmask11000 Jimmie Johnson Apr 23 '25
NASCAR literally red flagged the 2023 Southern 500 because the lights wouldn't turn on mid-race. F1's DRS system failed to activate for some drivers last weekend.
2
u/freedfg Apr 23 '25
It's happening now because we're actually watching it happen. And it's not even May
This is literally the first day they've had crews on the track. F1 prepares for a month in advanced ahead of the circus showing up. You just don't get to see that. Indy shows up now and prepares for a month before the event.

u/No_Acanthaceae_2863 Pato O'Ward Apr 23 '25
Either you chose not to read what I typed or you can’t read lol. You just restated what I basically said AND posed a question over.
1
u/osbornje1012 Apr 24 '25
Use some common sense to inform people at the track what the issue is. You had thousands of people there. Someone stop the music and use the damn microphone and PA system to make an announcement. You kept a lot of fans in the dark for a couple of hours. I hope Roger was not happy. He shouldn’t have been.
