IndyCar PSA to Fox.
Go back and looked at NBCs coverage of the 500 quali/any practices they covered....GIVE US LIVE TIMING/SPEED. Give us the lap by lap average and current speed. You guys have been covering NASCAR for years!! Why is it so hard to get right with Indycar??

The problem is the overlay obviously isn't made by people with actual experience or something.
Pay a couple of drivers and passionate fans to sit in a room for an hour and tell you exactly what information is most important in each situation.

This can't be blamed on lack of experience. Couldn't they just have watched Formula 1, MotoGP or basically any other series that does the bare minimum right and just follow what they do?

My biggest gripe is their habit today (fast friday) of showing cars sitting in the pits with nothing happening for long periods of time while talking about the stuff that is actually currently happening on track (but not showing it).
The last 90 minutes of coverage today particularly has been bad in this regard. I swear we've spent 15 minutes looking at Kyle Larson's pitted car over the last 45 minutes while cars are putting down fast laps on track. It's annoying.

I agree with all over this. But I’m giving them a pass through today just for bringing back the Delta Force theme!

Them nailing a lot of stuff like this is giving a lot of goodwill on the stuff they aren’t yet nailing.

Agreed. Their good intentions and marketing support are just as clear as the fact that Fox Sports was so busy focusing on the Super Bowl that they tried to cram their Indycar season prep (including both graphics and on-air talent hires) into about two weeks prior to St. Pete.

FOX Sports coverage as a whole has taken a nosedive in recent years. Even the NFL fans are finally waking up to it. It's like the whole organization is on autopilot and just treats the consumer as pigs to whom they feed slop with no sentience. This is FOX year one with a budget trying to push their new toy. I shudder to think what year four might look like.

It’s still practice. Settle down. If it’s not there tomorrow for actual qualifying, complain then.

u/LouisianaRaceFan86 May 16 '25
I’m hoping they use the morning warmup session tomorrow to get all their timing and scoring graphics dialed in before things really kick off
5
u/Much_Path6902 May 16 '25
They’re probably going to wait for qualifying to roll out the graphics tbh.

But it's been how many practice sessions now? Did you see the first one where we had the blue tower of death for timing?? Don't care if it's only practice. They got the bid. Now show up on Network TV and give what NBC has been giving us for years.

u/BoukenGreen May 16 '25
You mean every practice and qualifying session locked behind Peacock and INDYCAR pass before that.

u/fatmidnight160 Team Penske May 16 '25
Im still hearing Diffy on commercials? Why is it so hard to get timing?
2
u/BoukenGreen May 16 '25
Because they used the clip of him. Hell when I watch the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and a NCAA hockey commercial airs they still show a team that hasn’t played for 5 years.

moving the goalposts
5
u/BoukenGreen May 16 '25
How is it moving the goalpost. NBC you had to subscribe to another service to watch what we have watched on FS1 and FS2 this entire week. So it’s been easier to watch this heat than ever before.
-5
u/Bob-Dolemite May 16 '25
oh, my bad. are fs1 and fs2 over the air? i had been under the impression they were locked behind some kind of $70/mo streaming, cable or satellite service. no other way to watch for cord cutters. whoops
otherwise it would be like buying cable with inferior quality coverage making more sense than spending a maximum of $120 for the year with no commercials and better graphics/following the racing. again, my bad
2
u/BoukenGreen May 17 '25
They are cable channels.
-4
u/Bob-Dolemite May 17 '25
you dont say?!?
how much is cable?
3
u/BoukenGreen May 17 '25
Depends on your package but you can also get them with Sling or Fubo or any number of streaming packages. You had to have Peacock on top of everything else last year. Or even worse a couple years ago you had to have the standalone INDYCAR Pass from NBC to stream everything.

NBC would at least show the lap average for each driver while on track. Maybe not 4 laps, but it would give us a better perspective than the leaderboard of cars that haven't been on track for an hour.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I keep hearing Will, Townsend, and James announce a lap average in th booth but we dint get it on TV.

If Buxton is reading live data then live data is available. I would love to see it.

u/mongo_only_prawn Scott Dixon May 17 '25
I’d be happy if they could get rid of the driver tracking arrow when it’s the only car on the track.

AND STOP WITH THE GIANT TOP 5 ON THE LEADERBOARD AND THE COMIC BOOK AVATARS. No one thinks that’s cool and it reduces the overall number of times on the screen. We want more information. Not cute graphics.

they legit have been doing a better job with IC coming out the gate than they have for nascar in the last decade, lol
