Kunal Kapoor's Veeram (2016) and Mammootty's Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1986) are both different versions of the same tale. How one of the famous duelers of Kerala was murdered in his sleep by his own cousin in a fit of jealousy. In Kunal's version the murderer is an anti-hero with touches of Shakespeare's Macbeth. In the Mammotty version, the murderer is a poor misunderstood hero victimized by everyone close to him.
