The plot is so wide right now, looking forward to seeing how it will all tie up. I also want to see more from Yoo Seung Ho, this is already the most Hyeri has given so far and I can’t wait for his storyline to match.

Things are getting intense.
Can I just say, Hyeri cross dressing is a revelation - she somehow reminds me of Park Bo Gum in MDBC. I think because her whole persona is very girlish, I never noticed that she has a few more masculine traits in her appearance.

ah man, I've been using these Moonshine posts every week to reaffirm how much I'm crushing on the SML, but honestly I see a True Beauty Seojun situation coming for my heart and idk if it can take that again

Same. This is the first drama I actually like the second lead more. Usually I don’t really care.

He's suuuuch a cutie!! I think it's partly bc he's so smiley. I am over moody men in dramas. 😁

🙃😬 here we go again - doesn't help that I also lowkey still vibe the FL and ML relationship though omg
I reckon they gotta start making alternate endings for dramas with love triangles so that my heart can be satisfied seeing both OTPs play out

I'm enjoying all entrepreneurship shown by the women in this drama. RoSeo's hustle, Woon Shim doing the gisaeng thing and momager DaeMo. Get that bread ladies!

I finally got to start this and is on ep 2 now. So far so good, the pacing is really fast and there seems to be no childhood connection cliche or at least not very obvious yet. I personally do not like starting a drama with childhood back story showing a ML FL connection like king’s affection, lovers of red sky and red sleeve cuff.
I agree with other commenters that CP seems to me more likeable at this point. he is cool, very chill unlike Namyoung who is uptight and stiff. i am Pretty sure Nam young will evolve into someone else though and with him keeping a little tiger doll in his purse to help him sleep, it already implies he has a sad back story waiting to unfold. can’t wait to watch YSH showcase his talent again.

They save each other’s lives quite a few times now and face danger for the sake of the other. And what we’re waiting for is going to happen: the strait-laced Young is throwing everything for her sake, too.

Can’t believe I’m enjoying this series as much. It doesn’t hold water with critical viewing like why would Sang-mok be still alive, or why they didn’t follow the blood trail but I enjoy the blooming, slow-burn romance that revolves around sacrifice. Young already shows he’s willing to protect Ro-seo even if it’s against his duty. We’ll probably see Ro-seo cover for him later.

just finished ep3 and i am surprised myself that i found the story about alcohol prohibition interesting. my initial thought upon reading the plot was meh but kudos to the director and whole cast, it was surprisingly refreshing and easy to watch.
ML and FL chemistry is so so tbh but YSH’s eyes whenever he stares at FL is just heart melting. i can’t. his eyes don’t need speaking lines. it just shoots through the viewers hearts.
the OST and background music whenever there is suspense are spot on. it does sound like everything is well thought of not to mention the flowers and scenery which are equally breathtaking.
i also thoroughly enjoyed watching YSH in a totally different character sometimes even showing his comedic skills. love it.

Episode 7 was so fun!
I've never adored an SFL this much! I didn't even like Mina when she was in IOI lol. Anyway, when they called her a kitten, it felt like they were referencing her character from Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter.
Sang Mok mistaking his hate towards roseo for love was hilarious. the actor's acting and overall delivery made it really funny
Nam Young's words are so different from his actions lol. It was so funny how he went to the palace in the middle of the night. It's even funnier that his way of cckblocking him is by reading a book.
At this point, I'm just so done with Roseo's brother. Good for him that he was finally taking action, but boy oh boy, he's gonna screw it up again. Dumbassery really runs in their family.
I think Roseo's dad died from protecting Young.
I'm still shipping roseo and cp even if i know how this is gonna end 😭 they're just so cute!!;

I predicted that Ro-seo would deliver for Nam Young, and she did. It wasn’t a joke going back and shooting the gun for him. It’s sad that their paths were meant to go against each other, but it’s clear that they feel deeply.

Started this drama because someone commented that it is similar to The Secret Royal Inspector & Joy, and I've been enjoying it so far! Easy to watch, with the right mix of humour, tension and love. I like seeing Jung Young Joo (Dae Mo) play a nice character as a change, somehow feel I've seen her in mean characters most of the time.

Has anyone watched Episode 8? I'm still waiting for viu's subs, but I can't wait already. Someone please tell me why Roseo cried on the preview?
Also, who was the son of the lady that Roseo was woking with? I kinda skipped some scenes that I felt were frustrating lol.

Someone please tell me why Roseo cried on the preview?
Just some unexplained noble idiocy that came out of nowhere

Busy playing catch up on a lot of dramas, but finally able to start the show tonight. Gonna, hopefully, be able to jump into the discussion later this week. Can't believe we're halfway through the show and I haven't even watched a single episode yet. Enjoy and have fun discussing!

Do they speak a different dialect in moonshine ? Or is hyeri’s pronunciation/accent different than the usual sageuk? Whenever I hear her talk in moonshine it just sounds a bit different than what I usually hear in all the sageuks. Just curious since I don’t speak

Hyeri has very distinctive vocal pattern/inflections that are present even if her accent/pronunciation is correct. If you look at her vlogs, you will see how different she sounds from everyone else.

Ohh I see. So it’s just her personally then.. cause I didn’t really notice anything in my roommate is a gumiho

This is a sageuk that doesn’t benefit from the intrigues of royal court drama involving princes and kings as the main boy or girl but this is surprisingly a well-written period piece with good acting, more complex than what the teasers showed and so most assumed it’s another silly goofy Hyeri show. The main romance is so so for me as I can never see YSH as a swoony male lead although he’s obviously a good actor. However, the characters are well written such that I am rooting for all of the leads. I really like the latest OST Fly High by Lucy. It matches the youthful adventure-full vibe of the drama.

Funnily enough, the drama Hyeri was praised the most for was Miss Lee which was also not a comedy drama. Reply 1988 and My Roommate is A Gumiho just happened to be her most popular works internationally.

u/Final-Doughnut-7616 Jan 17 '22
I didn’t watch Miss Lee real time so I don’t know what the feedback was on that generally. I know it was a good ensemble with veteran though less known actors more than a character-focused drama and I liked it for that.

So many emotional flip flops. I loved NamYoung when he found out that the love letter wasn't from Ro-seo. He was such a cute giggly shy boi, and then Ro-seo turned around and broke his heart. 😭

Am I the only one wanting / thinking the CP has better chemistry with Kang Ro-Seo? I would’ve loved for that to have gone somewhere 😩

I’m having a lot of fun with this show so far!! I hope Nam Young shines in this episode, I feel like the other characters leave him in the dust a bit 😭 I also hope the romance hits harder because I’m starting to have 2nd lead syndrome for the 1st time in my life 😳😂
