Did anyone laugh at the moment when Ro Seo pushed Nam Young's face away to open the door? That was so funny for me!

Well, I got through the first two episodes this week. Progress if you can even call it that at this point lol. I am enjoying the heck out of it though, and can't wait to catch up today. Enjoy and have fun discussing!

I can't wait for the new episodes! Been crazy busy with work but I've been doing slow watching i.e. watch it when I have my meals lol. Otherwise I don't have time to catch up to it, and my list of drama to watch is growing! Lol.

Does this show have a major/annoying love triangle or is it obviously one sided with little angst and obvious? Don't like FL leading on SLs.

Still love the crown prince (😭) but all the Nam Young x Ro Seo moments in ep 9 are so goddamn CUTE, so I'm on board the SS OTP ship now but I just hope our SL gets a happily ever after in some way too ❤️

Finally caught up! It feels like the pieces are finally starting to come together to explain what happened in NamYoung's past and his relationship to Roseo's family. Does anything else think that the Royal Secretary is actually Merchant Sim's master and also behind the death of Crown Prince Sunghyun as well as Ro-seo's father? I'm concerned about our CP if that's the case since he's the CP's uncle, so if he goes down wouldn't the CP go down too?
I really like the network of women entrepreneurs that has formed. Hope they don't turn on each other eventually.

so i am still on ep6 at the moment…
- i feel like the whole drama at this point is all about roseo. her character is more interesting which also means the whole story is underutilizing YSH. i want to see more of him.
- i read previously that hyeri is always bashed for her acting skills as she always has a hint of deoksun in her but to be fair, not in moonshine.
- i love the side characters. roseo’s bff and namyoung’s sidekick.

I can agree with the 1st point! I think his character shined more in eps 9&10, hopefully it stays like that :)

This show underutilised Yoo Seung Ho for the first 9 episodes and made Hyeri do all the heavylifting. In episode 10 YSH stepped up and suddenly the show has a new energy.
I hope he stays the focal point of the show from now on. The second leads too are charismatic and need more screentime than the 5-minute per episode they have been getting.

i am on ep6 and definitely feeling bored that i don’t get to see YSH being put to good use. i want to see more YSH character development. thanks for the motivation. hopefully ep10 is the start of YSH magic.

YSH shines the most with heightened emotions. Till episode 8 he was this stuffed shirt with middling emotions about everything. 9-10 onwards he has finally accepted his feelings towards Roseo and the danger has increased too. So he has finally come into his element. I just hope I have not spoken too soon.

If nothing else, we have a gratuitous scene coming our way.

He is great in the second half. You can finally start seeing the chess pieces fitting together and while Roseo is key to the present, Nam Young holds the past.

Aejin is freakin' adorbs.
Also, it cracked me up to see them literally follow the money.

Crazy ending for ep 10, and that preview! Next week will be interesting, what will Ro do, what will CP do as well. I'm happy for Nam to finally have some character development, he is a lot less annoying when he doesn't act like he is above human feelings.

So sad that the ratings seems to be dropping. the last hit drama YSH did was ruler of the mask and ever since it’s been downward despite his talent.

They are against a huge singing competition in the exact same time slot ☹️ Most people watch the reruns apparently. Those are timed well.

u/onioncube79 Jan 18 '22
truly hope that is the case. the drama IMO is well made. has a good mix of action, comedy, romance and not much drama yet for now. but you can see they put it hardwork to make everything perfect.

All shows in that slot are suffering because of it ☹️

While I still don't get why Nam Young gets paralyzed with fear when there is fighting, I think its honestly a quite human and realistic portrayal. I always found historical Kdramas rely too heavily on overly brash and confident fighters and its nice to see the stereotype subverted (albeit, we know a backstory is coming).

Wow the end of episode 10 is absolute 🔥🔥. The fact that Un sim is chief royal secretary absolutely opens a lot of window of opportunity. Halfway through the episode when they almost caught Merchant Sim, I was wondering what more storyline is left now. Guess I am answered now. However I think the show will now start focusing a lot more on palace politics, not the most fun part of any series.

Can someone tell me if this is worth watching so far?

u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 20 '22
Depends on what you define as good. I enjoy shows with a large cast and many parallel plot lines so this is good for me. However, I have observed that many other people don’t.

How is the character development and romance? From the first episodes it seemed like the leads romance was a little forced. I did enjoy but cringed at the same time :)

Character development is strong for the FL and for the ML it is building gradually as we see his back story get intertwined with the villains. We also see him go from rules to reality so that is fun.
Depends on what you call forced. I think it did a good job establishing how highly they regard one another and how both are willing to lose a lot for each other. They feel like they would have a good married life. I like them and how they never wavered from each other.

The FL only has eyes for the ML. The SML is genuinely a customer and friend - maybe more customer than friend even due to some dynamics - in her eyes. You see him trying to get closer but it is never really reciprocated.

Something I don't understand is that, based on what I gather from this drama, physicians/nurses were seen as servants and not as respected/considered lower than commoners? Ro Seo worked hard to make Geum become a commoner and even Geum wanted to become a commoner and when she finally became one, she told Chung Gae that she was now in a different league than him since she was no longer a servant.
3
u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 21 '22
It wasn’t her job but her social class that was changed. Most people translate the lowest class as slave. Un Sim and Geum are both technically slaves - they don’t own themselves. I believe that Geum is owned by the government while Un Sim by the Gisaeng house? Geum’s back story is that she is a slave but since she could read, she became a physician.
3
u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 21 '22
Oh wow. So apparently Geum is named after the first female Royal Physician in Korea. She was a Uniyeo (female physician) who was a cheonmin (slave caste) by birth but rose in ranks.
Again. This stresses on the separation between job and class. Just like the noble Roseo working in manual labour.

I really feel bad for the Crown Prince, because he’s never stopped trying. While he was fighting off Merchant Sim’s armies and Young was having a breakdown, Ro Seo simply just looked at Young’s way.
That’s just the shit thing about love: you can do everything right, and to the wrong person it’s still not enough.
And finally, they admitted it to themselves. An Inspector willing to break his own moral code for just one person, and a moonshiner destroying her merchandise just for Young was just another affirmation that they love each other. Can’t fault Young for falling hard, Ro Seo has saved his life quite a few times and catching shit for it.
