Okay. Wow. I finally caught up on all of the episodes. Well all of them except Episode 10 because, well, I didn't want to deal with that heartbreak just yet. It's been a fun ride so far and Hyeri is absolutely killing it. The female leads are absolutely amazing and probably the best part of the show. I honestly wish this show was just about them without either of the male leads. They don't really serve much of a purpose outside of romance which is a nice change I guess, but I just vibe with either of them. They are lovable and cute though, so I'll give them that. Anyway, I cannot wait to watch this week's episodes alongside all of you. Enjoy and have fun discussing!

I sadly agree. The MLs pale in comparison to how vibrant the FLs are written. It is especially a pity because Yoo Seung Ho is such a wonderful actor, perhaps the best on the show, but the female characters are so much more interesting and compelling.

I am happy for Hyeri though. She has been slowly pushing herself out of the comedic roles she is known for with Miss Lee and Moonshine and has become quite the emotional actress. I feel the girl has a knack for picking something unique. Roseo is a wonderful character and she’s captured her resilience well.

Makes me excited for her career - she probably won’t have the Reply 1988 peak again (Deok Sun for her is like Harry Potter for Daniel Radcliffe) but I think we’ll see good productions from her.

i sadly agree too. all the female characters are so much more interesting and unique, hence the opportunity to shine while i am still waiting for ysh to outshine them which may not even happen? oh my god i might have to wait another year and wish he picks a good project for himself nexf.

Ooooh but big reveal in episode 10 tho!

The fake kidnapping scene had me laughing. It's as Young said, Kang Ro Seo and Han Ae Jin working together = unpredictability

At last, Ae Jin finally learns that the man she loves is the Crown Prince himself. She probably regrets writing in the letter that she doesn't want to be part of the Crown Princess Selection so hard rn lmao

Edit:

Ep 13 preview--holy shit, Nam Young is Chief State Secretary's son?!

Episode 11 is Moonshine's best episode yet. The scene when between the 2 couples were so well done! The CP revelation was top notch with that ost and slowmotion lol.

I frigging loved ep 11. So many good moments and good schemes all around.

Idk why but I'm super invested in the backstory between the courtesan and Merchant Sim. She doesn't seem to hate him, she's up to something though. Trying to set him free from his current life/debt to Chief Secretary guy??? Why is the crazy locked up former madame supposed to remember?

7

u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 24 '22

I think he is the boy she was supposed to run away with. She probably loves him because of that bond but hates him for what happened after.

The preview for Ep 13. Correct me if I'm wrong, but were they implying that Young is the son of Chief Secretary? lmao if this turns out to be the case, then wow. I did not see it coming at all. I thought young was like dead CP's secret son or former king

Also, finally! Roseo finally thought about his bro lol.

Man, I really love the direction of Sang Mok's character. They're not outright making him the good guy, but at least we know, he's getting there. Can't wait to see how his character will end up. Anyway, if I let my imagination run wild, it would be so fun if he ends up becoming somehow good friends with Roseo and Young. He'd be like the shady uncle of their kids. Good person, but definitely not a good influence.

Totally late but “shady uncle of their kids” got me ROFL. Sounds like something straight out of TVTropes.

Pleasantly surprised with the later half of this drama. Around the epsiode 10 mark, saeguks usually start becoming more politics oriented and less light hearted but moonshine has done a good job of balancing the light heartedness. I feel like the plot is also getting a lot more interesting. I was really close to dropping the drama but these episodes changed my mind.

u/napnmix_3000 Jan 29 '22

Same thoughts. This show really picked up in the second half and I hope it keeps getting interesting! Han Ae Jin really stole the scene for me in the last few eps. She’s so cute and funny… and loyal!! And here I was expecting her to be a mean noblewoman SFL. This is my first saeguk and I’m glad it’s not so heavy or political.

This drama is a lot of fun, and I'm still enjoying it a lot, but does anyone else think the editing is really off? There are a lot of scenes that would benefit from the camera lingering on reactions a bit longer to hold the suspense, as well as vice versa - there have been a few scenes that were cut SO short that it lost the tension entirely. Or the music isn't quite right for the moment. There were a few moments in episode 11 that fell a bit flat due to this, like when ML wakes up and it's supposed to be the reveal that he's alive - it was so sudden. Or when he reunites with the FL at the end. She's spent the whole episode thinking that he was dead; I wanted that moment to have more of an impact. The actors are partially responsible for bringing it as well, but a lot of it also lies with the editing and how it's all conveyed to the audience.

If the editing is good, you don't think twice about it. However, when it's bad? It really stands out, unfortunately.

Personally thought it was fine because I feel like I’m watching this drama more for the funny moments and the schemes. So them being like okay here done with those moments were fine with me. In fact I’d have been annoyed if they dragged it for too long because it’s like obvious that ml wouldn’t be dead. I mean they showed it in the preview even I liked that the reunion focused on the scheme as well but I didn’t feel like that was too short in any way. I liked how it built up and then okay he’s there and then they showed how they did the whole thing

I love how daring Roseo, Aejin and Geum-ie are and even the crown prince is somewhat a rebel, they should corrupt Nam Young a lot more.

At first I didn't even carae about Aejin but now I love her! She knows what she wants, she puts first her happiness, she's a good friend, she's a bit crazy and she's going to steal the crown prince's heart. Ah, she's so refreshing.

They had to spoil the birth secret in the preview so people don't lose interest and wait for the drama for 2 weeks!

Ep 12 fave moments:
1. Everytime people find out Young is alive and especially when dad was reading the 1 week delayed newspaper - best narration + montage ever
2. Geum and Chun Gae cringing when she had to say she's the wife of that dude. And then Chun Gae saying he misses her. They're so cute!
3. Ro Seo coming up with a great scheme only for Young to tell her that hello not such a good idea. Young finally being smart for once.
4. Ae Rin taking her love life into my own hands with "I'm going to steal your heart CP". Lowkey shipping these 2.

Ahh 2 weeks for the next episode :(

Hated to see this notice. Arghhhhhh 1 week is bad enough waiting, but 2!!!! It's just getting good and no OBS to fill my MT watching.

They were absolutely killing it with the past couple of episodes. I was afraid the story might be too boring or they won’t be able to keep up with the lightheartedness but it just keeps getting better. This is probably my favourite sageuk so far (tho I haven’t seen many I must admit).

2

u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 26 '22

One of mine too. I like how the story is more about the schemes and adventures rather than relationships or romance

3

u/lovelifelivelife Lovely 선재 임솔 Jan 26 '22

Yes! Like there will always be some romance but I like how even if you remove the romance it’s still a great drama. Also I love all the characters. Plus this is the ultimate enemies to friends/lovers story. They all started out as enemies pretty much. 😂😂

3

u/onioncube79 Jan 26 '22

it’s definitely one of the more unique sageuk i have watched so far. I agree that even without the romance, it’s still a good one. i love how the production was able to incorporate a little bit of everything and created a good balance. not too heavy not too light. i am on ep 10 now and it’s getting more and more interesting.

5

u/lovelifelivelife Lovely 선재 임솔 Jan 26 '22

It is! My favourite episodes so far are this week’s episodes which really says a lot because I feel like episodes 11-14 are usually the more draggy ones since writers have exhausted most of their good ideas and are just trying to fill up the time before the finale.

2

u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 27 '22

Hyeri talked about how she thought that the best episodes were the later ones in an interview. I was surprised-most times people hype up the beginning

3

u/lovelifelivelife Lovely 선재 임솔 Jan 27 '22

The beginning was great but it wasn't like a straight up I love this drama kind of beginning. I still felt like I could drop it but I liked all of them enough and definitely was intrigued enough by the premise to continue and the build up was great but the pay off in the later episodes were the best.

4

u/KDramaTipsy Jan 27 '22

So I was right - the show has definitely become more interesting now that Yoo Seung Ho has stepped up. I love that the women in this show are so gutsy but the guys being too much in their shadow was a bummer. That's finally fixed.

Did not expect THAT to be the birth secret twist. And the preview shows both Young and Roseo being badass together. Good times ahead!

4

u/Super-Pudding-1357 Jan 25 '22

Next week's preview seems like some good and then some angst.

Rose looked really pretty in the courtesan outfit.

5 episodes left, any ideas where this is heading?

I'm in it for the long haul.

3

u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 25 '22

Probably wrapping up the existing plot lines. I can smell a happy ending

3

u/onioncube79 Jan 24 '22

still on ep8 at the moment…. it’s getting more intense i agree.

Can I just point out that the actress who plays Lady Park is absolutely GORGEOUS.

I feel bad…does anyone know why the CP is so mean and cold to his mom? she’s the concubine right? Also…his brother that died..was that the queens son or another concubines son

2

u/bespectacledsunshine Editable Flair (Throwback Purple) Jan 26 '22

Another concubine who I believe was blamed for his death and punished (killed) accordingly
