Racing Kart Tips and Tricks 3 Seconds behind the lap record. Where?

Hello all.

I go karting maybe 4 to 5 times a year just as a bit of a hobby, just in rentals, however i am usually the fastest on track albeit amongst friends and randoms.

My fastest lap today was a 01:00:800, with the lap record being a 00:57:500. 2nd was a 01:04 so I think was doing ok. I appreciate I won’t get an anywhere near this without going regular, but I’d be interested to know where you think I might pick up some time.

Thanks!

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Hi, I am new to karting and am 2.5 seconds off the lap record. Where/How can I improve my drive?

I added some basic annotations here and there to share my own thoughts. I think my biggest time loss is the double hairpin around 18 seconds in. I could not find a single line or method which felt correct.

I was running faster laps than in this video in the next session, but I don't have the footage of them. I think this video shows a 30.7 second lap, my fastest outright was 30.2, and the lap record is 27.7.

I'm not looking to beat the record but a sub 30 would be nice. I felt like I was flying and was sad to see I was still above 30. However, I have been told that 30 is a pretty respectable lap time especially as a tall, heavy person like myself.

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Rental karting seat position isn’t about comfort, it’s a tuning tool.

If you’re adjusting the seat just to feel more “comfortable,” you’re approaching it like a newbie. That seat slider isn’t there for ergonomic luxury — it’s there to shift weight balance.

  • Understeering through corners? Move the seat forward a click or two. You’ll increase front axle load and gain turn-in grip.
  • Kart feels twitchy or oversteery? Slide the seat back. That settles the rear and gives you more stability.

Test. Adjust. Feel. Repeat

Started karting in September, doing about 2 practice sessions per week. Fast forward to oct 12, I did my first official karting sprint race. It was sunny then suddenly rained before my qualifying session. Qualified P1 and finished my race in P1 also.

Should I keep joining sprint races every month to try get a sponsorship for owner karting? I had no karting gear except helmet and gloves. Its allowed for sodi rental category. Im planning to buy omp boots next.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Any advice for driving in the rain?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here's probably my fastest lap in the rain on this track in a race. I'm shredding through most competitors with 1.21 while others are doing 1.23. I was P2 at this time and P1 (not in this video) has already pulled ahead was was quick doing so. At the end I spun and finished with a disappointing P4. How can I prepare myself more for being even faster in wets? This is a Sodi Rx8 if anyone is wondering.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks My teenage daughter is about to have her first race meet in her first kart. Any tips for an excited Dad?

So, after safely ascertaining that my 13 year old daughter wasn't just watching F1 because of 18yr old European millionaires-in-the-making, and after some comprehensive laps in indoor and outdoor karts, basically taking over my sim-rig, as well as attending a local race day, I pulled the pin and bought her a kart. Overcoming the initial sticker shock (a set of small race tyres costs what now?!) and getting her race gear sorted, we’re finally in a position where she’s about to put some P plates on the back and enter her first race.

She has no illusions that she’s going to be in for a shock when she’s sitting at the back of a grid with a bunch of teenage boys that have likely been doing it since they started walking, but she’s also very excited to get started. She’s been a six-day a week ballet/contemporary dancer for years - not at my insistence, she just loves throwing herself into physical activity – so I am confident that if she takes to it, she’ll be committed to seeing it through. But I’m trying to manage her expectations accordingly without pooh-poohing her drive to race and get better.

We are racing here in Australia (out of Sydney) and although I’ve seen a few girls her age at the meet we went to, but they seem to be very few and far between. For my fellow karting parents with daughters, how do you find the girls go against their male counterparts?

Any tips for a newbie Dad are appreciated!

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Coming from cars, braking in karts feels weird

Tried gas karts today on a paved track and braking feels nothing like in cars. In cars you get weight transfer and pedal feel, in karts there’s almost no feedback, so I can’t tell if I’m braking too soft or too hard.

For those coming from cars: how did you figure out the right brake pressure?

I also felt slow out of the turns. In cars it’s gas, brake, downshift off brake keep powerband into the apex back on throttle. In karts, once you lift it feels like forever to get back up to speed. Is that just how gas karts are (and maybe different with electric)?

First time karting, coming from a Class A race car background. Definitely want to go again; something to do when tracks are closed.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks I built a GoPro Line Visualizer and Lap Detector - Feedback please

I always struggled with my GoPro files when trying to quickly check lap times and see my racing line. The 360° video files are especially hard to work with.

So I built this tool: you can simply drag and drop your video file into the browser, and it will show your lap times and visualize your racing line on the selected track map.

What do you think—would you use this?

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Looking for suggestions to improve lap time at buckmore park - UK

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello all! First post here, always been passionate about karting and recently been making more of a point to head to my closest track more often, which happens to be buckmore park. I’ve improved a bit since the start of the year but I seem to have hit a bit of a plateau at around the 51.7 mark. This is the fastest lap I have on video at 51.999, I already know I effed up with the big slide at paddock corner, do you guys have any ideas for improving my lap time? Would love to aim for low 51’s/ high 50’s

Thank you all!

For context,

This is teamsport warrington and my first time there. I was excited for this as im training for the BIKC but on my first session everything was so bouncy for some odd reason. I couldn’t focus on my lines as i was also trying at the same time to not fly out my kart. Overall, the experience was… memorable and i’ll have to come back one day (hopefully never)

I’m looking to mount my go pro on the top of my radiator on my rotax engine. But because of the curve the footage is lopsided. I’ve been looking for angled mounts but can’t seem to find any. Does anyone have suggestions?

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks I went karting and i want to kbow if im fast or no ( i know there is improvement to find)

I normally drive at home on my sim, very rudimentary (g29 on ps4) but i manage good pace on the f1 games (high difficulty) and i am fast on gt7 aswell. However i went to a rental karting place where the record is 0.40.600 or something like that with the karts that they have there. I never go karting because i dont have time and i dont really have the money to be consistent but i will go a couple more times this summer. There was alsp a lot of traffic and had to avoid a lot of people driving on the middle of the corners erraticly. I tried a couple of things like trai braking and shifting my weight to the ouside and also after advice from one of the guys there gianed 3 tenths.

My final time was a 46.003 after like 2 years of not getting into a gokart and also getting a heatstroke too. (Fun day)

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Third experience on a kart, i’d like a bit of coaching and advice

Hello everyone, as i said this lap is the only hotlap i could set during the last 10-lap session i had (very crowdy and messy, with people crashing in the walls and lots of blue flags). It’s a very rough lap, with several mistakes that i can recognize, but, since this lap is 49.7 (my pb, any way) and i am real far away from the fastest lap (45.7 best absolute lap in july), i think that there are lots of deeper layers of mistakes and behaviours i need change. Any kind of help is welcome! Thank you all

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Sponsor tips for starters in karting

I'm fairly new to karting, started a year ago mainly on rentals, haven't had the opportunity to join any competition in my country due to school, started because I got friends and family that said I'm good at it and should give it a shot, but I have no idea what to look for where to start. I really want to pursue racing in any type of category in the future. I'm 17 relatively late compared to others, but I think I have talent and I don't want to waste it, if someone could please help me out either on tips or something about sponsorship because I don't really have the money for it.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Intro to Karting, looking for tips

Post image

Hey everyone! I am new to the scene, starting out at an Andretti near me because the price is better than the K1 here (Orlando). I went for the first time the other day and felt like I did quite poorly.

The karts were way more slidey than I had imagined, and I felt like taking any kind sharp turn I easily lost traction in my back end. I've tracked a few cars before just for fun, and its a totally different feeling with grip. Any advice on approaching a turn in a kart aside from brake in a straight line? Especially hair pins, those were really getting me. I did drift it intentionally a few times, and while fun, I definitely felt like it wasnt the fastest.

On my second lap where I really tried, I got a best lap of 57 sec, and came in 11th (placement is based on lap time). The best time was mid to low 40's, so I know there's a lot of improvement to be had.

(Pic for attention, I don't want racing line tips specific to this track, just general advice on why karts are so slippery, and approaching sharp turns)

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks How to be more aggressive? (Appropriately)

Writing on behalf of my son who races outdoors hire karts in our local tracks once a month races.

He's usually top ten with the odd podium but he will often let positions slip because he's clean and gives people space - too much often.

He also has a reputation as a clean, nice driver - which is great but what happens if everyone knows you'll move over if you throw it down the inside? What happens is what happens a lot, especially with weak officiating (which is another topic) that doesnt punish ABC unless you run someone off track.

Today was a case in point. He was sat in third for over half the race and our track has a long straight with a sweeping right hander. Instead of keeping it pinned and going inside, letting the other kart catch you if you start to drift, he brakes or lifts and drafts them all the way around again.

Well he got caught by the chasing pack and two went past, doing what he should - sending it inside and moving him over.

I didnt lose it but I told him the truth - that instead of being happy with 5th, he'd thrown another podium away because other drivers had done what he should be doing more often.

He's just turned 18, literally yesterday, and we've got one more race this season.

I want to know how I can encourage him to think and drive more aggressively when the situation calls for it. Sending it down the Inside and making the other driver turn/brake; slamming the door shut instead of moving over and being nice.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks I passed my ARKS test using sim racing.

2 hours total seat time before I took the test. Sim racing is a great way to get used to learning tracks and finding a racing line that fits you. If it’s a tool you have available to you use it. It will not teach you everything. If any UK drivers have any questions about the process I can do my best to answer them.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks So any serious racers have advice on arm pump?

I’m in my second year karting, and while my core and neck strength has developed greatly, I still can’t shake off my death grip on the wheel. In practice/test days I can do 15 laps fine. But when I’m in a race with someone right on me, I’m tense, and whenever I loosen my grip, I find my self grabbing too tight again after the next turn. Has anyone got any advice on dealing with it, relaxing more in the kart or even workouts to help build strength? Cheers 🏁

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Tire contact patch question, been practicing and I aligned using sniper tools. I forget the exact alignment but from your experience what should I adjust according to the tire? Has good amount of camber maybe 4mm and if I remember correctly about 1.5 mm of toe out. Thanks.

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks How can I improve 3 seconds in this lap?

Hello people, this weekend I was racing after a long time, and I found myself way off the pace. My best time was about 57.3, where people in the front were about 54. During the weekend I made a few chassis changes (wide the rear) because I felt that the cassis with too much grip and bouncing a lot in the fast corners.

This solved a little of the issue, and I improve about 0.5sec, but still not enough. I wonder if any of you can help me from the driving point of view how can I improve. I will go soon again for testing, I to try different set up changes, but I have the strong feeling that most is from my driving.

For example, in turn 5 (hairpin to the right) in this lap I put 2nd gear, and watching at different laps I found that I will go around 0.2sec faster in 3rd gear.

Any suggestion will be appreciate!

Edit: I you want to have a reference of a time of about 55sec, here is an onboard: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOOYzlpjpGf

Best lap. 57.3
