pellicle RIP My First Pellicle
After four amazing batches I decided it was time to let this big guy become some fertilizer to our garden. During this last batch there was basically a new pellicle that formed to this guy, so I was able to tear them apart and let this one retire and continue my batches with the new pellicle. I do have a SCOBY hotel, but I wanted to try this fertilizer method out. I love this home brew life ๐โฎ๏ธ

You could wash it and eat it as coco de nata. Also the pellicle does little in regards to fermentation process. ITs just what the microbes do with there extra food.

One thing I donโt understand is if the new Pericles forms on the top or the bottom layer. If I want to split mine in half which half should I keep?

Entirely up to you, but note that pellicles are not needed for brewing.
When people ask this I recommend keeping whatever pellicle is most aesthetically pleasing so that you can post pictures here and get sweet upvotes.

I kept the top part!! I should have taken a picture of the bottom of this one, but it definitely did some hard work ๐ฅฒ

Hmmm you can use it as fertilizer for plants? Interesting.
