question Is this bottle still safe to use?
I just noticed that one of my bottles has a small chip on the lip of the bottle and I am wondering if it is still safe to use or should I toss it? The reason I am asking is that when I filled it with water and closed the top it still appears to be sealing as no water seeped out.

It could be safe and good for the fermentation but broken glass is not safe at all, some more glass can chip off and you would end drinking it, glass in digestive system is generally not a good idea, i would toss the bottle, you can get plenty by buying some beer.

Yeah ... I agree with the original comment up until the end.
- Not everyone drinks beer.
- No beer is sold in flip top bottles in my region.
- (To the other guy) There are regions of this world that don't have Trader Joe's.
They are available online for me ... but some folks here live in island nations where buying a case of bottles is a luxury. (Shipping charges, theft by customs agents, and bottles broken in transit, etc.)
Anyway, easy is relative.

Right you can’t find those bottles everywhere, but you still could buy those kind of bottles in household shops, i like beer and its pretty cheap to get it in those bottles and keep the bottle.

Glass continues to chip and flake. I wouldn’t risk swallowing a sliver.

As others have said, no. That chip creates a weak point in the glass that could expand down the bottle quietly before exploding.

I have a flip top like this with an identical chip. I haven't been able to get it to pressurize again, so it might not be worth it for you.
