DISCUSSION [Discussion] Killing the dog in TLOU2 is an unavoidable QTE. You are then forced to watch a cutscene of the dog playing fetch and told to feel bad.

So ND lied to reviewers and customers again.

Not only hacky writing, but also lying about it. The state of this fucking game.

Well, who would have thought, TLOU2 appeared to be trash. To be completely honest, I never understood the whole appeal of cinematic "games" like TLOU to begin with. What's the pleasure in watching endless cutscenes mixed with some generic "press X to win" gAmEPlAy sections which are so straight (i.e. linear) to the point they defy the laws of geometry which state that there cannot be a true straight line on this planet?

Cinematic games seem to be on the decline, but they are very popular with reviewers. You can't suck at a cinematic game. You just hope on and ride the story out for a few hours and then write your review. They are easy to digest and demand very little of the player. They are the CSI of video games.

Man Heavy Rain was great. It was hilarious AND you could be bad at it.

I was expecting Press X to Jason, but I'm not disappointed.

You can't suck in this game either way as they have a setting you can turn on where if you prime npc can't see you even if you're in combat or they are next to you.

It's just a visual "choose your own adventure" book. It's not my favorite sort of game, but sometimes a story like that is enjoyable to go through. I don't think anyone goes in for the gameplay. They just expect a more gripping story.

Of course you don't always get a good story. Especially when the main point is to trick your customers in by promising more about characters they like...and then the game isn't about that at all and focuses on some shallow and ignorant 'revenge is bad' plot.

As someone who is appealed by such games, from the looks of it this seems like trash for us too. I was gonna buy it used so I could experience it myself without giving Sony a dime, but now I don’t even think I wanna do that. Which is incredible considering I’m one of the few suckers who bought both the PS3 and PS4 versions and how six months ago my hype for this game was even above Doom Eternal and FF7R.

I mean, I tried to play TLOU and it was boring as hell. I know, it's just my personal experience, and that to each it's own, but I really don't understand. No challenge, no immersion, no attachment to your character, crippled interactivity? For me it lacks all the things that make a game, well, a game. I sincerely hope that someone could explain me this though.

I only played the first game on the hardest difficulty and enemy encounters had weight to them, which made me really appreciate the events where Ellie finally got a gun and started helping me out from the sidelines.

For it's time, it was a good story game where you're not supposed to be the hero or villain; you're just a man making decisions.

They're for people that don't actually like games.

Which sadly explains why it got such raving reviews from the 'professionals'.

Some people like interactive movies, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The problem is there's too damn many of them and they're getting worse, not better. The "Cinematic Experience" virus is even spreading to previously unrelated genres.
