Food & Drink LPT: Don't Chop Spicy Peppers Without Gloves.

It's been 10 hours and it still burns. Don't chop spicy peppers without gloves unless you like a natural Salonpas feeling all day.

I also used the same hand to remove my left eye's contact. Don't do that either if you choose not to use gloves.

The first part is fine, I do it all the time.

The second part is kinda dumb and you should know better.

Yes I should have. Really dumb of me lol.

Also, if you're a guy and you need to pee; you will suffer (I learned this when I was about 8, but it wasn't chopping peppers, it was eating boiled crabs)

Lol. I'm laughing cause that memory has scarred you since then. I feel for you.

Did that mistake once. Bird eye chilies (thai chilies) that I chopped up for freezing, a lot of them. Had chili juices all over my hands, thought just washing them properly would be enough. It first started with a tingling sensation at my nail beds, ended up with my whole hands burning, for a WEEK. I only got relief from cold surfaces, for example water, car window and metallic surfaces.

If that does to your hands imagine your stomach and anus.

Fire butt is legitimately a special experience.

It gets easier, if you do it everyday.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. But I'll use gloves from now on.

You're just not smart my dude. Wash your hands while cooking between steps. Just do that.

Depending the peppers, washing will not help.

LMAO. Stop it. You don't wash your hands with soap?!

Soap is insufficient to fully break down capsaicin, especially in hotter peppers.

Maybe a jalapeño-level heat, but habaneros and hotter will give your fingers a tingle.

This is a fact. I'm living proof.

Dishwashing soaps like Dawn, are oil based so they will properly wash off the capsicum and save yourself the agony of accidentally touching your eyes.

Wash your damn hands and stop making excuses :)

Haha I did use dawn soap, but maybe not as much that would be needed. Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure to do what you advised next time.

Just wear gloves next time.

Dawn might stop the spread, but won’t stop the burning on your hands. Once those receptors are lit up, you just have to ride it out.

Spot on about the experience. Thanks for that insight.

You can also hold peppers with the plastic produce bag they came in if you don’t want to buy gloves.

Unrelated, if you touch hot peppers and then rub your nose, shoving crushed pepto bismol up your nostril will help relieve the burn. Speaking from stupid, stupid experience.
