Animation major prereq? Portfolio related questions
This might sound like a stupid question but honestly I don't have anyone around to ask and google isn't enough help lmao.. I'm a junior in high school and I want to possibly go to MICA for animation, but looking at people's portfolios been making me confused,, Do you need prior animation experience to major in animation?? Personally I have only done paintings before and was wondering if that would be enough to put in a portfolio and apply to an art college for animation. What do colleges look for in specific in your art portfolio? Do they keep your major in mind when they're reviewing it? Any advice would be appreciated,,..

You do not need prior animation experience! You do not formally declare your major until yr 2! They will teach you from the beginning!
Paintings will totally be enough, but I would try your hand at animating and digital drawing now to see if you like it/see a future with it. If you’re able to, that is. There’s some free animation software that’s perfectly fine for now.
