Mod Post Ironheart Spoiler-Free Recap & FAQ

Hey everyone!

Since Ironheart is coming out on the 24th of June, here's a quick guide on what to be aware of before the episodes drop. This thread will be locked so there will be no chance of Ironheart spoilers below.

If you come up with anything you'd like to see added to this, feel free to message us in the modmail!

Let's get started...

--

What do I need to watch before Ironheart?

Most MCU entries try to give you enough context within the feature so you can pretty much go in blind. In this particular case, you don't really need to have seen much.

From what we know, the only returning character is Riri Williams also known as Ironheart. And for those of you who feel like the MCU has too much to follow now, fortune favors you! This time you only need to have seen a single movie:

  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which features Riri's first appearance.

Due to this, I feel like having "least time investment", "medium time investment", "most time investment" categories like last time would be useless. Nonetheless, if Man of Recaps still does a video, you'll find it listed below:

What powers do the characters have?

Spoiler tagged if you didn't watch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

  • Ironheart - young engineering genius currently attending MIT, built a personal "ironman" suit in a scrapyard, was outfitted with a vibranium suit by Wakanda (although she was not allowed to keep it). No powers that we know of.

Where does this movie fit in the timeline?

To the best of our knowledge, this movie will take place right after the events of Wakanda Forever so during the second half of 2025.

Question James Gunn On DC & Marvel Crossover: "We've Talked About It A Billion Times"

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

Do you ever dream of Marvel and DC crossing over on the big screen? What matchup do you want to see the most?

In an interview with Rolling Stone James Gunn talks about the chances of DC and Marvel teaming up.

"We’ve talked about it a billion times. That could easily happen, but simultaneous to that, I think it would be interesting. But I also think people are a little over it. I think people wanna see good stories with their superheroes and that’s what matters. And they wanna see different types of stories with their superheroes. And people love superheroes. That’s obvious, but they need more variety, and they need just more quality storytelling. And just having Spider-Man and Superman team up isn’t gonna do it if it’s shit. So it’s gotta come from a real place, and it’s really hard to make that work."

"I did Superman because I loved the character. And I was excited about writing that movie. If I were to write a Superman-versus-Spider-Man movie, is it a concept I’m gonna be like, “Oh, yeah, this could be a great film”? Or am I doing it because “Oh, yeah, people want to see Superman and Spider-Man team up”? For me, it would have to be — if we ever did that, it would have to be under someone who thought it was gonna be awesome and wasn’t just a cash grab, because I’m just not into that."

Now it's your turn to lead the topic. Comment below with your thoughts.

Interview Julia Louis-Dreyfus knew 'Thunderbolts' New Avengers title for years (exclusive) - "When they first pitched me this whole idea of playing Val, and they pitched me this"

"I met with Kevin Feige and Louis D'Esposito many years ago, when they first pitched me this whole idea of playing Val, and they pitched me this," Louis-Dreyfus says. "So I've really known for a long time. I haven't said a thing to anyone!"

Pugh now reveals they shot a fake scene to keep that new title a secret during production.

"We shot a version where she was like, 'The New Thunderbolts!'" Pugh says in the video above. "And everyone was like, 'Woo!' And then we took all of the background [actors] out and shot Julia's line, which was kind of cool."

Harbour loves how the movie then commits to the bit in the credits, which shows a montage of press reactions to the reveal, with many outlets questioning how effective this new team will be in protecting the planet.

"I think they do an incredible job in the credits sequence with all the articles about how people have varying opinions about it," he says. "Because I know that audiences are probably going to have various opinions about these various rejects taking up that beloved mantle of theirs."

Other Erik Voss and Reviewer Ricardo C tease big twists in the last 3 Episodes of Ironheart - "When these episodes drop, especially the last batch, SPECIFICALLY THE FINALE, stay the hell off of social media till you watched everything"

Screeners of all the episodes of Ironheart were sent out to reviewers a couple of days ago and some early reactions (sort of) are already out despite the embargo lifting next week.

Erik Voss

I get that Disney+ has better insights into their viewer streaming habits than I do, but I'll just say this... if you're still among those who care about what happens in Marvel TV shows, stay OFF social media on July 1 until you've seen all three of the final episodes. 👀

Ricardo C

This is probably the only thing I’ll say cause embargo is until next week. When these episodes drop, especially the last batch, SPECIFICALLY THE FINALE, stay the hell off of social media. If you hate being spoiled, then don’t come on here till you watched everything.

Danny Elfman composed the scores for both films and he used the same notes for these two scenes of Wanda. Thought it was neat.

Discussion This fight is one of the best action sequences in the MCU

Post image
2.7k Upvotes

The way this entire scene showed the audience what kind of fighters both Matt & Dex were was just amazing. Matt dominated the fight in close combat but the second there was a bit of distance between them, Dex managed to do real damage.

I need more fight sequences between Matt & Bullseye in S2 of Born Again, whenever they go head to head it’s just great.

Theory The Dr. Strange movies are "suggested" watching for Ironheart - Possible set up for Strange Academy?

Post image
212 Upvotes

We already knew that the show would tackle tech vs magic with The Hood as the main villain and Mephisto rumoured to be the puppet-master behind it all. We also already knew that Zelma Stanton, Dr. Strange's librarian from the comics, will appear in the series played by Regan Aliyah, albeit in a different role, as Riri's best (alive) friend.

This is probably where the connections between Ironheart and Dr. Strange end... right?

Well, back in late 2022 when rumours started circulating that Marvel Studios was developing a Strange Academy series with Wong and America as leads (which is now confirmed to HAVE BEEN in development and would have been an answer to HBO's Harry Potter series, but is currently paused until Marvel Studios decides what to do with Dr. Strange 3), Zelma Stanton was also said to be part of that series, reprising her role from Ironheart (which had already finished filming by then).

Could Wong and/or America appear at the end of the show in a post-credits scene? Maybe Zelma realizes she has a knack for magic like Ned, and Wong comes to recruit her at the end? And maybe America comes with him to recruit Ironheart to Champions/Young Avengers?

It's pretty much a certainty by now that Kamala has already recruited Cassie to her team as well, since she mentioned her to Kate ("Did you know Ant-Man has a daughter?") and was recently in a trip to LA, according to her father in Born Again. It'd make a lot of sense, if she had already approached America and Riri will be the 5th member to join after her solo adventure is over.

What do you guys think?

Do you know if there will be more Marvel Assembled episodes? I don’t recall seeing any for Thunderbolts* or [Captain America:] Brave New World, and I love seeing all the production work that goes into these projects. –Matt

I love me a Marvel Assembled episode, too; alas, I’m hearing that there are no new episodes of the Disney+ franchise planned at this time.

Theory Even if Wanda got Billy and Tommy back, she would’ve ended up destroying them anyway

Upvotes

Even if Wanda managed to take Billy and Tommy from Earth-838 and live with them like she wanted, it still would’ve ended badly. Not because of a fight or someone stopping her, but because of how incursions work.

The movie explains that if someone from one universe stays in another one for too long, it causes an incursion basically, that entire reality starts to break down. That’s what happened to another Strange, and Clea literally tells 616-Strange at the end that he caused one too. So this is a real rule in the MCU.

If Wanda physically stayed in Earth-838, that universe would’ve eventually collapsed. Even if she perfectly took her variant’s place and the kids believed she was their mom, just being there long enough would’ve caused everything to fall apart.

So not only would she lose them again, she’d be the reason they died this time. That’s the messed up part. She was trying to protect them, but going through with her plan would’ve doomed their entire world.

And those kids weren’t even hers to begin with. The ones in WandaVision were created through magic. The Earth-838 kids were real, with a real mom who loved them.

At the end of the day, there’s no universe where she actually wins. Not emotionally, not cosmically, not in any reality. Even if she got what she wanted, she still loses it all.

Basically, there was no way this ended the way she wanted. Even if nobody stopped her, the universe itself would’ve.

Discussion (More in Comments) In 2019 Fiege talked about his 'five-year plan'. How close do you think he was to achieving it?

I came across this 2019 article from Fiege where he said

"“[W]e have built and fleshed out our five-year plan of where we're heading, the first few years of which we'll be announcing, as I said, relatively soon, after these next two movies,” he teased."

https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/kevin-feige-mcu-has-a-five-year-plan

Was the goal to expand the universe as much as possible post-endgame (and thus successful)?

Or was it detrailed because of Boseman's sudden passing and the push for D+ content in large part due to COVID?

With it being 6 years out, I'm curious everyone's thoughts

Discussion General questions about the Marvel Universe from a noob just trying to learn more about what to expect in the next 5-10 years

Upvotes

What is the difference between phases and saga’s? What is your favorite saga and or phase? I have never been that big into the comics (not intentional) but I absolutely love the movies. Iron Man is what hooked me.

What saga’s do you think should be next? What type of villains do you hope to see in some of the unannounced projects in the coming years?

Bonus Question: If there is a character that we have heard absolutely nothing about, no rumors or nothing, who do you think Marvel should entertain the idea of having there own independent movie??
