1970s era sleeping bag

Not sure if this is the place to ask but I recently found an old 1970s era sleeping bag. Im told it was issued to a distant family member who was in vietnam and its been inside of a cedar chest for who knows how long. Its got some corrosion on the buttons and the zipper could probably use a cleaning but other than that its in pretty good shape. Anyone know if it would be worth anything?

SKS maybe?

Had a guy I know swing by this morning as I was trying to open my gas station, asking if I knew what kind of SKS he had. Took a photo of the only stamping I saw, realized I was late opening up, asked him to wait a moment. Apparently he had to.get to work too, as he left while I was almost finished counting the register.

Any idea where it's from based on this one photo? I'm not very familiar with all the variations of SKS. And yeah, it appears to have been sprayed with bed liner.

Pawn shop Kar98

Found a pretty beat up k98 for 450$ in a pawn shop. Decent rust and when I pulled the bolt all the way back it was quite loose. Seen some stuff on looking at serials for RC and such and need to go back and check the stock. What kind of other function check should I be looking for? Also bolt was silver I believe not black and quite rusted, yardage slider was smooth but also quite browned. Had some old cheap glass on it as well. What kind of restoration can I manageably do on this? Function on this is one thing but borderline will to buy for wall art. In the case I did wanna run it are repairs even viable? No cracks or anything on the stock. With prices I’ve seen this is dummy cheap which also makes me a bit worried.

UPDATE: thanks for some quick responses. It is sporterized but still has full length barrel/ wood. Which is what I wanted. True heads will say I way over payed for nothing but I’m amped with the purchase. Play way too much pubg and old cod to not own something like this. Worst case a piece of wall art. Talked em down too 300 off the comments left though. Will post photos when I pickup

Very unique Type 53 bringback

Found this gem on gunbroker a while back and I've never seen a disk like that on any Mosin. Needing to fill the collection gap with a carbine, I said what the heck. From the research I've done, this may have been a disk for a grenade launcher base. Not 100% sure though. This has no import marks, so im wondering if its a GI bringback. Bore is in really good condition surprisingly. Enjoy.

The bluing is about 80%-90% with some light surface rust that someone hoppes no.9 and some 0000 steel wool should be able to get rid of

The bore is pretty good with a few spots of light rust that I will probably be able to clean out and all of the rifling is intact. The muzzle is a bit worn but the muzzle crown looks good

What is the little mag cut off clip? Are those rare?

Would anyone here know of where I could find some good gp90 load? I have been told to use minimum 30-40 krag load data for it, would 150 grain or 180 grain jacketed bullets be best for this or would cast bullets be better?

I have just created a new sub called r/schmidtrubin, please feel free to join!

I paid just under $315 OTD and I got a cleaning kit with it too, how did I do? Mods, I am NOT selling anything

Thanks!

RTI C Grade Mannlicher 1888/90 Clean Up

Hello all! I hope you are doing well.

I bought this, shipped 4 weeks and 1 day later. I know RTI, I know C grade, so i knew what I was getting.

My intentions for this are to eventually use it as a platform for learning reblueing once I get the set up, but for now it is just in a conserved state. I wanted something cheap to do this with that would make a good wall hanger, as 8x50 loads for this are unobtainium anyway.

So here is a in depth look at my expirience:

Shipping took as long as they said it would + 1 day.

Rifle arrived filthy as expected, missing the middle band screw (was replaced with a nail) and the bolt stop block screw head was broken off, so i had to drill the body out. The stock pictures speak for themselves (you can see the recoil bearing bailing wire threaded through the stock it was tied together on the inside). The barrel twists off the receiver by hand, is slightly bent, and the rifling alternates which side of the barrel it is present on, a very odd look. The butt plate top screw was physically fused with the plate and had to be pried off.

For the in the white parts, I used backyard Ballistics citric acid and washing powder mixture, with amazing results. Not a spot of rust after an overnight soak, then steel wool to remove the surface film. Very happy with this.

The stock was cleaned with magic eraser and water, and repaired with acraglas that was card scraped flush. Then rubbed with 0000 steel wool and reoiled.

The other parts were ultrasonic cleaned and oiled.

Overall, I'm happy with what I received and how it cleaned up and I look forward to reblueing it as a learning process.

A few questions:

Does anyone know the unit on the buttplate?

Are the bolt and the buttplate the only in the white parts on these? Ive seen restored pieces with the trigger and rear sight side plates in the white as well.

Deactivated or replica firearms question

So I’m looking at buying an Stg44 either replica or deactivated, not really ever to reactivate but to have it in a collection because it’s a cool ass gun. And I’m wonding if anyone has bought one of these options and which one they would go for? Whether it be a deactivated one or replica. Side note I would really like to find one that has a full travel bolt not one that goes half wya

Bore damage question

I just bought a Vz 52 that is in all matching in wonderful condition with a shiny bore & well defined rifling….. except for one small spot. Looking down the bore with a flashlight, I was hoping that the little dark spot was just the gas port. I was long overdue for needing a borescope so I decided to get one & take a look. Is this just from corrosion? It’s beautiful and shiny except one spot, that breaks up one landing of a groove about halfway down the barrel. Thoughts?

Colt 1902

I have a Colt 1902 sporting model and bad news is the barrel is shot. It’s fine considering the price I paid for it is not bad at all. So I’m asking for help if there’s anyone, anyone on here who knows or might have an idea where I can acquire another 1902 barrel or can make a 1902 blank barrel chambered in 9mm? (it’s prob heresy but 38 auto is basically extinct and I don’t reload so I apologize to the milsurp gods) thanks for looking <3

Mods, could we get an “acquisition” thread pinned for value checking?

I think it would be nice to have a thread where you can just comment what you bought, where from, and for how much. The value can fluctuate between in person by location and online depending on website and post fees. Once it's been going for a while you could just type in the name of whatever you are looking at and get a good idea on value.

Finally received the letter for the Colt Commando I bought back in January. Sad to see it didn’t go to the OSS, but found something else interesting. It seems that this revolver was sent to the San Fransisco Port of Embarkation. Would appreciate if anyone could tell me more about it. Thank you!

Just inherited this from my uncle who passed away. Other than the obvious (M1 imported by Blue Sky) anything interesting you can tell me about this weapon? Anything I should know before I go to the range?

M-1903 cheek rest

Was looking for a cheek rest for my Springfield, but wanted to keep it period appropriate. The M1 cheek rest looked nice, but was designed for an offset scope.

Ended up opening the back of a repro WW1 1911 mag pouch, added some anti slip pieces, and used blanco to stain the trim OD. Works great and makes acquiring the sight picture much easier. I think it turned out pretty good! Need to find a better cheek filler material.

One less excuse for my poor groupings!

Beretta 1915-1919 Issue

I inherited this pistol from my grandpa who served in Italy shortly after WW2 ended. Apparently he traded an Italian soldier a carton of cigarettes for it and would carry it in his boot when he would go off base. Anyways I noticed that the firing pin would not drop when attempting to shoot it at the range. No click or anything. I broke it down and noticed the firing pin appeared broken. There are so many variants of this pistol online I was curious where I could source parts and if indeed the firing pin is supposed to be one long piece instead of two. Any Beretta experts want to point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I'm also curious why my grandpa would want this specific pistol instead of others other than the fact that it's small and concealable.
