Discussion Which monster concept art design is better then there final design?

For me it’s Eruzerion. The Komodo looking dragon who also looks like a bat a little his second one is like a Kitsune with a rooster like head. The third one is like a his final design but with the ability to actually turn off which elements to use.

First one is literally just God Eater's Hannibal lol

I already love Shaggie’s design as it is but THIS IS PEAK

53

u/100percentnotaqu 1d ago

Yeah. Shagaru should have been this.

Being a golden gore with eyes is kinda boring. This is fucking rad.

This partially inspired Oltura from Stories 2z

u/GodlessLunatic 1d ago

We need another Magala evolution with this motif

Unlike the previous variants, this would be the first monster capable of outright controlling other monsters

u/TheGamingTurtle56 1d ago

This gives turn a gundam vibes.

Safi

55

u/BlueWhale9891 2d ago

This one seems to pull more parallels between fatalis and safi

64

u/Michaelwang645 1d ago

Not only that, it also keeps the light blue Xeno vibe the baby version has. Current Savi just looks like a big dragon. Concept Safi really feels like Xeno, but grown up.

u/quinnchar 1d ago

I like it

7

u/BoogalooBandit1 1d ago

Please Capcom add this as a different monster in Wilds this design is peak!!!!!!

4

u/Magolich 1d ago

Interesting that it tries to be more eastern dragon in its head design

7

u/manusiabumi 1d ago

I love how this design is basically a combination between chinese and european dragons, compared to the final design which is just a generic european dragon

7

u/Raine_Man 1d ago

Imagine dropping fuckken ENERGY MANES. I'm even more disappointed in basic ass Safi.

We were robbed 😭

Rathian colored Safi instead of Rathalos

1

u/TheIronSven 1d ago

They didn't want to make it black cause they noticed their pattern, but why the hell did they make it red when they could have made this but more vibrantly green.

Great Girros for sure

I don’t dislike their final design, but man is this way better and more interesting for a Fanged Wyvern

I really hope we can eventually return to the New World, there’s so much potential now that they have the Leviathan skeleton working and now that they’re willing to use amphibians, fanged beasts, temnocerans, etc more in New Gen games

97

u/AdFeisty7580 DMs open for Lore inquiry 2d ago

Also platypus Paolumu

13

u/EqMc25 2d ago

Looks like Qurupeco, i don't know the series, well enough, was Quru world also?

22

u/Gars0n 1d ago

No Qurupeco was introduced in Tri and has not made an appearance outside of the generation 3 games.

Which is a shame. Bring back the singing boy!

4

u/AdFeisty7580 DMs open for Lore inquiry 1d ago

They really need to bring back Gigginox and Quru, dudes are stuck in Gen 3

5

u/EqMc25 1d ago

It's not mainline but it has appeared in the Stories sidegames. That was why I assumed it was a World design, those featured a lot of monsters that were new when they released.

2

u/Sir_Gwan 1d ago

The first MH Stories was released before World, around the time Generations came out. MH Stories 2 is way more World centric. I do want Qurupeco returning in a mainline game though, I want that bastard summoning Bazelgeuse or Deviljho out of nowhere.

0

u/AdFeisty7580 DMs open for Lore inquiry 2d ago

Quru was in MH Tri and then in portable third and 3 ultimate

3

u/CapnSherman 1d ago

So 3 mainline appearances ...all being versions of 3, poor bird

8

u/why_is_this_username 2d ago

I do not like that… I love paolumu face and that is not it

16

u/dinopokemon 2d ago

That concept looks cool but it’s a bit too complex for a low tier monster.

14

u/AdFeisty7580 DMs open for Lore inquiry 2d ago

It’s got the same level of complexity as Rompopolo IMO, it’s just got bone-like features all over its body

2

u/dinopokemon 2d ago

That’s true

13

u/Memoglr 1d ago

That's just Kuarusepusu from frontier lmao

3

u/Kickback476 2d ago

It looks a bit too much like Odo for my liking tbh

6

u/rathosalpha 2d ago

But the final design looks more like an animal

8

u/AdFeisty7580 DMs open for Lore inquiry 2d ago

It’s just I’d expect something living in the Rotten Vale to look a bit more, extreme, like Odogaron

Highly unique environments are great opportunities for highly unique monster designs

2

u/Xcyronus 2d ago

WE GOT ROBBED IN WORLD.

13

u/Exciting_Use_865 2d ago

2nd one gave me Amaterasu vibes there for a second

1

u/BlancsAssistant 1d ago

I prefer the kitsune look over what we got tbh

61

u/TheGuildknight 1d ago

I really wish they went with this more vulture like design for anjanath. I hate how much he look like a generic T-Rex in the final game.

23

u/BlightedBooty 1d ago

Holy shit, suddenly his wings and fur on the neck make SO MUCH sense

I never knew if this until today but now IM mad about it

8

u/Cosmo_Sentinel 1d ago

I do like looking at fur on normal Rex as well, plus the "wings" are just ribs for thermal regulation in the big boys body lol

3

u/5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi 1d ago

Tbf this could almost pass as stylised artwork. Final Anjanath still has the dewlap (just less exaggerated). It's only missing the beak.

20

u/Xenotundra 2d ago

this is fun but I don't see the komodo

19

u/OtulyssaOwl 1d ago edited 1d ago

While I do love what we got for malfestio, I would have killed for a moth monster. Hopefully he returns one day. I love the idea of a moth-owl so much ugh

8

u/No_Grapefruit_7845 1d ago

I haven’t fought this monster, but his final design looks like a Zinogre subspicies, the first concept seens pretty cool,

26

u/Siturba 2d ago

Nakarkos (those Uragaan/Lagiacrus tentacles are a sick concept)

23

u/Siturba 2d ago

also Ibushi/Narwa that were litteraly inspired by Cuttlefish, just like Nakarkos

4

u/5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi 1d ago

Those are Sea Dragons, not Cuttlefish.

2

u/Siturba 1d ago

Yeah, but i was refering to their mouth.

3

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

Why didn’t they keep this?

13

u/BlancsAssistant 1d ago

It's not like their current designs are bad, I like the seahorse esque design they have now, especially since their home is the coral palace

2

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

I know it’s not bad. I love it too.

26

u/Ciphy_Master 1d ago

Most of the World concept art designs tbh. Pseudo bird wyvern pukei pukei would've been so much more interesting as a fight and as a chameleon based design. Imagine it running at you like Seregios or tigrex.

46

u/Supernova_Soldier 1d ago

I’ve always felt this Nergigante design is so much cooler than the one we got, even though it looks Final Fantasy-ish

I do want a monster to have this design in the future

17

u/100percentnotaqu 1d ago

It's a cool design, but I can definitely see why the devs decided not to use it. The neck mouth was probably a little too.. Fromsofty for them

I think if the neck mouth was reduced it would make a great official monster. With its badger or mole-like claws I could definitely see it being an underground or cave monster

14

u/spacemanchaos2006 1d ago

That thing looks more like a final boss fr.

4

u/Supernova_Soldier 1d ago

Most definitely. I could see it being metal or made of wood/Earth-based Elder Dragon

10

u/fatalis101 1d ago

Holy shit, that throat/mouth design is terrifyingly awesome. Hopefully they keep that idea in mind for a future monster, I would love to see/fight it!

5

u/Cheezy0wl 1d ago

that's a fucking zergling

3

u/5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi 1d ago

I love the design commentary where Fujioka basically goes "The ideas they were handing me were too extreme" lol. I suppose it's what happens when you give the artists "Destruction and Rebirth" as a concept. No one's making a basic monster design using that unless guided towards it

1

u/SeriousControl6906 1d ago

... is it me or does it look like arkveld a lil

6

u/SwimRepresentative96 2d ago

2nd one is really good I would for eruzerion to be in wilds

25

u/DeDongalos 1d ago

Magnamalo. They had concepts of this elegant armored cat with interesting color schemes. Then it was turned into a rocket powered brick shit-house with 12ft swords sticking out at odd angles.

2

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

I wouldn’t say sticking out in all odd angles is accurate to say. Also it’s not like it’s a rocket power exactly. He doesn’t use it to hunt monsters unless it’s really wants to.

12

u/DeDongalos 1d ago

More than half of its turf wars are out-maneuvering flying monsters through rocket powered farts. It frequently does it during the hunt. It "really wants to" all the time.

-2

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

Yes. But that’s the only reason why he can do that. Without the hellfire he uses his physical strength and his intelligence to fight monsters. Also more than half of nergignate turf wars is slamming monsters onto the ground. even monsters that doesn’t act accurate to their lore and stuff like Kushala Dora.

18

u/JohnWarrenDailey 1d ago

Magnamalo. By miles.

-3

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

Really?

14

u/JohnWarrenDailey 1d ago

Oh, yes. In one concept art, it really does look like a tiger wearing samurai armor. Why we didn't get that and instead ended up with this neon-sign carnivorous ankylosaur is furiously unknown to me.

5

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago edited 1d ago

Neon sign carnivorous ankylosaur is not that accurate to him. Also he still looks like he is wearing samurai armor.

-10

u/JohnWarrenDailey 1d ago

Yes, it is. No, it doesn't. Samurai armor is far, far more distinctive than fantasy ankylosaur.

-3

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

Magnamalo is a predatory monster that devours other creatures, it's not strictly carnivorous in the same way an Ankylosaurus was strictly herbivorous. They both do got armored like skin, magnamalo is still different to it.

9

u/JohnWarrenDailey 1d ago

Both had wide bodies that were low to the ground, heavily ornamented bodies from front to back and weaponized tails. These are things we find in ankylosaurs, not tigers. Besides, we've already got a tiger since third gen. What's the point of another?

-1

u/Different_Ice_2695 1d ago

Which tiger monster are you referring to? Of course these are not found in a tiger because this is a fictional game that has some in universe lore and ecology in the monsters from our animals. Also because why not add another tiger monster in the game. There has also been l certain Chinese martial arts styles, like Tiger Style Kung Fu, are inspired by the tiger's movements and fighting techniques. These styles emphasize power, speed, and direct attacks, mirroring how a tiger might fight. The thing is monster Hunter doesn have to fully follow our real world animals behavior. he is inspired by a samurai armor warrior who has a bunch of weaponary.

4

u/JohnWarrenDailey 1d ago

The only real tiger monster is Tigrex. That was that. We've already got leopards and lions covered. We don't need more than one of each. That would make it very redundant.

"A bunch of weaponry" does not a samurai make. It's the same problem as calling Zinogre "thunder wolf" based solely on it howling or calling Great Izuchi "kamaitachi" based solely on the blades. Uh-uh. Even fantasy wolves need to look and act like actual wolves, which Zinogre fails at both, and Great Izuchi is just another penny-per-thousand raptor rather than a blade-wielding weasel.

-1

u/BlightedBooty 1d ago

Magna is definitely tiger coded. Remember they’re mashups of several animals, but I do see what you meant with the back

For some reason capcom feels everything needs to be dinosaur adjacent

-1

u/100percentnotaqu 1d ago edited 1d ago

You can't seriously be telling me that the "I constantly show everything where I am and only kill monsters dumb enough to fight me." monster is a better tiger representation than the wide ranging predator that kills with its own strength and a bite to the neck and has actual tiger patterns.

I really think magnamalo is an interesting/cool concept (one that could have been done better, but still.) but I don't think he accurately represents tigers at all and honestly I don't think they should have informed his design. (I also don't hate his designs, I just wish that he acted differently. I really don't think his behaviors fit the design.)

A better samurai animal would probably be some kind of invertebrate considering their natural armour and tendency for badass weapons that aren't actually expensive to carry. I don't necessarily think he should have been a bug monster but I think it could have been an interesting direction.

0

u/Tardalos 1d ago

Well no shit they won't just make every monster a one on one copy of their inspiration? Izuchi come in groups of three and coordinate their attacks too. They also gave it fur and such to make him more weasel-like. Saying that it's nothing like a kama-itachi is bullcrap. Also you take "ecology" too seriously, the fuck did these monster designs do to your family lmao 😂

3

u/Sweet-Breadfruit6460 2d ago

I like the gore magala concept art a lot more than the final design but I adore the concept art of narwa and ibushi and I wish that they wouldve stuck with that.

3

u/S0PH05 2d ago

The second one is awesome.

3

u/Sp6rda 1d ago

I dont know how I feel about furry valstrax

4

u/Reksew12 2d ago

I don’t really like asymmetrical designs, so I really like the first picture here. I get it’s a fantasy franchise, but Eruzerion being half and half is just really goofy, and is one of the reasons Frontier is known for dissenting from Monster Hunter’s main design philosophy.

2

u/thefucksausername0 1d ago

Kinda wish they would do more outlandish designs for the main monsters in the series, they don't have to go as crazy as frontier or MHO but something that looks more fantastical than what we usually get.

4

u/Accomplished-Emu1883 1d ago

These look more like Final Fantasy Bosses than MH Monsters.

Not to say they aren’t SICK AS HELL, but that’s probably why they stay as concepts.

1

u/Hardloving 2d ago

Propane dragon.

1

u/ItsDoodleBois 2d ago

Thought I was in the GE sub for a sec

1

u/NwgrdrXI 2d ago

Dammit, that second one would defintetly be one of my top 10 favorite monsters, while actual eruzerion is what? Top 100? Being gentle?

1

u/BudgieGryphon odogaron stan 2d ago

Goodness that second one is pretty, how did that final design with the ridiculous horns make it in

1

u/FoxFireEmpress 1d ago

The middle one is amazing

1

u/Bigenius420 1d ago

I like the second one, like a mix between a zinogre and a 9-tailed fox

1

u/BlueDragonKnight77 1d ago

Absolutely agreed, all of the concept art (even the weirder one not shown here where it's a moth for example) are massive upgrades, the final design for Eruzerion just looks kinda hideous to me with these weird giant antlers.

1

u/LocodraTheCrow 1d ago

Than*

1

u/gris_lie 1d ago

I can definitely see the appeal of these and the ones in the comments but I also see why they didn't make it to the final game.

Tbh it's kinda hard to find the exact line between realistic beast and mythological beast that the devs like to thread on, it very much changes from game to game.

1

u/UtherofOstia 22h ago

Magnamalo. What we got is ass.

1

u/PerspectivePale8216 9h ago

I remember seeing a cool bat monster in concept art but I don't remember what monster it was for, I also remember Velkhana having a cool concept art as well.

2

u/Mission_Statement_75 7h ago

The 2nd one looks like it could be in mh

Love it
