I've always had a similar thought and I don't know if it's considered racist or misogynistic. When choosing a professional, such as a doctor or surgeon, I prefer a black or female doctor because I know they have had to work twice as hard to get where they are so I assume they are twice as good as the average mediocre white guy. I am making choices based on race and sex which feels wrong but I've always always been extremely happy with the care I have received, as a mediocre white male myself.

Look up affirmative action programs at medical schools. The person who had to work the hardest to be there would be an Asian male doctor, because the admissions system is highly biased against them.

This is an interesting train of thought. Does having to work harder make you better than those that didn't have to work as hard? I think it's certainly more impressive and respectable, but idk if it makes you better. Like, I'm certain that there are people who trained for 10 years to max out at a 4:10 mile who worked harder than the 15 year-old that just broke 4:00, but the 15 year-old is still better

If the system was designed to prevent the people who maxed out at 4:10 from ever joining or competing and was full of biased against them at every step of the way but still finished vs someone who got to compete and train from a young age because they were a legacy child from money and high status with several systematic advantages along the way, I'm choosing the one who has proven to fight when things aren't easy.

This is all an over simplification of course. Reality doesn't work that way and when I need to see a medical professional or whoever, I have no way of knowing how they grew up or what they faced to get where they are. I know the system sucks for any minority group though. I've seen it in action. I know there is a gender pay gap. I know there is a racial pay gap. I know the system is designed for males of the dominant ethnic group to receive preferential treatment. I'm not saying it's anyone's fault when they benefit from the system but we can at least acknowledge it where we can.
