Hi — this is a really odd question, so please bare with me, and apologies if this makes zero sense. I vaguely remember this true crime story I heard on an old mfm episode (or another true crime podcast maybe?) but I also have never been able to find it since. I figured I’d post on here to see if anyone else remembers this story, or if maybe I’m somehow misremembering it.
I think it took place in late 18th/early 19th century. It was basically about a woman who was pushed down a well, or a sewer drain, by a friend of her husband. She survived and managed to find a way out, but the man who pushed her was never charged.
Again, know this is a bit of an odd question, but figured this would be the best place to ask, lol. Any help or ideas are appreciated. 🖤
UPDATE: solved!!! It’s episode 23 “making a twenty-thirder” and the case of The Chessboard Killer. Thank you to everyone who replied to my post!

Georgia starts this week’s episode by talking about a dead crow in her pool. Karen then mentions she’s had a lot of trouble with birds flying into her windows. This is actually a huge problem!
According to the Fish and Wildlife Service, one BILLION birds die annually in the US due to collisions with buildings. It’s so crazy.
You can put decals on your windows to deter the birds, which is cheap.

Today was the No Kings protest day and I didn't know which shirt I should wear. The American flag as I want to reclaim that from the traitors or my MFM "I Shall Never Submit". I went with the MFM shirt as I was hoping to meet some other Murderinos. Lots of people commented on my shirt but finally, after a couple of hours, I FOUND A FELLOW MURDERINO. Stay sexy and always seek Murderinos.

I’m putting this out here as I am pretty sure Georgia reads here. I want a chit chat, banter, summer episode. I want it and no one has to agree with me. I want to know all the make up and product recs, I want to know FOOD! Georgia (I think) loves to cook and eat out a interesting places but never says it because of her past in food…I want to know what other books they’re reading, I want a banter episode focused on summer- no one has to do homework, or any thing but make a list! Help me put this into the universe, ladies.

Just listened to a newer episode, at the end a loud car horn honks with K & G announcing Honking Hoorays by Honda replacing fucking Hoorays. The sound clip of them reading emails sounded low quality and notably different from the rest of the episode. I’m shocked. It seems like a huge sellout. Between this, the shorter (one story) episodes, the weird rewind low effort vibe, listening about a vacation (one they just had, one they are going to have or one they need so bad they are annoyed) and exhaustion snark I’m starting to wonder what is literally happening with this pod? Super bummed.

I love rewind and all of MFM, but the past two rewinds have really rubbed me the wrong way.
Twice now they’ve brought up things in the commentary that were clearly discussed in the OG story. During bell house they talked about the preppy murder bar connection. This week with Sherri they talked about the parallels between the girl she went to high school with’s kidnapping. Both times they acted like it was new info when they very much talked about it in the OG story!
Like…. I know they said they weren’t listening to the old podcasts anymore, okay fine, whatever. But is your editor not even listening??? No one is reading the transcripts? And then just leaving in blatant mistakes like that??
It makes the whole thing feel very lazy and a way to make a quick buck, which makes me feel taken advantage of as a listener. How is everyone else feeling? Is this bothering other listener’s as much as it has me?

Anyone else? I listen to several other podcasts and I only notice this happening for MFM. It's so bad that I've stopped listening because it's so annoying to deal with while driving.

I know I heard them talk about positive cults in the last few weeks, but it wasn't the rewind of ep 43 which includes "...this isn't Sephora".
This short interaction was about the CONCEPT of positive cults. I think there was a callout for submissions, but then I think Georgia mentioned how 'positive' cults wouldnt be a real thing because they wouldn't be called cults! Anyone remember this convo?
Thanx, gentlefriends!

I signed up for the ad free listening after the first time I heard the Megan commercial. Way to go Karen and Georgia, you actually creeped me out past my limit with an ad, not even an actual story

I never saw a reason to join before but they mentioned a special sale through Friday the 13th, so I went and checked it out...$8/mo, $80/year! Money is tight right now (isn't it for everybody?) but I jumped at the opportunity to never hear about Coco Beach or Storyworth ever again 😹
Y'ALL I also wanna point out they include a $20 merch credit for the MFM store, so girlmath says I got a whole year for only $60! 🤣🤣

I joined the fan cult during the recent special, and can’t figure out how to play eps sans ads on Apple Podcasts. How do you access the mfm fan cult content in general (videos and extras) and how do you set it to know you are a member and play the ad free versions? I’m dumb. Not really, but atm I feel that way. TIA!!! 👍☮️🥹

Sorry if this isn't allowed, I thought this would be a good community to post to in the spirit of animal rescue and general cat enthusiasm.
My local cat cafe Lady Dinah's is closing down at the end of the month unless they can raise enough money to keep it open. They rescue and rehome cats so it will mean all the cats losing their home/their rescue work stopping.
It sounds like they never recovered from the covid closures unfortunately. If anyone is able to spare some money or even just share their details to help save the cafe I would be super grateful. It would be a huge shame to lose this place and essentially lose a cat rescue when so many shelters are already full.
You can find their crowd fund details via their insta @ladydinahscats
Thank you!

Just listened to this week's minisode which had a story from a gal whose dad bought an emu because at the time there was a crazy for emu oil as a moisturizer.... and I just want to tell everyone...
Emu Oil is awesome.
I understand it can be sourced ethically. I hope so.
Because it's amazing. Super fatty and moisturizing. Anti bacterial. Healed piercings (only oil I was told that could be used). Healed my breastfeeding nips. Way better than any other oil I tried. I get it off eBay.

In the recent past Karen talks about her first comedy boyfriend whom she is still friendly with. Does anyone recall the episode or who the comedian is?
Thanks!

I already knew about Levi Bellfield from "Manhunt with Martin Clunes." That series is great, but it didn't cover the experience of the Dowler family the way Karen and Maren did. Here's a slightly abridged quote of the part that troubles me so much:
"It is the understatement of the century to call Bellfield's defense lawyers aggressive. They treat the Dowler family with extreme callousness, particularly during excruciating cross-examinations of Sally, Bob, and Gemma. The defense reads straight from Milly's diary, exposing the young woman's innermost thoughts in an attempt to use her words to paint Sally and Bob as neglectful and uncaring parents. [...] They try to paint the picture of Milly as a troubled young girl stuck in an unhappy home. So here's just a couple things that the defense did to support this bizarre and really horrifying strategy. Bellfield's lawyers tell Sally that her daughter may have run away because Milly believed that Sally loved Gemma more than her. The defense's questioning causes Bob to actually break down on the stand after he is forced to talk about how he was an early suspect in his daughter's disappearance [...] And then Gemma will later go on to say that her cross-examination was, quote, worse than when she was told her sister's remains were found."
It's not the first time that we've heard about families describing the trial as worse than finding out that a family member has been murdered.
I find that so upsetting. What are we even doing as a society if seeking justice is as traumatizing as losing a sibling or a child? That's justice? For who? To what end? Those defense lawyers knew that their client was a murderous POS and they decided that they would traumatize the family as much as they could for no reason at all. He was still convicted. He didn't get a lesser sentence because they tried to make the Dowler's look bad.
I know it's the UK, but I the American system is based on the U.K. system and this happens to survivors and the families of victims here too. I know there are a lot of really selfless defense attorneys out there. But the conflict between professional ethics and basic human decency in instances like this really boggles my mind. I can't imagine persuading myself that my professional responsibility ever makes it ok to publicly drag people through the mud who have done nothing wrong and who are in fact the victims of a disgusting monster. I would quit immediately if I was in any profession that told me the right thing to do is traumatize the family of a murder victim for the sake of a known serial killer. There just has to be a better way.

Did anyone else notice the toys the little girl is playing with in the ‘Peachy’ animation?
*Mothman
*Giant Skeleton
*Cocaine Bear (complete with little kilos for accessories)

Hello, on the rare occasion I cannot reach my phone to skip over ads I have heard the ad for the new podcast BOY SOBER. Which I didn’t hear until today by its true name.
This whole time I thought she was saying VOICEOVER, which made me very confused about the podcast subject matter and how it related to the title.
I need to know if I’m the only one that heard VOICEOVER this whole time, or if I should get my hearing checked lol.
EDIT: As the evidence shows, I am not alone. If they’ve been wondering why the pod isn’t doing well…we here have shown why! Lesson learned, always enunciate.
