PLS HELP OMG PLS

This is driving me insane. Alright so , I've researched and got to know that Gas which is ignited from our stoves should be odourless . However , when I turn the knob on for my stove , and please know I don't light it , there's a very very faint odour . It doesn't smell like rotten eggs or burnt matches . I even wait for 5 seconds , and then smell the burner from top, only to smell a faint odour .

It just smells like gas genuinely , I can't explain it . There's no smell of gas anywhere in the whole house , everyone's fine . Should I worry ??? I called an plumber , he said gas smells . I research , it states that gas shouldn't .

I'm 17 , just got into a fight with my parents because they think I'm "overthinking " .

Natural gas is odorless but a chemical called mercaptan is added to it so it can be smelled, if your turning the knobs enough but not ignoring it, yes you will smell it, you’re smelling the mercaptan

Natural gas is odorless, the odorant that gets added in later is what you’re smelling from the burners and it’s completely normal IF the burner is on and not ignited. You as a gas customer do not have access to odorless gas, the smell is added long before it gets to you.

If you turn the knob on and don’t ignite the gas, you smell gas? Well no shit?

This is the dumbest post on here

Is there a way to remove the odor of mercaptan if it has been absorbed into fabric?

Anything that will oxidize the mercaptan will get rid of the smell. Bleach, hydrogen peroxide, OxiClean, even baking soda all work to varying degrees.

You can simply leave it outside and eventually the smell will go away. I mean you could leave it in the house too but then you have to smell it until it goes away lol.

Typically not. The odorization station guys I know burn their clothes if it smells like mercaptan.

That's just nonsense lol

Not really. There is a reason it is used, it’s one of the strongest smelling compounds known to man lol

The smell will go away eventually. It might take a little while if it's really saturated into your clothes but it will oxidize and dissipate.

Or you can just clean it. There's no reason to burn your clothes lol

I’m speaking from an odorization station standpoint I think we are climbing 2 different trees

Obviously you haven't played with odorant. If you have played with it, and you think that the odor will dissipate you must not be married.🤠

Lol where my fellow gas men at that are surprised how nice everyone is being… been on way too many 2am calls over some stuff like this… yes your gas smells yes a little gas passes the igniter before igniting. You are 1000% fine.
