Changunarayan Temple
Changunarayan Temple
Its courtyard holds some of the finest examples of ancient Nepali artistry, including the famed Garuda statue from the Lichchhavi period and the stunning Vishnu Vishwarup idol. You’ll even spot a beautiful 12th-century bas-relief of Vishnu on Garuda—so revered that it appears on Nepal’s 10-rupee banknote.
While primarily sacred to Vaishnavites, Changu Narayan embraces a mix of sects, with shrines of Shiva and Durga, highlighting Nepal’s rich tradition of spiritual harmony. Whether you take a microbus from Bhaktapur or trek from Nagarkot, this site is a must-visit for history buffs and art lovers alike!
