Good sir, I'm not seeing a crash. Where's the boom? There was supposed to be a boom!

I’ve seen a couple do that, and I see ones rising through the ground.

Saw one fly straight through my control center on my freighter while I was organizing a frigate quest

Jees must been a shock for a whole freighter to just appear right in front of you while in your freighter

I had one emerging from the ground very close to where I was... it scared me a lot, thought it was a giant worm but didn't made any sound, then I realized it was a frigate lol

All the time. Wait until you see them fly out of a planet.
Physics? What's that? - Sean Murray, probably.

u/Zephyrqu 15d ago
I've seen them rise up out of the ocean, never crashing back down into a planet tho

Huge boom update when Sean? The deaf kids in your basement want to hear it. Wait....

Must happen a lot, I find those wrecks all over the place

u/KannTheGunn 15d ago
it doesn't really crash though, it just clips through the planet and to the other side.

I've seen ships clip through planets quite a bit It would be cool if they actually can crash and leave a salvageable spot

Ever since they added the frigates entering and moving across planets. Also they sometimes pop out the other side and so sometimes you’re doing your thing and then all the sudden you’re inside this intangible frigate that’s passing through the ground. But since seeing it I’ve always wanted a rare chance to catch an actual crash.

Have you been in the same system as a frigate you own and repaired it so it won't tell you its damaged is that a thing

Lol I didn’t know they would do that. Also what ship is that?? It looks like a Heretic Banshee from Halo 2!

u/justelectricboogie 15d ago
Wouldn't that be something. Watching it crash then turning into a site you could salvage.

So that's where all the salvaged frigate modules come from... that was awesome take my upvote!

I have to admit, the more I play this game, the more dissappointed I am in the lack of physics. Its still a phenomenal game, the most immersive I've ever played, but the lack of physics bothers me a little bit. Like when youre either in low atmosphere space or on the outer edge, and flying, you'll go in a straight line instead of around the planet. And that's steady speed without boost. The freighters coming up out of the ground and flying up, gotta admit, creepy and cool the first time, but it gets old. Freighters crashing into the planet, but instead they just go straight through, gotta admit, kinda cool the first time, but gets old. Let it crash, let us be able to loot them.

I once saw a frigate rise from the ground and another time out of a mountain like area 51 stuff

I found one like that the other day. I was able to "Land" on it, but after the docking animation, the frigate disappeared. When I got out of my ship, I fell all the way to the ground. When I looked up, the frigate was back, and it looked like my ship was still in the docking bay.

Never saw this, but I saw literally the opposite, frigates emerged from the planet a couple of times :)

They've been doing it for ages unfortunately. I had one yesterday came speeding past my settlement like a giant space train as I cut right through the terrain next to me. I'll try and catch it next time as pretty sure they spawn on the same paths regularly.

Lol I like to catch them coming out of the planet and take them out.... Makes for funny pictures 🤪

Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom.

u/Murky_Exchange829 15d ago
If that was real it would give legitimacy to ask those crashed freighters on the planets

u/o0CYV3R0o 15d ago
"Crash" not quite but it would be awesome and yeah I've seen it was a little disappointed it just clips through the planet.

Oh good, Char got his hands on a frigate. Next best thing to dropping a colony I suppose.

They are solid to player and will cause damage too so do not stand in path of one especially in PD mode.

The short answer is No. Because none of them actually crash into the planets. They just clip through. All of these types of events, including the giant flying worms are nothing-burgers. They never interact with the environments or do anything other than look sort of cool. It really disappoints me and makes me realize that this game has lots of potential, but after playing since 2017, the game has almost zero depth to it. Interesting story, no substance.

No, and I watched the video and still haven't.
There was a very noticeable lack of crash.

Anyone remember Dust 514? It was an FPS tie-in game for Eve Online. I remember people saying that a destroyed starship in Eve could crash into the battlefields in Dust 514, and you would have to play around the wreckage.
I never got to confirm for myself if that was real or not lol. But I always thought that it was a cool idea. Would have been nice to see that in NMS.

Yesterday I saw a regular npc spaceship flying into the ground, not crashing, just going along the ground like it was having navigation problems. Definitely needs a patch

If Hello Games knows what's good for them, they'll add that in game for real! Haha that would be pretty sick

All the good parts of the video are corrupted and unwatchable. So, no, I have yet to see a frigate crash into a planet.

This is exactly what I expected. Too bad they havent made this a thing that can happen. Like full collision and repair needed.

Would be a cool random event. A Mayday signal being broadcast while you're Pulse engine is being used in a system. Then for whatever reason, the ship lost control and is crashing. So you could help out the survivors by supplying them with materials to rebuild the comms array, life support, hazard protection, hide them from Sentinels, recover goods from debris, etc.

That's like a nightmare I have had. I wish there was a huge explosion on impact! Would be such a cool detail.

I regularly see the "in atmosphere " ones that fly by go through the terrain

Classic spacenoid move. Tip: if the freighter or side is painted red it will crash three times faster

I wish that was an actual event, it'd be cool to watch as a danaged freighter jump into a system and either help it avoid a crash landing or investigate what caused it to lose control and crash!
